The CAPESTHORNE HALL Classic Car Show August 2023

  • August's Capesthorne Hall classic car show served up quite a variety of cars despite the stormy skies, from dusty survivors such as a patina-laden Morris Minor and Vauxhall Viva, to immaculate gems such as a 1930's Bentley, a pair of immaculate 6v VW Beetles, and a multitude of glistening Mercedes Benz saloons, M-B being the featured marque for this, day two of the August 2023 Capesthorne Hall classic car show.
    Other classic cars that caught our eye in particular, and make it into this video, include a dazzling Corvette Stingray roadster, a wonderful black Mercedes-Benz 220 "Ponton" saloon, a very smart Austin A40 Somerset in grey, a red Renault 4CV, an early Volvo P1800S with a unique rear lamp conversion (undertaken in '60s Malaysia I found out, off camera), a great Mk1 Morris Mini-Minor, a pre-war Vauxhall Light Six, a fantastic 1950s Mercury station wagon, a rare Maserati motorcycle, and - somewhat newer - a very neat little Nissan Pao of the late 1980s.
    The classic car show at Capesthorne Hall always turns up some interesting old cars and this time was no exception, despite the ever-present threat of dark clouds promising to dampen the fun, so a big thumbs-up to all the classic car owners who took their cars along for the day.

    Thanks again, Richard. I love this venue at Capesthorne Hall for the setting and attendees. Too bad it was a bit soggy this time, but it didn't seem to put too much of a dent in the video coverage. I'm growing to like those wedge Princesses more, but the Consul Mark II's and Cambridges of the '60's really appeal. Thanks again.

    Good one Rick. When you were talking about that early Mini you missed mentioning the one thing and you could see it on the floor hump.... the push button start. Not many of those early ones left anywhere in the world.

    As an estate car guy, I need to look no further than the two tone Mercury estate as my No 1 take home car, 2, has to be the MG Magnette ZB, late 60s early 70s so many destroyed at Aldershot stock car stadium, I supported number 77 Foxy Dance he always drove a Magnette.
    And 3, I love the Vauxhall HA with the rough patina look. I fancy owning a car looking like that.
    There are other cars I would love, but that's my choice for today.
    Enjoyable video, I admire your dedication Richard.

    Hi 👋 Thank you for a brilliant video of cars, especially the Mercedes-Benz models. German cars are very classy. I liked the older ones from the 1950s through to the 1980s. Today's new models aren't the same.

    My favourite car here will be the Bentley T with it's original styled dashboard which was restyled May '69. The car here will still have the 6230cc engine. The 6750cc engine appeared July '70. Great video as always. Best wishes. james.

    Fabulous collection not only Mercs but many other marques. The W126 for me is pinnacle of Mercedes Benz excellence, I have ridden in then many times in Germany. When I sit behind the wheel of my W221 and gaze at the 3 pointed MB star it does me a feeling of absolute smug pleasure. I think in recent times Mercedes have taken a backwards step in terms of quality and reliability, they have become to electronics dependent. Good Video RJ

    Hello both . What a line up ! Impossible pick a favourite but there's no denying the presence of the Mercedes 220 SE , the E500 , the 420 SCC and the Ponton . However back in the day l painted a Jensen FF and when the car was finished the owners father brought along his new £90k + 420 SCC . I was shocked at the appalling paintwork .l'd seen better on a wheelbarrow . The excuse was that this was the "new" waterbase system . And as for rust issues l think Mercedes must have used the left over steel from Vauxhall in the 1970's .My paint supplier had a 6 year old Mercedes 230 saloon . I was already replacing sills ,bonnet and front wings and replacing the rear wheel arches . So l thought that Morris Mini Minor was very cheeky ! And l've just finished doing extensive rust repairs on a 1955 M.G Magnette ZA but for a '68 year old car it's in amazing conditon. And you can get all the relevant repair panels .....amazing ! That Concorde was obviously in it's early design stage and who can't forget that wonderful, evocative smell of Castrol "R" Thankyou gentlemen .

    What an amazing line up. I must be a bit of an odd ball, I have never been very keen on Mercedes Benz cars. I much prefer the English performance and luxury cars. Having said that, my pick of the day is the HA Viva, an amazing original car. My own first car was a 1969 HB Viva. Not quite as basic as the HA - it had a passenger's visor, and it took me any miles without issue.

      The Tel-U-Log is a small magnetic thing that attaches to the dashboard. On it you record your mileage, and the amount of fuel used, so that you can calculate your mpg!

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  Před 10 měsíci

      Wellll time rolls on, more cars fall into the category thanks to their age if nothing else. I remember when I first got interested in the subject how people writing to magazines were decrying cars of the 1960s, writing them all off as boring grey porridge not worth saving.

  • @hughgreid
    @hughgreid Před měsícem

    Cannot keep calling everything a Classic. Many are called but few are chosen! Old bangers are just that - old bangers. What is next - old bicycles, old farm carts, old farmhouses, old railway trains etc. Most old things are just that -old!! Certainly fun and interesting as a hobby, but like old Prime Ministers they have to be put out to pasture for their time is up !!
