He rules explicitly through fear and makes sure that threats to him and his power aren't just defeated, but that they die in the most brutal and savage ways he and his men can devise.
@@krishan8735 Doesn't make much sense for him to order Elia's murder. Her connection to the Targaryen regime was through marriage, not blood, she wouldn't be able to contest Robert for the throne. Her children were dangers to Roberts crown and it made sense why Tywin disposed of them. But Elia's death just caused a needless blood feud between the Lannisters and Martells. The situation with the Reynes and Tarbecks was different. They were bannerman to the Lannisters and they had initially rebelled against their Leige Lord. Tywin had put them down and would of faced no repercussions for his decision. Additionally, all the reynes were in the Westerlands and he destroyed them all in their seat of power, Castamere. The Martells are a house (on paper) on par with House Lannister (being direct vassals of the King). He also had no plans to kill the other Martells and displace them of their position and I very much doubt he could. So killing Elia Martell would of only made the other Martells pissed whilst gaining nothing from it. What likely happened was that Tywin ordered the death of the kids and did not directly tell Gregor Clegane to not kill Elia. In Gregors insane lust for murder he killed her as well.
@@amanimckenzie32 you make a good point about Elia not being to the Targereyn's anymore, but I still think he'd ordered the murder of Elia. And the reason is, just look at the red wedding. He specifically made a point of going after Catelyn, and in the show, Robs wife. And again, I'd just site Tysha. His brutality and fear mongering is specifically to make a point. To intimate and to terrify people into obeying the lannisters. This goes all the way back to his childhood, with his father. Tytos was a man nobody respected. People laughed to his face, and blatantly took advantage of him, and humiliated him left right and centre. And the thing Tywin hated most, is when Tytos married a common woman. He saw this as such shame upon the name of Lannisters, and so to make up for this, when his father died, he had the woman stripped, beaten and walked naked out on the streets to show the world how beneath the Lannisters she was. This is how Tywin is, he rules specifically through brutality and fear because deep down, he's deeply insecure, and massively wants the world to see him and his family as undeniably above them. Hence why he is SO brutal, killing the Raynes even after they surrendered (and writes a song about this to inspire more fear, no less), having his men raid and rape in the riverlands during the war of the 5 kings, the red wedding, Tysha, etc. And hell, it's telling that he tries to ensure that Oberyn in the dark about Elia, but makes barely effort at all with regards to anyone else. Do you really think it'd be hard for him to stop the rumors from spreading in the first place?
@@krishan8735 If I recall correctly he said to Tyrion he ordered the children's deaths but not hers. I think Joanna was also close friends with the Martells so Tywin had no reason to basically get them as enemies because of the Mountain.

An extremely interesting exchange between these two characters and great actors! Tywin got what he had coming although his character did show threads of some decent humanity(the Arya exchanges). Oberyn's death was needless and unlikeable. The Mountain with all his power and girth was no match for Oberyn in combat.Oberyn was killed because his overwhelming passion consumed his reasoning at an essential moment
In my personal headcanon Tywin wanted them alive to present to Robert Knowing Robert in his temper would kill them himself, putting over a strong case to have him removed from power as soon as he has an heir with Cercei, allowing Tywin to rule again as hand of the king The mountain going against his orders would be a greater shame to Tywin than having people think of him as a butcher
The claim from Book Tywin to Tyrion is that he ordered the children’s deaths to show commitment to Robert but not Elia’s. That Amery Lorch & the Mountain got too enthused basically This could be a lie but is worth mentioning
Hot take: if we're ever going to remake Princess Bride, we need to do it *tomorrow* before Pedro Pascal stops naturally being the person that Mandy Patinkin was pretending to be.
The inflection at the end of catagorically changes the meaning. Its no longer 'definitly with out catagories"' and becomes "with some catagories reserved".

Well she married the chupacabra in an arranged marriage, but that's westeros for you.
Got never recovered after his death.
I literally stopped watching after his death. He was the only thing keeping me watching the show with the dragons if I'm being honest
My god, none of us knew at the time just how huge this man’s career was gonna blow up.
The way he blinked twice when he said *Categorically* means that he lies, he ordered it all.
He didn’t though not on her but he did on her kids
@@randycrawford1132 nah. Tywin is a man obsessed with brutality and fear, just look at how he treated the Raynes, and Tysha, and how he has his men do the exact same shit in the riverlands during the war of the 5 kings.
@@krishan8735
If I recall correctly he said to Tyrion he ordered the children's deaths but not hers.
I think Joanna was also close friends with the Martells so Tywin had no reason to basically get them as enemies because of the Mountain.
Tywin needed to show his new King his allegiance. Wouldn't the alive Elia and her young children be a better offering than dead? Robert could choose what he wanted to deal with them. Tywin knew this too.
I believe the mountain acted out of order.
Yes and no. Tywin likely ordered the kids killed but Elia to be spared. Then the Mountain went full Mountain.
Tywin came to question Oberyn but it went the other way round😂
It truly felt like two brilliant men in a full blown contest of wits
Pedro Pascal is damn good
The ice cold delivery of that straight faced single worded lie was perfect.
Tywin Lannister was played so well i cant think of anyone else to play it....
If the Princess Bride was ever remade, Pedro Pascal would be perfect as Inigo Montoya.
Did you watch the Zoom version w/ multiple actors doing short scenes from their own homes during the pandemic lockdown? 😅
Never has anyone said "categorically' with such grace
I like how Oberyn turned the interrogation to Tywin
God's, the writing was strong then!!
In my personal headcanon Tywin wanted them alive to present to Robert
Knowing Robert in his temper would kill them himself, putting over a strong case to have him removed from power as soon as he has an heir with Cercei, allowing Tywin to rule again as hand of the king
The mountain going against his orders would be a greater shame to Tywin than having people think of him as a butcher
No he order The Mountain and another guy to kill the kids but The Mountain decided to kill her and rape her
The claim from Book Tywin to Tyrion is that he ordered the children’s deaths to show commitment to Robert but not Elia’s. That Amery Lorch & the Mountain got too enthused basically
This could be a lie but is worth mentioning
2 of the best actors in the show
Pedro just plays cool characters.
I mean Oberyn helped capture Pablo Escobar
Hot take: if we're ever going to remake Princess Bride, we need to do it *tomorrow* before Pedro Pascal stops naturally being the person that Mandy Patinkin was pretending to be.
For now, watch the version done over Zoom by multiple actors in their own homes during the pandemic lockdown. 😅
The way he categorically says "categorically". Every scene with Twyin was a masterpiece.
And the legend of Pascal was born with this role... he had many small ones before this but his star was set ablaze after Oberyn.
The inflection at the end of catagorically changes the meaning. Its no longer 'definitly with out catagories"' and becomes "with some catagories reserved".
Thank you. Most likely he absolutely ordered the death of the kids but failed to specify not to kill Elia.
Thus he never ordered her death but her death did come about as the result of his order.
this is what we've been missing out in 2022, 2 amazing actors exchanging words, some camera works and a room setup with certain themes.
now all we got is diversity, 9 years old dialogues, cameraman doesn't know what they're doing, and u don't even know where they at because even tho they did traveled far, but the location all looks the same.
What does diversity mean
Gos this guy is a BADASS! He radiates a dangerous calm a causally lethal energy
brilliant scene
Pedro Pascals best Role to this day
Tywin never said he didnt
He denied it categorically tho
