I know you no longer care for old bikes, but I'd love to see an even older, more obsolete full suspension PoS get a video.

203mm is almost exactly 8 inches where as 200mm is like 7.88 or something I believe that’s the only reason for the slight discrepancy in size. Saying you had 8 inch rotors back in the olden days of mountain biking was viewed as cool lol

  • @ref498
    @ref498 Před měsícem +15

Parts companies are loosing out not sponsoring you. They could give you unmoved merch from 2 years ago and you would put it on a shit bike and make an interesting video about it.
I swear no one changes parts out as much as you.

Now most rotors are in metric sizes and come in 20 mm increments. 140, 160, 180, 200, 220. Back in the day imperial sized rotors were also popular, like 6" (152), 7" (178) and 8" (203), but they've mostly gone away.

That high BB is the only thing that really stands out to me. Definitely not a slow tech type of rig, but probably okay for rocky descents.

  • @john_john_john

We have 203mm rotors probably because 203mm is around 0.00222034995625547 football fields, which is approximately 8 inches.

I have a huge scar on my left calf due to some +5 year old cranks. The left crank arm snapped and stabbed me in the back of my leg while powering through a short climb. At first I thought the chain snapped but then saw blood everywhere... and yeah I'm not taking chances with old equipment any more... specially the carbon/aluminium stuff. Happy to se you chose to put new ones in, I also have those on my enduro thing, they are cool.

  • @_Justinriceism_

I also have always questioned the 203 and therefore bought a 200 simply because I like round numbers. 200 & 180 just feels better to say and I can use the same adapter front and rear.

from what I can see, that frame is a linkage driver single pivot or "faux bar" setup. Notice the rear pivot is on the seat stay above the rear axle not on the chainstay before the rear axle. Same setup as my older merida 140.

Why not see how an moto cross fork like from a kawasaki kx 80 mid wheeler feels on that bike? when I was a teen I swapped one of those forks on my ht mtb, it was so heavy but suddenly downhilling was a breeze as the whole bike was more lika a chopper after the operation. 203mm rotors are actully the more broader standard, I have those xt servro rotors on my ht rigit 26" xc bike at front.

  • @sim_dude

13:30 - 1.5mm, obviously, and SRAM wanting to be different from the norm. Probably to keep the consistent +20mm size increments of PM brake adaptors, otherwise there is this weird progression of 140-160-203-220 because rotor sizes were 'determined' 20 years ago and they stuck.

That FSA crank could, i reckon, take any 104mm N/W chainring. But I bet Eric knew that.
EDIT: that CC has an offset bushings - there is an opportunity to drop the BB a touch.
EDIT2: Run the CC upside down - should clear the bike without wasting the offset.

Everybody...Stop buying new bikes to satisfy the MTB industry. It is a big behemoth industry that brings very little to the table. Fix your old bikes, and make them better with very little cost. It's a carrot on the stick industry and they move the stick as soon as you bite. Don't buy into the hype...there is very little ROI gain for dollar spent. 😎
