So depressing 😢 I shopped here at Lord & Taylor with my late husband when my kids were in grade school. We’d drive down from Harrisburg to go to the “big stores” in Alexandria. 💔 RIP to an era

The giant center part of the mall was used for Wonder Woman 1984. Patty Jenkins’s production designer decorated and renewed 65 different stores to make it look like an 80’s mall the stunt people had to cut into the columns to do the rigging and the mall was completely functional while they were filming. It was so cool to watch on the big screen when I saw it!!!

Not torn down yet, but soon. INOVA is going to build a new hospital there, and of course...condos.

Hi Dan, in case your question hasn't been answered yet, that center stage in the food court used to have a grand piano. When I would go on weekends, someone would be playing. Not sure when that ceased but I guess the stage had been vacant for quite awhile. Cheers 👍

The last stores in the mall are always: nail salon, Chinese buffet, and that weird store that sells souvenir lamps and pictures of Marilyn Monroe.

In 2017 I was doing a contract job in Washington DC and lived in Alexandria, Va. I had seen Landmark mall from the highway going past it and it looked huge so I thought I’d go check it out. I had not seen any dead mall videos at that time and was completely unaware about how malls were dying all around the nation. The only place open was the Sears and the rest of the mall was closed. I was absolutely shocked. This huge mall right off a busy highway in a densely populated Washington DC area that was dead. It was absolutely surreal and this was when I first became aware that malls were dying. It was a bit depressing. I was hoping to see a big beautiful mall. I didn’t understand how this could happen.

I used to live right next to Landmark It was pretty interesting to see the place use to have business to housing the homeless. 7:24 was actually a jewelry store and watch repair and 8:53 had a taco bell and chick fill a and there was a Pocket Change (arcade) and Waldenbooks.

I remember visiting Tysons Corner, Pentagon City and the Landmark the second time I visited the US in September - December 2006. The Landmark was already threadbare then. Pentagon City seemed to serve the nearby offices whereas Tysons Corner seemed to serve a much larger area. It's a shame to hear even the bigger malls are struggling too.

Its good for the mall to remain intact, designed to have them restored, repaired with new concept, since its atmosphere is 90s, that was 2 decades. It should catch up with the 22nd century. It can be designed with newer colors, aside from the concept and theme. Bankruptcy protection are always accorded to TAX payers, specially businesses and mall wide operation with the tenants and leasers, that are for permanency, as the options are also stated per mall agreements, attested by the building officers/building administrators and developers. Coordination between private and public sectors, while estate taxes are also realization standards for the building mall not to resort quickly in filing bankruptcy, since taxes are back up always in the businesses that both sectors attests in their respective operation. Taxes are designed for reconciliation of records and application of the measures and standards designed for businesses and consumers. Tearing buildings and demolishing are costly, time consuming and most of all not eco friendly. Its best to walk, visit malls from time to time, experience the standards of excellence.
