  • The dryer was squealing and had a scraping metal sound. Initially, I thought a coin was caught and was scraping on metal. However, the only issue that I found was the tension pulley needed to be lubricated.

Updated UPDATE: The metal scraping sound came back in a couple of days, so I ordered new rear drum roller wheels and new idler pulley / tension pulley assembly. Installed the new parts and the problem was fixed. I am not sure which part fixed the noise issue. I would have only installed only the tension pulley first and tested for a few days, if I had to do over again. UPDATE: one of the power relays burned up on the control board. I will have to replace the control board now.

It’s the washer between the tension pulley and the assembly. It’s plastic, it shrinks (and becomes brittle) causing the pulley wheel to grind against the assembly arm.

I have the same problem with the washer machine ( not dryer) model MVMB835DW3. I tested on light or heavy load… it still have the same noise… the faster the drum spin the louder it gets… squeaky/squealing noise. Do you think if i need to replace the idler pulley as well???

@@fedlieu9297 It is possible that is the issue. I didn't suspect mine, but it was the problem.

The idler pulley is the culprit. Sanding the shaft before putting the new wheel in helps.

I have the same exact dryer and my drum has play in it as well, in the back..
It was making loud squeaking noises, I replaced pulley and the drum wheels , that fixed it for 3 months! Lol. Now it's making the same squeaking sounds again! But now metal scraping noises as well too... So, taking it back apart again..ugghh!

When putting new tension pulley wheel and drum wheels on do you recommend high-temp grease?
I bought some red high-temp grease to put on the rods that the new tension pulley wheel and drum wheels will go on, when I work on it today. Also, I got some sand paper to sand a little the rods, if tbey do not spin freely..

I don't think it will hurt, but ultimately, replacing the pulley wheel solved my squealing issue.

Wow, every other video shows tear n it apart from the front and u easily went in fron the back

I have only gone in from the back for anything I've done on this model. However, I have not done anything that required me to remove the drum.

I'm in the exact same place that you were in. Where did you order a new tension pulley from and do you remember what the cost was? Thanks

Sorry, I don't have the part number or where I got it from online. I did some searching before I found the right one, though.

I have the same dryer. The drum stopped turning. Thinking it might be the belt...? Have you replaced yours?
I appreciate the video, its helpful to see what I might be getting myself into! 😅

No, I have not replaced my belt yet. The belt was in rough shape when I last looked at it. I was preparing to buy a replacement. However, it has not broken yet. It looked like the front panel or real panel would have to be removed in order to get the new belt around the drum. Or the drum would have to be removed partially to get the belt over it. I haven't looked to see if someone has a video on the easiest way to replace the belt.

It would of helped if you showed where you put the grease???

    • @mchenrykramer
      @mchenrykramer  Před rokem

I would not use the grease for anything more than a diagnostic tool. It will help you determine where the problem is, but it will most likely not last. The heat from the friction that is causing the noise will liquefy the grease and push the grease out. Then, you will be back to metal on metal, and the noise will come back. However, I think I removed the tension pulley and put grease on the shaft before re-installing the tension pulley.
