Never picked a lock in my life. Prretty sure I could get this pile of manure open in less than 30 seconds using something I found lying around in my kitchen.
I actually managed to get a local tool store to get rid of all their Masterlock branded locks after I showed a couple of LPL videos to the manager of the store attached to their head office. They were selling a couple of Masterlocks identical to models in the videos and were shocked that they could be opened with just a shim, rake or comb attack.
I wonder if this could be forced upon them. If stores/chains could be legally compelled to remove crap products or be held responsible for knowingly selling physical security products that have glaring vulnerabilities that have existed for many decades. Basically, serve them with a cease and desist order. Or maybe serve Master Lock with the cease and desist order.
That sounds like it would be a good April Fool's Day video. Some clever editing could make that work, and he has a history of doing funny/ inuendo filled April Fool's Day videos.
The back of the single pin working so fast was so amusing to LPL that he let out a small chuckle like a little kid. Proof, if nothing else, that this lock is so bad it actually made him laugh.
I'd love to see LPL speedrun opening a bucket of masterlock locks. Could even make a charity event out of it with people pledging a certain amount per lock he picks in a given time frame lmao
My high school provided us with MasterLock combination locks for our lockers. They also provided us a stern warning against losing or failing to remember our combinations because of yadda yadda yadda. You could just run your belt through the shackle and pull down, opened every time.
At our schools when I was growing up, if somebody lost the combination, or the administration had to get into a locker, the custodian would come with an iron bar and hammer, and place the bar atop the lock, strike it with a hammer, and basically the shackle would open.
