    Its weird to me that the "big names" in biking will mark down their products so much. In every other hobby/industry I've been in it puts a bad taste in the communities mouth and usually costs them brand image. But for some reason people will still pay 10k for a bike that everyone knows will be 5k in 6 months to a year on sale.

  • @godfellas483
    @godfellas483 Před měsícem +3

    Can't you drive to the states and buy a frame, build it up and bring it back as a whole bike? Who would know? But, my takeaway here is that you can just buy a used bike with a frame that you can live with (easy-peasy) and mod it since bikes are essentially modular anyways...Done!!! Also, I'm willing to bet that there is some Chinese knock off frame out there that cost a lot less than 1000 bucks and will ship worldwide. Another idea is to use a forwarding service for your purchase. Have it shipped to them, and they ship it to you...just saying. People do this with guitars all the time. 😎

    How fitting, as I just completed my second Frankenbike. I put a rebuilt 2010 RS Revelation on a 2007 Rocky Mountain Vertex Easton Ultralight frame. Any components that I didn't already have were sourced from AliExpress. Converted to a 1X using a Deckas chain ring on an XT Octalink crankset. Not only does this 21lb rocket look and ride nice, the therapy of the build on a $500CDN budget was the best part.

    Nothing wrong with running a non-narrow-wide chainring as 1×, as long as it is a single-speed chainring (i.e., with uniform longer teeth than on a double/triple chainring). What it needs is a clutched derailleur and a chainguide. I've been running such setup for years. Not many dropped chains on trails.

      Older bikes really are underrated, if you can shove the newer stuff on ANYTHING even the oldest feels like new. My 2009 Demo 8 got a BIG upgrade by courtesy of the original shock failing, getting the DHX5.0 replaced with a DHX2.0 Factory Series, it needed some custom hardware but it wasn't anything crazy, the upgrade was SO good it's not even funny, bump sensitivity increased by miles, loads of extra support on jumps... It was as if the bike i remembered as my dream just got better than i could ever imagine

I replaced the DHX5.0 with a DHX2.0 Factory Series, the bike felt BASURDLY different in the best way possible, loads of extra support on jumps, great sensitivity on bumps... what's the issue with getting frames to canada? i noticed the messages mantioned co2 cartridges and chemicals. is it cause they don't want to put the rear shocks in an airplane for delivery? couldn't they just let the air out before shipping? or maybe some of the online bike shops would be willing to sell a frame without a rear shock. or is it some weird import law or sth?

      The manufacturers have exclusive commercial distribution rights with entities in particular countries. If you’re the exclusive Felt distributor in Canada, you’re not going to want to face competition from the vastly larger USA. You can get around these issues if you buy used or new old stock, or use a freight forwarderz
