Photographing boring places - A mindset

In this video I go over some of my own thoughts and struggles about photographing boring places. Constantly battling the mindset that the place I live in is too "boring" and that there are countless better places I could be photographing.
This video is something new for me. The whole point of me making these videos is to explore a new medium. I look forward to hearing your feedback on this style of video!

I don't know man...I lived in a tiny town in Arizona. People didn't like their photos taken and they let that be known. Over a period of 24 years I had taken all the photos there that I could. That really was not an excuse. I was so bored with the environment and I was always unmotivated to take photos unless I traveled someplace else. I ended up moving to Lexington, Kentucky and it was the best decision I ever made. I am always taking photos and I am always inspired. The environment you're in can have a pretty negative effect on you if you don't want to be there. All the gurus say the same thing...That wasn't the case for me.

I can 100% agree with that sentiment! I've felt very similarly but sometimes you're faced to make the best with what you have. it sounds like you just wanted that change bad enough that you made it happen and that's awesome! I myself am in a place where I can only afford to make due with what I have and can only achieve that change through temporary means and that's what I wanted to get at, you have the choice to make the best of a situation, find temporary fixes or in your case more permanent ones! I'm glad you were able to make that change for yourself!

I’ve lived in many locations around the US over the past 40+ years, my favorite being Hawaii for ten years. I am back in flat, boring Kansas with zero “decent” landscape or other interesting subject matter. Somehow I need to get out of my own head about my dissatisfaction with my surroundings and try to see things with a creative eye once again. Having any level of disdain for where we are will kill desire to photograph it. So true. .. back to macro I go, for now.

I can relate here I used to live in my city which same btw and moved to a smaller rural town. The environment has take on your creativity but otherwise I agree it's an excuse to make art and get out there.kudos
