    My brand new Margiela Tabis were ruined by a highly recommended shoe repair/restore place in Dallas (they mainly deal with high end designer). The leather is different colors, stiff and sticky. Hi! I hope you will see my question. :) I recently did some restoration on the leather trim and handles of a Gucci purse. The items I used were all Angelus- the leather preparer and deglazer, cream acrylic leather paint and finished with the acrylic finisher. Now, the handles of the purse have a sticky feeling to them. I have tried wiping them down with a small amount of rubbing alcohol but they still feel sticky. Did I do something wrong that's causing this? Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thank you, so much! :)

    Hey, hey! love your products and this video was good refresher after quite the hiatus I took. Which brings me to my personal question that wasn't addressed in this video NOR could I find a definitive and sure-fire answer elsewhere. My hiatus was quite long (about a year), and I've kept all my materials and paints. All of the paints that were opened prior to have gotten lumpy and, in some cases, have a marshmallow consistency. How do I go about bringing the paint back to it's original form without ruining the color? As for the marshmallow consistency, is it over for those particular paints and need to be replace?

      Well, I would love to know the answers too!! Would y’all mind sharing your knowledge pretty please? 🤞🏻☺️🤍

    • @Hussuki
      @Hussuki Před 2 lety +2

      @@barbie3166 So here's what was told to me. Take note I'm paraphrasing here, it's been a while since I was given this information, but I'll do my best. Essentially what had happened to the paint, was that the "marshmallow" consistency was an indication that the paint had separated like expired milk. Once this occurs in old paint, there is no helping it. Ultimately, I had to throw out ALL of my supplies since I could no longer use them. Looking back, my hiatus was longer than a year to most of the paints I haven't gotten a chance to use yet. However, had there been only some clumps to deal with, the solution is adding a bit of 2-thin to the paint a little at a time until the clumps were completely gone. So whatever I did use that had clumps in them became a chore getting all the clumps out, so I just tossed them as well.
      I hope this helps XD

    • @barbie3166
      @barbie3166 Před 2 lety

      @@Hussuki thanks for sharing this!! So when referring to marshmallows and paint, it's not a good thing...but marshmallows, in general, are yummy! 😉 So sorry to hear that you had to throw away all your paints...they're quite an investment. 💸 Anyways, thanks again for sharing this! Now I know what to do if I let them sit for too long. I guess maybe if they have been setting for a while, shake them up a bit so they don't mess up? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Wouldn’t hurt to try I guess. 👍🏻 🤗

    I have vegan doc martins. If I use 2 hard will it not crack? I just finished real docs with your paint and finisher and these need redone now. I used paint markers before I found your paint and of course they wore pretty hard. Thanks!

    • @AngelusBrand
      @AngelusBrand  Před 2 lety +1

      The 2-Hard will harden the paint onto the surface. This will make the paint less flexible. With that in mind, we recommend the paint alone. You can sand the area as well, that will give you a better surface to apply the paint to.

  • @barbie3166
    @barbie3166 Před 2 lety +1

    Would you recommend doing a light “scuff sand” on a leather Bible? And if so, do I do it before the preparer and deglazer? I can mix different colors with each other to make other colors, right? I mean, I don’t have to use anything more to be able to do that? Aaaannnnnd….one last question…for now lol. Is it okay to mist water over the paint every now and then to keep it from drying out? Or will that change up the paint in some way?
    I’ve never used this type of paint before and don’t know much about it. I use regular acrylic paint and acrylic chalk paint…so this acrylic leather paint is my first rodeo.🤠 Thanks for this video!! Looking forward to giving this leather paint a try! 👍🏻

    • @AngelusBrand
      @AngelusBrand  Před 2 lety +1

      I would use the sanding method. It is the safest way when you are not sure how soft and delicate the leather is. No leather preparer is needed in that case. The paint will be fine once dry, however it wouldn't hurt it if you want to do that with the water.

I've been trying over and over with mine and they 100% always crack within the first minutes of use. sad. but I've seen other people paint on faux leather boots and they turn out fine. so that's why I have that question. could you please do a tutorial for those?

    • @AngelusBrand
      @AngelusBrand  Před rokem

      This is a tough one since they are so flexible and not a leather that is sturdy to carry the paint. There are many steps you can take to prevent the cracking. Aside from the sanding, and leather preparer, you can also use an adhesion promoter. That will also allow the paint to sit on the surface a little better. Please make sure to reach out to us at info@angelusdirect.com so that your answer is attended to quickly.

    How long does the paint need to cure before applying the finisher? And how long should one wait between coats of finisher?
    Also, if a furniture is painted- is there a recommended curing time before you use it (like other paints for example where it is usually a week or so..)? Thanks 😊😊

    • @AngelusBrand
      @AngelusBrand  Před 4 měsíci

      Depending on temperature will affect how long it takes paint and finishers to dry, so there is no specific time, just make sure to use thin coats and wait for each layer to be fully dried. After you are finished, we do recommend waiting at least 24 hours before using the customized product.

    Got a question that doesn't seem to be covered here. Let's say I want to do a project involving veg-tanned leather, which will be tooled and stamped in various ways to create patterns, textures, and designs. But here's the thing: I want the leather to be white. Now, getting chrome tanned leather in white is pretty simple, but chrome tanned leather cannot be tooled. Nor is it possible to "dye" leather white because that's not how white works.
    So my question is how can one achieve a white finish to a leather project that will be seeing a LOT of wear? To be specific, I'm talking about a wrestling championship belt, like the WWE Intercontinental Championship; a finished product that is going to see a lot of travel (being stuffed into luggage with or without a protective cloth sleeve), a lot of flexing, bending, even "folding" (as much as one can "fold" 5-9oz. leather), as well as likely being used more than once as a blunt-force weapon. Simply put, it needs to be able to take a beating. Dye isn't an option as I mentioned, and paint under those conditions is highly likely to crack, split, or flake off entirely.
    I've found only a couple videos of people whitening leather by highly diluting the paint (9:1 water to paint ratio) and brushing on 3-4 coats (letting it dry completely between coats), upping the amount of paint of paint in the mix, 3-4 more coats, and keep repeating that process to the point of having applied literally dozens of coats over the course of several hours before seeing even marginal results, days before it's noticeably white, and several coats more for good measure so it doesn't scratch off instantly.
    There has to be a faster way.
    I had a theory that maybe "cutting" white paint with the "neutral" dye instead of water (or at least adding it to the mix) might help the paint permeate and speed up the process but I don't know if acrylic paint CAN mix with the dye compound. And I don't know how such a mixture (or even the "slow build-up method I found others using) might affect the tooling. I don't want to end up losing any of the detail in the process.
    Any suggestions on how to to make tooled, veg-tanned leather a crisp, satin/glossy white?

      You would not need to do that since that white will be FLAT already. However adding more will be fine, it will just make the finish even flatter. I recommend no more than 1-2%

      From what I’ve studied and learned it’s personal preference. I’ve found there is no universal answer I’ve searched too. Some say no heat gun ever. Some say heat gun used carefully is fine. Some say hair dryer on cool no heat gun. Some say natural drying time only. I’ve asked 10 different customizes. I went with 20

      Hello Rachel, usually this is due to prep. Please send us some pictures to info@angelusshoepolish.com so we can help you out. Sometimes you may need to sand the product if its a weird one. Sometimes things look like real leather but aren't. Either that or the top coat of the leather really needs to be worked off.

    What about curing the paint? Is it recommended to use a heat gun to dry the paint? What about leaving the shoe in a humid room for a longer drying time? Is it true that the longer it takes to dry the more durable the paint is? Just curious.

    • @AngelusBrand
      @AngelusBrand  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes the longer the dry time the more durable they will be. Humidity will always be bad for paint. Whatever dry room with a nice temperature above ~70 degrees would be ideal. You can use a heat gun to speed it up as well. We have even used a box before with a heat gun pointed at it but be careful to not burn the shoes.
