LOUDER Warzone Footsteps w/ EQUALIZER APO

- In this video I walk you through how to get better warzone footstep audio by using Equalizer APO and the Auto EQ Project. We also use a free VST Audio Compressor to reduce the overall dynamic range of the game audio, and in turn make footstep audio louder and more discernable.

Note: I just want to make one thing clear, at the 2:40 mark. If you are using a GOXLR, DAC, or other external output source, you DO NOT need to click on "Install using SFX/EFX". You DO however need to complete the install process on whatever your output source is, you just don't need to click on the troubleshooting option. At any point in time if you need to install or uninstall from a particular output source. Just go to Program Files>Equalizer APO>Configurator and click on or off the check boxes.
Correction: The first time the configuration editor opens, it wont be blank; It will show 3 items: Preamplification, Include, & Graphic EQ. Delete all 3 by clicking the red minus icon on the left. Then follow my instructions.
Tip: As I state in the video, you can adjust the two peaking filters to your liking. Specifically the one at 270hz, I recommend fine tuning to that to your liking anywhere from 100hz to 270hz.

Hello I am Using a Soundblasterx G5 and Beyerdynamic MMX300, for mixing the voicemeeter Potato. I installd the apo on Output A1 and on the sb output device. The sound is strange… very dull and reverberant. How can i fix that issue ?
I use a G633 headset.... I have some Realtek options available. So do i Do the APO stuff on the Realtek speaker or on my Headset? I cant wrap my head around all this tech savvy stuff....
I setup my equalizer APO twice. It seems that every time I turn off my PC and come back a few hours or even a day later I can't open the APO, also TDR will not open I'm my editor.
I installed APO and Peace GUI but cannot open APO by itself? I tried searching for the file but it just runs the installer APO again, any suggestions? Is there a way to open Peace GUI with audio plugins?

Dude I have searched countless hours for equalizer APO settings for various fps games...none of them really wowed me til today. I knew it would from the get go because your the only person that had everyone get their headsets to a baseline eq in order for the filters to work properly....every other game audio youtuber is just throwing out random eqs and half of them arent even telling people "this is pretty meaningless to you because we have different headsets" lol everything you've said was backed by numbers! If you make more of these vids for other fps games i promise that you'll make a lot of people happy. Keep up the good work!!!!

very nice video presentation - instead of restarting the computer - there are ways to restart the windows audio service using the command line - or the services control panel
and you can make a shortcut to the commands
net start audiosrv
net stop audiosrv
in a .cmd file
on the properties of the shortcut - select advanced - start as administrator

Just found this video, amazing stuff! I did try doing something similar myself but apparently APO is too complicated for me and I made a mess haha!
Re footsteps frequency, I have watched another quite popular video and the person there exports sound clips from the game of people walking and has noted that there are some footsteps at 60-ish Hz and mainly in the range of 125-190. I was wondering if these ranges are something you might have checked yourself previously? I am going to go with all the settings in this video, but also wondering if there might be some frequencies to better amplify the footsteps - especially considering the multiple updates the game has had so far.
Also, on that note, they did work on that issue (footsteps sound) and they apparently adjusted - for NPCs only, not real players!
Glad you enjoyed the video. The most difficult part about EQing for footsteps is that they cover such a wide range of the frequency spectrum. So it becomes a channel trying to decide which frequency is going to sound the best amplified. I think In the future I will release an updated version. My current settings are a high pass filter after the graphic eq with the frequency cutting off everything below 50 hz. Then my two peaking filters set to 240hz with a gain of 5 db and 700hz with a gain of 5db.

I would remove any eq settings on your Mixamp pro or just use whatever neutral setting they have. As far as Dolby Atomos surround sound, I would turn that off. I havent personally used it with these settings so you will have to experiment with that.
This guide is really awesome, and I can definitly tell a huge difference.
Although - I do feel it squashes the rest of the sounds a bit much (feeling I can't hear directions as well, and distant gunshots are hard to distinguish).
So let's say I don't want to squish it as much as the "other" sounds are now, what do I touch?

If you raise your attack a bit to about 12-15 ms it will allow those transients to come through more

how would this be setup on a dual pc setup with mixamp and goxlr? i installed it on my gaming pc.
game pc > to goxlr > to mixamp
i set everything in command center to 0 (this is best way to "turn off eq") and i can hear the game and the footsteps but theres a tunnel like sound, could be the under water effect mentioned below.
It would be incredible if you could do this for Escape From Tarkov, although it would be a much bigger task considering all of the different audio related gameplay mechanics in that game.
By any chance do you play Shatterline? Could you maybe guide us through a eq setting for that as well

@GWOK Hmm do you know why I keep hearing an echo in Warzone with your settings? Any help is much appreciated overall I can hear pretty good though minus the echo. Mostly outside when shots go off etc... this is when the echo starts. I followed the exact instructions you showed.
hmmmm I’m not sure why you would be hearing an echo. Sounds like you have your output sound doubled somewhere
Great video. Does the compressor add more latency than sound lock?
I have not noticed any distinguishable latency. I don’t like soundlock because it’s a limiter, not a compressor. I was not happy with my results using it.
I have a question: my friend and I just installed and followed this tutorial, and when we first started playing in Tarkov, it worked great. But when we went into our first raid, my friend instantly crashed within a couple minutes.
He reconnected and crashed again a few minutes later, then got killed by a scav when he was reconnecting.
The next raid, he and I both instantly crashed at the exact same time. We both turned off the compressor, and closed the application, (my friend uninstalled it but I didn’t), and we didn’t crash anymore.
Has anyone else had issues with their Escape From Tarkov crashing after using this?
And any recommendations?

i trully dont understand for dual pc my headset is connected to an ampplifier wich is connected to goxlr that is connected tostreaming pc , it works only if i set the capturecard but then i hear a background noise . any help for my weird setup ?> i dont what to chose from my list in my case

so now having a config file for both my microphone and my speakers, i cant have them both working at the same time. when i turn my speaker eq config on then my mic no longer picks up in discord but when i turn the speaker eq config off then my mic starts picking up again. any idea on what is causing this?

great video.... this has always been a problem for me with the sound.......... should the spatial sound be disabled in the systems sound settings.........I assume yes
I have not experimented using the spatial sound setting. I would turn it off.

The eq settings were very good but the compressor makes quite footsteps quieter I don't think it works on a game that already compresses footsteps together with the bass and mid range.

I have beyerdynamic dt990 250ohm with a schiit stack (dac+amp). This setup made my sound off like it’s muffled a little bit. Any chance you would know what could be causing that?
Try lowering the threshold of the compressor and adjusting the make up gain

follow my steps in the video. In the configurator screen in Equalizer APO, Install and select your sound blaster as your playback device. In the sound blaster software disable the EQ and any other settings so that you have a clean signal coming through.
For the vst plugging, it's saying "Library could not be loaded" what does that mean?

i have a pair of astro a50s - as i have astro command centre and its own custom EQ is there anyway to bypass this and only use Equaliser APO?
You should still be able to have Astro Command center running. That’s not a problem. You just need to make sure that you have all of your EQ Presets turned off or set to zero in Command Center. You don’t want it applying any effects to your signal.
Anyone having issues with EqualizerAPO crashing when trying to install the TDR Kotelnikov plugin, just move the plugin into ?\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\VSTPlugins and then open it from there in EqualizerAPO.
Restart your pc will help you ti fix it.

After the Graphic EQ you should have added two peaking filters. Did you do that correctly? one at 270 and the other at 700?

I had this too, in the analysis panel make sure that the "Start from" field is set to "current file". On first install, it will show as config.txt. Change that, you'll see the peaks

dont forget to config your sound profile considering your personal hearing loss!
another thing you need to watch out when using equalizer apo software: the more points of reference you set on your variable EQ band, the more sound delay you will get. With the preset from git for your headphones, you have over 100 custom EQ points, wich will bring your sound latency down +50-100ms!
if you only listen to music, thats fine, but if you do gaming, you better off making a rough sound eq with max 20-30 eq points, so you have max. +10ms
a true gamer can feel the difference in 10 or 100 ms!...
btw, your vst plugin is not the best, there are way better ones out there. usually you need 2. one vst for the highpitch fliter and one for the low pitch boost
Don't use graphic EQ, stay with parametric. It has 5-10 EQ points max and is more precise than graphic EQ.

Nahimic (comes preinstalled with the sound driver of multiple prebuilds - MSI in particular) has a feature doing above - automatically - as in "Sound Tracker". Apparently, having than Enabled - could get you Banned. This, it's just a matter of time - till they flag this workaround as well - banning everyone using it. So...
