4-COAT is a brand new scratch resistant urethane clear coat that is available in 4 finishes.
About 4-COAT
Shake well before use. If there are bubbles present, please let them settle before use. Do not apply excessively, or rub for a long period of time. Not to be used on nappy leathers, or suede. Multiple layers of this product can be applied (we recommend 2-3 layers) with a brush, or an airbrush. You must allow 24 hours for this to dry (in humid climates, this may take longer.)
This product is not used with Finisher, this is used in place of it as it has better wear resistance and durability since this is a urethane based top coat. The sheen is also much stronger on all 4 top coats.
From least shine to most shine;
FLAT- No shine at all. Completely dull.
MATTE- Contains a little shine to it.
SATIN- This is closest to a new shoe finish. Will have a "haze" look to it.
HIGH GLOSS- As close you can get to a "patent" look. However may vary on what it is being applied to.

Had to come back to this video. I’m a avid fan of liquid kicks matte finish but like you mentioned towards the end it’s not available but Angelus 4 coat is. I feel confident in this product after re-watching this. Going to pick up today. Thanks- Weird Art Society
Hey bro thank you for this review! Super helpful and love the honesty you provide while being sponsored. 👊
Thank you man! Authenticity is huge!
I have the new 4 Coat Flat finisher and it is great. I used it on Hornets pair I just fished up and was extremely happy with the results.
Pumped to hear that!
A Saturday upload!!! I'm here for it 🙌🏾
Ayyyyyyyy!! Gotta keep you on your toes 👀🤙🏽😂
It took a while but you finally talked me into purchasing duller. Around the same time I discovered liquid kicks. I say that to say I still have bottles of duller that I’ve never touched and never wheel. Beforehand I used Angelus matte finish along with Krylon Matt finish spray. Kinda glad I missed the duller wave.
Haha I’m very glad we no longer need to take that extra step!
Great video, man ! 🎨
Your videos are so helpful thank you
Thanks for watching!
Hi there! Do you use any kind of sealer on fabric sections that you dyed with too soft added? The inner liner always runs onto my socks (and tongue of sneaker) even after heat sealing it.
My personal go to is Raleigh Restorations scratch resistant sealer. This stuff is just amazing.
I can't find any for sale. It's like they went out of business. I found 1 site that had 9 1oz containers left, but nothing else. Website is gone and links to social media as well.
sometimes with darker colors I see the paint color on to the brush when using finisher, also smearing onto other lighter colors. Is there something I'm doing wrong? thanks great vid
I recently painted a swoosh on a shoe and applied normal finisher and its way to glossy.so can i buy the 4 coat matte clear coat and just put it on top? Or do i have to acetone the area first and maybe repaint?
Nice one. But can it be used for leathe sole finishing?
Can this finisher be used on silver toe Jordan 1’s? Or which one would you recommend for silver tips. Trying to fix the scuff on the metallic silver part of the shoe.
Thanks for the info homie 👊🏾❤
I can just constantly watch you, non stop. You're doing a great job. I customize stuff as well, and would love it if you ever give my work a review. In my country OGs are hardly available, neither can we easily get our hands on the standard leather paint like Angelus or Alpha 6, even air brushes are hard to obtain. A cricut stancil printer is a bit of a luxury, yet I have tried to solve all those problems and been customizing for past 4 years in my limited means, finding lowkey solutions to them. Wish to meet you someday man. have a good one.
Thank you for the very kind words! Much appreciated man. Glad you've enjoyed the videos
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear more power to you ☺
Hey nice video man do you know what I would use to get the scuffs out of Georgetown three heeltabs???around the Jordan the navy blue part thanks
Finally something that works. I bought the old Matte finishing and it was really disappointing since it was a duller needed to get the Matte finishing wished. Let's try this. Also, I'm interested of using some spray finishing use in some custom shoes on CZcams.
This will get you right!
Whoa! That new matte by Angelus is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Sooo good!
Sheeeesh
Thank you sir!
Hola man, always me with the questions:
Currently i'm struggling a bit cause i can only apply it by brush..any tips on it? I will buy an aerograph but i have to find a good one on amazon italy..
Hi, i cant find your preferred tape in the link anymore, can you please recomend another one?
i used the Flat 4-coat for the first time yesterday and it was so AMAZING
It’s soo good!
Forgot I had a box of it sitting here, now I’m bout to try it out lol
You’re gunna love it bro
How high should the psi be when airbrushing the matt 4 coat
Thank you very much but I’ve been watching your videos for a couple weeks now and you cover everything but I do have one carious question if I were to use the matte 4-coat and then the finisher will the finisher make it shinny or is it j like a finish top coat
You would never have a reason to use the finisher on top of the 4-coat. It does everything the finisher does for you and more..
I love it, I want to learn it.....
Cant wait to get the angelus 4 coat product here in the Netherlands
Sooo good!
Hey first of all thanks for all your vids. I learned a lot from them. I just finished my first customs for my daughter. After she wore them once, I saw a little bit of cracking on them. What did you mean on your iceberg graphic regarding “drying time”? I figure I must have messed up somewhere but not sure where. I sanded and washed with acetone like you recommend. Not sure how much time I need to wait between paint coats. Maybe I didn’t wait enough.
The more wait time the merrier so the paint can actually bond… but at bare minimum you want at least 20 minutes !
Oh man. I guess I just need a little patience. Haha. Ok thanks!
This makes me happy!! I've been using Liquid Kicks, and it's good to see Angelus step up their game! And you can tell the difference more in the high gloss finishers. The matte finishers are definitely comparable.
Big time! Well said
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear
Hey Dillon..do you still require the duller if you use the matte 4 coat?

Hi! Thanks for the video. There are any difference on the look between 4 coat and the normal version? Or the end result looks the same?
Yes huge differences that we talked about in this video
Hi bro, to applying this 4 coat finisher with an airbrush, I'd have to add 2-Thin?
I don’t, but I have heard from many people that the 4coat won’t run through their airbrush without it
I was wondering if this finisher and the acrylpaint overall would work on let’s say cotton shoes, like Vans?? cant afford to start customizing w airforces 💀
Hey Dylan with the 4 coat matte finisher if you use it in the airbrush do you mix in 2 thin? Also how thick of a coat do you lay on and how many coats would you recommend with the finisher?
2 coats of the finisher is my usual recommendation. You shouldn’t need to use any 2thin, however many people have reached out any mentioned they were experiencing something similar. You might be able to turn up the psi on your compressor to get it to run more smoothly or I’m sure adding a small amount of 2thin won’t hurt
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear appreciate the feedback brother!
Hey, quick question regarding this new product! if I’m using the new matte finish on AF1 customs do i still need to use duller in my paint?
Im curious about it too
Would you also apply a 2-3 coats of Krylon matte finish spray over the 4-Coat matte finisher?
Nope 2 coats of the 4coat and you’re all set
What’s the difference between the 4 coat matte vs the no. 620 matte ?? And can we wash it with any product or must use angelus foam?
4 coat is a newer urethane based product. As long as the product was prepped and painted correctly you can clean anyway
How do you dry with a blowdryer? High heat and wind force? I applied my finisher but it hasn’t dry fully over 2 days
Finishers not dry? I can’t imagine what that would be. The only thing I can think of was that far too much was applied. It dries to the touch within an hour or so
Great review! But what do you use to clean your airbrush after using 4-coat since it’s a urethane clear coat? I’m assuming a regular cleaner won’t work since 4-coat isn’t water-based.
I’ve just used the angelus airbrush cleaner with it and haven’t had any issues !
Hey bro! Do you still need to use the duller to achieve that factory matte finish when you paint or you can just paint the shoe and then apply the 4 coat matte finisher?
Nope! No need for the duller anymore
Hello, I would like to ask, is it normal for the paint on the toe of the shoe to crack over time with normal use or if it can be prevented somehow? And the last question, can I use 4-coat instead of the classic finisher? Or what do you think is the best finisher? Thank you very much for your answer
The only way to prevent that is adding more coats/layers! toboxes are where the shoes bend and flex naturally so adding more layers prevents that from happening.
I truly appreciate you sharing all info and tips!
I would like to use the 4 coat on tooled leather wallet i made, so my question is that can i oil my wallet after using this product? Or it mask the leather the way oil cant be absorbed ! ?
Since its vegetable tanned leather it tends to dry up and needs to be waxed or oil every now and then !
It would be so kind of you to help me on this 🙏🏼🙌🏻
I wouldn’t be speaking from experience unfortunately. But on a near microscopic level you could think of the 4coat almost like a thin film layer on top of the artwork. So I’m not sure how that would impact the way the oils absorbed , but I imagine it would somehow
I just recently started customizing and I’ve been using a spray on finisher, is that a bad thing or just not the best option?
Which brand where you using? It’s not necesarily a bad thing as I previously used a spray finisher from Krylon for years.. sometimes it can be a bit harder with those to get the desired sheen you’re going for..
What do you clean the brushes with for the 4 coast satin?
I recommend applying it with an airbrush
Hey bro, I did a custom and at the end I used krylon matte finisher but I feel like I used too much / over sprayed and it turned my black into a dart greyish on the leather. Not sure what to do and could definitely use some advice!
So there’s a couple different things you can do. The long term best option if they’re gunna be worn is to strip off the paint and finisher and repaint… now depending on the design that may be an absolute nightmare.. the other option is to just paint over the finisher and then apply a new finisher on top. However this is much more likely to crack if they’re gunna be worn.. when it comes to krylon spray you always need to clear the can before spraying by spraying it upside down.. and shake it very well.
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you so much for the help brotha, going to go ahead and strip it all down and repaint since I definitely am planning on wearing them often. I appreciate it!!!
Could you tell me if anglelus finish work on polyurethane midsoles like an air max 95, or like an airmax command which both have soft cushion bottoms? I ordered some, and it's on the way, but if it doesn't is there a type of paint to use that won't crack? Or are softer bottom shoes doomed when it comes to repainting? If shoe companies can do it we should be able to as well.
No unfortuantely I don’t recommend ever paint rubber or midsoles in general as they’re just way way way more likely to crack
Hey jesus i have a question about airbrushing with 4-coat, so i always use the finisher with a airbrush never a brush and since the 4-coat is a bit thick i was wondering if you can use 2 thin to thin it out, thank for the reply in advance
Hi friend, when you apply the acrylic finisher, do you apply 2 thin? or it's only the finisher? thank you!
@@spiman33 sorry for the late reply im just now seeing this but no 2-thin just finisher
Can i use finisher 1 or 2 days later, if i already paint them?
Will that be a problem?
Nope not a problem
Are you recommending to still add 5-10% of the matte 4 Coat into the color paint? Or is is good enough to just use as a finisher and that will give a matte finish?
What? This is a finish not a duller lol
Do you mix the 4 coat with the paint or just apply layers after your done painting the shoes?
Just as a topcoat once painting is complete
thank you am for this video!
angelous says 2-3 coats and then dry for 24 hours? do you leave a set amount of time between each or?
At minumum I would recommend 30 minutes

Do you ever hold an airbrush class online?
Can you use Matte finisher on canvas instead of water and dust repellent spray?tnx

Thanks Master Customiser. Does this mean we have a product that allows midsoles to be painted?
No unfortunately , the issue that occurs with midsoles is that the paint wont bond with the rubber.. this wont have any impact on that.
Do you still recommend using duller with your colors and then applying the matte 4 coat?
Nope no need for the duller
Hello Dilon, if finishing a project I realize that my FINISHER will not reach me. Can I mix a MATTE with a SATIN? Or mix a SATIN Acrylic finisher with a SATIN 4-COAT? Assuming it's not optimal, can I save the situation? Thank you
No I wouldn’t mix the diffferent finishers.. you can mix the sheens like matte 4coat and satin 4coat, but I wouldn’t do satin 4coat and satin finisher
I had an issue when brushing it on it kinda gums up. I shook it well and this was a brand new brush. For context im applying on synthetix leather boxing gloves.
It really is best if you can apply with an airbrush! Otherwise the only thing I can guess without seeing the application would be applying too much. You really don’t need a lot
Hey so I used flat black angelus paint for my sneakers. I was wondering could I use the matte finisher on them to give them just a little more shine, or should I stick to the flat finisher since the paint was a flat black?
So flat finisher is actually even more “matte” than matte finisher.. so if you’re trying to bring back more sheen you would want to go in the opposite direction… I would either for with matte for the finish, or mix a bit of matte and satin together
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear thank you so much for the help! And keep up with the awesome vids!!!

@@DeJesusCustomFootwear appreciate the feedback. I may just brush on the 4 coat ones then. Just have to be careful brushing because it seems to want to pick up some of the underlying paint
which clear coat (out of the 4) is the best?
I don’t think you can say definitively one is better than the other as it’s just dependent on what you need for the project. I will say matte is my favorite forsure!
I've been having a little issue with the angelus 4-coat matte finisher, every time i clean my custom shoes little pieces of the finisher seem to peel/chip off, can i be doing something wrong or is that normal
Without knowing much kinda sounds like you 1. Might be rubbing too hard during your cleaning. Since it’s urethane based you esentially have a clear film on top of the shoes that’s helping protect the art.. if I had to guess you’re just removing the finisher and not any of the paint? If that’s true it shows the finisher is essentially doing it’s job.
Some other factors could be applying it too thick or not enough dry time between coats of finisher
@@DeJesusCustomFootwear it could be that a am rubbing to hard when cleaning. Yes it is only the finisher that is coming off. I only add 2 light coats and dry time of 20min in between each coat.
? Is these finishers recommended for suede dye? Reason I ask is because I dyed my wallabees, the maple brown and now the suede dye is smearing on my hands. I set them shoes in the sun to dry for a week now and the dye is still appearing on my hands. Is there a solution for this?
I haven’t worked on em before unfortunately, I don’t think finisher would be ideal for em, I’d probably try a krylon matte spray

But the 4 Coat Matte is too thick for the airbrush, what should I do?
I’ve never had any isssues. I know some people thin it out, but I’m sure to some degree you might effect it’s strength
Is the matte 4-coat basically an upgrade from the matte acrylic finisher or are they 2 totally different things?
It’s an upgrade that is not only much more matte, but it’s now urethane based so it provides a smidge more protection…

Correct no duller needed
Used the 4 coat for first time and had brush strokes that I’ve never had before with LK. Could it be the brush I used ?
Potentially, here’s a couple of things I’ve noticed.. you want to use a new synthetic hair paint brush… and you don’t want to over spread the finisher like you do with traditional painting.. you’re more so treating it as a glaze otherwise you’re essentially dragging the finisher while it’s drying causing those strokes
