Absolutely NOT! A '50 STUDEBAKER IS A CLASSIC, TIMELESS DESIGN! Who tf decided "what all Americans hate"?? I wasn't consulted, and I seriously doubt that anyone was. This list is subjective bs that was decided upon by someone who knows Jack s**t about classic cars. Personally, I say don't speak for all Americans. Next time why don't you just say "The cars that I personally hate".. Then, maybe, your vids will look like it isn't cheap click bait nonsense, and you might actually gain some future viewers rather than losing them.

The 1950 Studebaker was by no means a clunker. Studebaker always made good cars.

My dad had a Studebaker and it was a very nice and reliable car.
I considered the bullet nose to be very attractive as well as the starlight rear window. It may not have been too practical though. The 60 Pontiac was also available with a similar rear window. So If you really want to lambast Studebaker you can start wit their 170 cid flathead engine. This engine may have won many economy runs, but it made uo for this by having aprophensity to leak & burn oil as well as burn out valves.

"20 Worst American Cars Of The 1950s That EVERY American Hates", Speak for yourself pal, that bullet nose Studebaker is a great classic and one of the most popular cars of the 50's. The Studebaker Lark was a stylish looking car that sold very well for a few years; and as for the '53-'54 Corvette, they may well have been underpowered but are worth a veritable fortune today, so it is not a car that very many if any hate.
The problem with the '53 and '54 Corvettes was the same problem for most GM cars: the chassis layout. The steering column was mounted on the inside of the chassis, thus leaving not enough room for a V-8. Someone at GM finally got a brilliant (though terribly late) idea to simply mount the steering column on the outside of the chassis. Voila! As mentioned in many comments: the AI voice was very noticeable immediately! I also agree that there were too many import cars. European car manufacturers were still trying to rebuild their infrastructure after WWII, and gas prices were extremely high. So compact cars, as well as underpowered cars, were very common. Manufacturers, especially in former Axis countries, were in really bad shape. o their cars were mostly horrible compared with the same companies in the 1930s.
I could go on about what were later U.S. cars that weren't part of the "Big Three". The "Independents" were far better than you made them out to be. Whilst the Nash and Hudson (later together as AMC) were not as flashy as the heavily chrome crowd, the were very practical. These cars were also iconic, like the Rambler and Metropolitan. And the Nash-Healey was trying to combine a "Rambler" look to the front with the Pinin-Farina design. AMC also was helping Austin and later Healey (or Austin-Healey) stay in business. The Metropolitan (very iconic) was very successful after a larger displacement engine was made available, even though it was still underpowered. However, Austin, who made engines for many British compacts, didn't yet need to deal with the highway speeds in the U.S. Studebaker, in 1953, came out with a Lowery-designed body that was definitely before its time (although it imitated Pinin-Farina to some degree). The design was used for too long. (the Hawk and the Lark were their only improvements, but the bodies were still the same)
Your channel will do better if you get rid of the AI voice and not be so "opinionated", or perhaps "balanced" in your evaluations. Even the Edsel had its "teething" problems that were ironed out later. But the damage was already done! The name "Edsel" became synonymous with "lemon".
Actually, that Corvette 6 was pretty nice, 150 horsepower, then 155 horses, from a 235 6 cyl with tri-power. What ruined the car was that 2 speed Powerglide and no manual transmission. Also, the lack of a rear sway bar hurt.
@@stevenward3856 There was no Chevy V8 until 1955, unless you want to count the 1917 - 1918 V8 Chevy. Also, Cadillac was V8 only since about 1917, Oldsmobile went V8 for the second time in 1949, it is not true that GM cars couldn't accommodate a V8 engine.
@@jamesbosworth4191 You didn't read what I had written! I never mentioned anything about 1955, but I only mentioned the '53 and '54 Corvette. The change that you mentioned was after'54. (numerically 1955) And there was a change in the placement of the steering, which made it possible without going to a whole new chassis. The idea came from the drag racing crowd who would do anything to "shoehorn" a bigger engine, even if it wasn't a GM.

I don't know if EVERY American hates al of these cars, but I do know that I personally hated the AI robot narration with its mispronunciations, odd pauses, weird inflections, and uncertainty as to whether to adopt an American, British, or Spanish persona....

How insulting. Our first depend iable car that we could afford was a 53 studiabaker and it was a very dependable car and we loved it. Next car we loved was a 55 Nash rambler station wagon and it was a exilant car.
Everything about this video screams A I. From the fact that many of these cars were not American, to the misidentification of some models, to the random and ridiculous mispronunciation of basic words, to the wrongheaded assumption that all these cars are worthy of our hatred, there is so much of this that misses the mark.

I would love to find one today. They were great little cars, and built half a mile away from where I was brought up in Birmingham, England. They were sold in England as the Austin Metropolitan.
I have a '60 black and white convertible. It garners a crowd no matter where you're at. Funny story...I was in Vancouver and this lady was walking by and said nice car. I said yes it was Shirley Temple's and it's worth over $300 000.😁
Shared one with a buddy in school. The starter was shot so we always had to either park on a hill or have a clear path ahead to push it. Fun memories.

it's all point of view,one of the best cars i ever owned ( and i have owned and driven over 40 cars) was a 1954 nash ambassador 2nd a 1959 nash rambler , 1951 studabaker, 1951 kaiser, 1954 lincoln 1951 mercury,. worst cars, 1959 ford thunderbird 1957 lincoln . what he fails to mention is that most of the cars made in europe were made for city driving, not the open roads of america!

I had a Champion here in the UK back in the 60s. A very rare sight over here at that time. I think people thought I was a time traveller from outer space . I loved it . Wish I still had it . I now drive an old Granada . That's pretty nice too .
And unlike most cars of the 50s and 60s, it will get close to 30 MPG if equipped with Overdrive.
Who or whatever wrote this wasn't around to actually drive these cars, ride in them or see them in traffic. Some of the foreign jobs were not even sold in America so why include them?

The Messerschmidt KR200, Fiat Multipla and BMW Isseta were all sold in such tiny numbers in the US to make this channel a mockery. The 3 cars I mention above were also brought out during Europe's recovery from WWII and reflected a need for mobility and economy that we Americans could have never appreciated. This is what makes this channel so stupidly arrogant and so typically part of the ethos of ugly Americanism.

I always liked the BMW Isetta. I got to sit in one about 25 years ago. I was 6'2" then. Fun experience.

The 1954 Buick was one of the most best selling GM cars of the year! The front end design was imitated by several other brands, and even today the grill and headlight trim of a '54 Buick will sell in the thousands to collectors and street rod enthusiasts. The '54 was touted as "The Beautiful Buy" by critics that year, and the name has stuck among collectors. There are very active clubs devoted to this year model Buick, and when I drive mine I receive lots of admiring comments and offers to purchase. I have never, (and I'm 75,) heard disparaging comments about the design in all the years I have owned it. Not a fan of this channel....

@@jamesbosworth4191 Thanks for your reply...To be honest, I had a Datsun 280Z that was quite a winner and I wish I had not sold so cheaply, but I find it so odd that anyone could make the categorical statement that "Every American Hated These Cars." Clearly, Every American did not hate these cars, in most cases they were often the pride and joy of the families who had them in the '50s. My '54 Buick is worth ten times what it cost new! I have a friend who has a 49 Studebaker who has been offered $30,000 for his car! We never hated these cars! The public showed clearly that these cars were popular in the day, and as much today. Have a Kaiser Darrin? You could fund a modest college education on what you could sell it for today!

I owned a 58 Olds! It was actually a very good car. Except for the Corvette, 1958 GM cars were chrome barges. If you want to point out ugly cars any 1959 American car will fit the bill, with few exceptions.

Isn't it strange how they're calling some of the cars of the same size roomy, or too small, depending on which double standard the authors determine to manipulate.
I drove a 53 Nash 2dr wagon in high school. it handled better than a 69 road runner that could not keep up in turns. it had a 196 with a 3speed with od.. got 25 to 30 mpg. it died with 250k miles after being flogged by a teenager.

Agree they were good cars. Well made and actually good drivers. Our uncle had one and I really liked it. The design was clean and simple, unlike the average 4 wheel barges that the big 3 were building at that time.
This is why I don't fear AI. As soon as you fed it "coupé" it suddenly lurched into some 5th grader's idea of a French accent.
BTW, no one in the '50s "hated" these cars. They all had their fans and market niche. If you weren't a fan, you could ignore it.

That is a 1953- 1959 Ford Anglia 100E. You're giving a description for the 105E While showing pictures of the previous model and don't look anything like each other.

I owned a 1950 Studebaker Champion when I was stationed in Japan in the 1960s. I loved that car. Funny looking, but built like a tank, bulletproof, and indestructible. Besides, each rear armrest lifted up and each held a six-pack of beer with ice. I traveled everywhere with my three buddies. Economical. I'd love to have one now. I trusted that car to bring me home from adventures that would destroy any modern car - or truck.

@@qmusclecars Thanks for your interest in my comment. You have to know that you are comparing dissimilar cars from different time periods and countries. Every era for economic or other reasons (e.g. fashion) has cars that seem funny to us today but then they had a reason to exist, such as e.g. the strange BMW Iseta or the also strange Citroën 2CV. Therefore the title does not correspond to the content but also the choice besides objective criteria also contains a personal opinion, I believe. E.g. I didn't understand why Ford Anglia was a failure.
Your presentation had some good points but I believe a title like that is hard to come by.

Totally inaccurate report on the British Ford Anglia. The car shown was produced from 1952 to 1959 and was hugely successful as a cheap family saloon. It's styling, along with the 4 door "Prefect" version, was a based on the larger "Consul" & "Zephyr/Zodiac" Saloons. All the cars had a distinct family identity based on their early '50s American 'cousins' and were all very successful. It should also be noted that they were Ford of Britain's very first post-WW2 products. A stripped down, more basic, version - the 'Popular' - was produced from '59 to '62, making it it the cheapest 'real' car In Uk, whilst it's successor, a new Anglia, was a radical and equally successful best seller.

I don't hate cars as much as this content creator does. These cars are more interesting than abominable. I tend to favor channels with real human voices.
I like some of these cars. After seeing the new cars today, with all their complexities when fixing them, I'd gladly buy one of these old classics.

I'll tell you what's clunky, the error ridden CG narration, and yet they used it anyway. Half of these cars are not American. Hudson, Studebaker had a lot of innovations. What's so bad about mid 50s chrome behemoths from GM. A friend had a '54 Buick, I loved it.

I owned a 1951 Studebaker Commander Starlight coupe. It had a small V8, a two speed automatic transmission, and more rear leg room than many modern cars have in the front. I wish I still had it. Oh, and it had a 6-volt positive ground battery. It was an amazing ride.
My father bought a new 1952 Studebaker Champion when I was 3 years old and kept it until 1960. I loved that car.

I was a trained professional wrench in the 60's and 70's in a garage that serviced all makes and models. My cronies and I really didn't "hate" any automobile as they were how we made a living. But, that doesn't mean we didn't look with much amusement at many of these models. Also, as an earlier commenter stated, no one hates a 50's Studebaker. And, the narration really sucks.

I've driven Hudson Jets in the past (I own a 1953 Hudson Super Wasp) and I never found the engine lacking even without the "Twin H" carburetors. I've never heard anyone complain about the Jet being difficult to work on because of its "unconventional" unibody. In fact, all Hudsons made from 1948 to the last year of the make, 1957, were of unibody construction. I've worked plenty of times on my Super Wasp and others I've had and never found the unibody to be an issue. A number of things hurt 1953-54 Jet sales (the two years the car was made). Yes, it came along in a competitive, compact car market following the Nash Rambler, Henry J and Willys Aero. Also, the styling of the car, its roof being too high, hurt the car and let's not overlook the "Ford Blitz" whereby Ford went after Cheverolet to become the number one seller of cars and instead ended up hurting the independents like Hudson, Studebaker and Nash. Also, why buy a Hudson Jet when could purchase a similar looking 1953 Ford for less money and it was also a larger car.
A. E. Barit, head of Hudson, loved the 52 Ford and insisted that the Jet be a shrunken Ford.
@@jamesbosworth4191 I also heard that Jim Moran ("The Courtesy Man"), who operated a large Hudson dealer on Grand Ave. in Chicago and sold the most Hudsons in the country, wanted Hudson to produce a car similar to that Ford. Perhaps the answer lies somewhere between these two individuals.
@@WAL_DC-6B Maybe both of them felt that way, and because of that, Hudson produced it. To me, the biggest problem was the side trim. The two pieces look misplaced, like they were an afterthought. If it had a single strip, like the big Hudsons, the car would have been much better looking. It would have look longer and lower.

He used to come out and sit in the styling discussions and complain about lack of change (on the big cars)." Moran espoused some features of the 1952 Ford."

Langworth in chapter 4, "Hudson's Edsel: The Short, Sad Flight of the Jet": "Unfortunately the finished product didn't look like the drawing (original styling). It was high and narrow and bulged in the wrong places. It's a shame because conceptually the car was excellent."

A friend had a Studebaker Lark V-8 straight drive. I drove it a few times and rather liked it. My family had Pontiacs.
The '50 Studebaker was the best car my family ever had. I was 7 years old and it was so dependable - never had any other car to match it.
They are not "clunkers" , they were just inexpensive cars made for the masses. Most of them know nothing about car maintenance so they fall apart. it can happen to any car even to Iskatii's pos '94 Toyota Celica.

At around 8:37 the video is describing the 1959 Ford Anglia 105E, reverse slope back window and truncated rear end etc, but the pictures are of the previous model Anglia, the 100E produced from 1953 to 1959. They were completely different, the 100E model pictured had a sidevalve (flathead) engine and 3 speed gearbox but the 1959 model being described in the commentary was overhead valve and 4-speed with the new body shape. (Both were rubbish by the way, I passed my driving test here in the UK in a 105E Anglia).

Oh I love Chrome . Can't have too much of it. The Olds is awesome . Modern cars and motorbikes have almost none . The motorbikes are mostly all Matt black .... Horrible .
@@ry491 To me, the Matt black treatment reminds me of the cars produced from January 1942 - February 1942. They were referred to as Blackout cars. Chromium was needed for the war effort.

I owned a 1959 Ford Anglia (it had 4 doors and was called the Ford Prefect). It was a unique little car. Hard to find parts. But I am honored that this car's name has lived on in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy novels.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion. However I think post war era of the 50s was a time of facing a world that was evolving and changing from our agricultural roots to what we have in our present day culture. Beyond utilitarian use of an automobile, the time was an upheaval to seeing what works and what did not, since the public was changing from public to private transportation and culturally changing too. It was a time when the perception of a formula that would work for a public in flux was hard to pin down.

I like how the pronunciation of words tried to slip out of English. The pictures of the Anglia doesn't fit to the description. The describe an 105E, but show an 100E. That on the pictures was the predecessor model.

In the early 50's Studebaker developed a reputation for being oil burners. This was true. The reason was because Studebaker could not afford to season it's engine blocks for the required 12 months common in the industry. Studebaker cured it's engine blocks for only six months which left them soft and prone to warping.

I LOVED my 1952 Studebaker Champion. I found it on a used car lot with 17,000 real miles. Rushed home and asked my father to buy it for me to drive to college. He paid $600. I ran it to about 75,000 miles in 5 years, with few repairs.

The very best way to watch this video is without audio so that you can enjoy the images. Now that there are no independent auto makers (except for electric vehicles) one only sees the me-too-ism of the contemporary auto scene. The narrator probably wasn't born when these cars were made and has never experienced these vehicles except at car shows. The world economic scene after WW2 brought many of these into existence. Contemporary styling with slashes, recessed panels, and huge cheap plastic grills, further proves that aesthetics is dead.
The narrator never was born. It's a truly weird computer generated bot voice, not unlike the incoherent script.
Their should be something in it for us, having to listen to the narration to the end!
