Another fabulous look back into our motoring history, I had to chuckle at the 70’s household carpets in that lovely old Cressida, my parents did exactly the same thing with most of their cars in that era, they generally accompanied them with a ‘Feu Orange’ air freshener you had to stick pins in to activate and some fabric fluffy seat covers, they were the days !

Fantastic ! I love these selections of photographs - take me right back to my childhood. So much less traffic around and everything seemed so civilised and un hurried ! All those British car Marques GONE now - very sadly. No competition any more. Thanks for compiling these videos Rick, they really are a trip down memory lane. Take care 🙂

My dad was a ham (W7OZJ) since the 50s. That setup at about 30:50 reminds of an activity we call "field day" in the U.S. Operators take their cars and antenna wire, etc, to a remote location and try to "work" people DX. When I was about Harley's age, I was going along to climb trees and hang antenna wire for the duffers. ! It's a fun hobby activity, but is also used for civil defense. When the Teton dam failed in the 70s, the hams were mobile and passing messages "traffic," they call it) so families would know their relatives, etc., were safe.

Frightening to realise that I owned at least 6 of these model cars. Hillman Minx, Ford Anglia, Triumph Dolomite, Vauxhall FD, Rover SD1, Ford Escort Mk1. Might have missed a few too… Life passes so quickly.

The white ADO 16 Registration number 8657 KM , I think the location is the New Forest. I lived in Southampton for several decades so that looks familiar with the 'soil mound' on the right it has the feel of the New Forest. Some really interesting locations here as well as the interesting cars. What are some of the events taking place? Who knows but you can bet that a camera would be pressed into service at a wedding and of course holiday snaps too. The slides have scanned very well so thank you Rick for taking the trouble to prepare this collection for our viewing, most enjoyable. 👍👍

    Great video.
Back when the Yugo first came to the U.S., I had a young friend who worked at the same restaurant as I. We became best friends.
When he turned 18, his mom’s boyfriend co-signed and put up the front money for a brand new Yugo GVL. [ The “L” was for “Luxury “🤣]. He treated it gently, but it was in the shop more than on the road. Recall, after recall, and always issues. At 40,000 miles, it was just wore out. Transmission was going, the rings in the motor were bad, front end was literally worn out, CV joints were clicking, speedometer and fuel gauge packed up,…. They took the car to the Bank [ where it was financed], and they handed over the keys. [ They stopped payments, and the man got a “ding “ against his Credit.].
The last ones to be imported were not as bad. Some still even exist here. I saw a convertible not long ago. Should have taken a photo.
    📻🙂

Nice as always. I particularly like the Vitesse. Great idea to put a relatively large engine in a relatively small car. Did not help Triumph much. Yet, when BMW copied this a few years later with the famous 2002 range, it did help BMW a lot. Pity, the car world would have been better if the popular British makes would still be around. Jaguar, LR and Morgan are not really popular cars... By the way the first picture with the Opel Rekord is most likely in The Netherlands. The houses look like Dutch ones and the license plate of the Rekord looks Dutch as well, even though only a small part of it is visible.

Loved this. As the family had a friend who ran the local Renault franchIse, we hat several., including 4s 16s but sadly no DS, but I was given an R8 when I went to uni and loved it; it had some of the most comfortable seats of any in the era . A fiend took me to the Lakes in the snow in his parents new Anglia and the one on a Lakes pass looks like either Hardknott or Kikstone, I rallied a Midget and rather modified it wheI span into a wall on the Manx International! My school friend had an Riley they pompously called a baby Bentley as it had a hand formed body! And I once drove a Cortina for a while which was the most tail happy car of all, pirouetting at the drop of a had when cornering enthusiastically. But hey! I could go on as I recognised all of the cars (except some commercials) due to me being an ancient codger who lived in the Golden Era! Excllent vd! Rob.

A bit of information on 2 of the photos. The location of the one with the Morris Minor and the Opel Rekord would be The Netherlands. The houses look distinctly Dutch, and the registration on that Opel is definitely Dutch. And so is the registration on the BMW. And it's a bit of a special registration too. As the BN series of number plates were reserved for non-Dutch citizens residing in The Netherlands.

wrt missing DVLA data. I have seen hundreds of UK registered cars in scrapyards in Romania. Pre-Brexit, the UK was a popular source of cheap second-hand vehicles which often gave several years of service before finally requiring uneconomic repairs. I suspect that few of those exports or eventual scrappings were ever notified to the DVLA.
