My wife returned from work yesterday having had her work celebrate International Women's day, (never mind that it was the 7th of March, and Int. Women's Day is actually on the 8th). Her workplace had a female entrepreneur talk to the staff on strong women who needed to break stereotypes and concluded her talk with 'And now freebies - chocolate & makeup' undermining her own message by pandering to those very stereotypes.
The fact she was continually touting her own makeup business during the talk didn't go unnoticed. Neither did the 'entirely, 100% local products' with 'made in Korea' on the label (can't say exactly where we are, but it sure as fuck ain't Korea).

I think a lot of developers, and the entertainment industry, don't realise how easy it is to just not take part in the whole 'social justice' thing. I think they all have this fear that if they aren't actively participating in being diverse and what not that they are going to be targeted. All that is needed is something as simple as 'we're just making a game, we aren't trying to be political'. Once you start apologising and making concessions, that's when the problems begin. I didn’t know of them specifically but I did know these sorts of agencies were set up before DEI/ESG bs was even launched. It was like a pharmaceutical company ramping up a cure before the virus has even spread to the population. What frustrates me the most (besides these diverse characters being written to be as unlikable and mean-spirited as possible) is the blatant double standards. Imagine if Sweet Baby's CEO expressed hatred towards, say, lesbian black women. That company would be demolished overnight, completely blacklisted from the industry. An alarming number of people are either looking the other way or giving them a pass because it's straight white men they hate, as if it's okay because they're the majority. You're not championing diversity and inclusion if you make exceptions to the rule. Racism towards whites is still racism, sexism towards men is still sexism, and heterophobia is still phobia towards a sexual orientation. Just like how if a woman forces herself onto a man, it's still rape.

I worked in the games industry for many years. We were nearing the end of a project when our parent company brought in 'consultants' to review the content. They ended up cutting over 70% of the game. Due to tight deadlines and voice actors not being available the project ended up shipping in a sad state. It was miles below what it had been prior to the 'consultants' and the parent company complained that it under performed, well no shit. I can only imagine the damage the current round of consultants are inflicting on the industry.

Consultant companies are professional bullshitters. I work in anothher industry, we have been complaining about the IT infrastructure all the time but the management did not give a shit. Then they hired E&Y to do some consultant work and these E&Y assholes said something about DX, AI bullshit that requires hardware upgrades and charged hundreds of dollars. Just wow.

I remember my Dad telling me stories of how he had known co workers who were laid off randomly in the marketing department. At the time it was maybe 5-10 people All together with average salaries and then a year or so passed without any good marketing so the higher ups decided to hire consultants on how to advertise and market themselves better. They worked in the same building as my dad he saw a bunch of new people walking around and asked what was up and they said “oh hi we are consultants from * and we are here to help you guys with your marketing efforts!”
My dad flabbergasted obviously asks him how many people are on the project and for how long. Guy says I think in total about 10 or so and my supervisor and we are here for about 3-6 months depending on how well it goes. My dad then asks In a nice way after some convo how much consulting pays he’s thinking of getting into later in his career. Guy says “oh we make basically double or even triple what average workers make within companies they hire for our work. It’s a bit crazy honestly I’m new to consulting so I don’t even have much experience yet.”
My dad was not mad at this guy who was just doing his job but he went to his manager red faced and reamed out the higher ups and basically asked how they would even possibly think getting rid of the marketing department all of whom were good and experienced people and hiring consultants that cost 2 to 3 times their yearly salaries was a good idea and that they literally created the problem they are solving in a more expensive and convoluted way.
His Manager, who’s been there 20ish years looks at my dad and says “first time?” My dad always tells me that story HAHAHA. I hate consulting companies they can be useful when transitioning to actually large and complicated areas but most companies just throw them at the wall it seems like.
The fact Sweetbaby still refuses to acknowledge they screwed up and are in the wrong, is just so indicative of how entitled many companies and people are today. Like they believe they are owed success regardless of what they do and then blame everyone except themselves when they don't succeed.

Let me make this clear. I will not only boycott SBI, I will boycott any company that works with them.
There is a clip out there of Sweet Baby Inc’s CEO giving a talk (at GDC I believe) in which she explains how she tells her company to essentially extort developers into using their services. Something like ‘If we (SBI) face any pushback from a developer, just go to the management and “terrify them” by saying how social media will rip them to pieces if they don’t implement our changes to their game.’
It’s the most obvious racket I’ve ever seen and she’s just openly admitting it.
Shame nobody with balls has gotten into management positions in triple-A gaming companies.
