@@dragoninstalling5446it surprises me Tauros fell off since Hyper Beam recharge was there till Gen 5, when as we all know, it took the power of the three genies to nerf it
My own unique opinion on Nintendos Pokemon franchise and they amazing Fourth Generation Pokemon Platnium, and its SMOGON online Competitive Over Used bracket has been updated as of today September 6th 2023! Thanks Cowboy BKC.
My takeaway from all of these videos, after hours upon hours of research, is that I am entirely hopeless at teambuilding. I know it's common knowledge that it is a difficult talent to fine tune, but honestly it is a herculean task. I could very well master differential calculus before understanding how to put 6 pocket monsters together coherently in a children's video game. Amazing.
meanwhile im a good teambuilder and i probably "mastered" it *after* i got a masters degree in maths so... checks out. didnt do a ton of differential calculus tho
A lot is just trial and error though. Your first version of any team will always have flaws, you play the team and iterate through different small changes to eventually find a good combination of pokemon and moves. Of course a lot of it is also knowing the meta, but trial and error is the true essence of a good team.
Advice from a novice like me is to keep building and testing! I still find it very overwhelming but I also find that I've gotten much better at identifying and patching up weaknesses after testing. Building teams for multiple generations and tiers has also helped me learn about my own style of play and the kinds of mons I'm comfortable with, practice always makes perfect
18:30 yeah, people definitely forget that there are three types of viability - absolute, relative, and meta - that all simultaneously play a role in the mon's final viability. Absolute never changes at all, Relative isn't necessarily that impactful (like machamp vs. hariyama, hari's absolute viability is high enough that running it for the seismic resist subs or a fire resist can be worth it simply because you're not making yourself use an unmon if those aspects dont apply to the current game), and Meta is just that, metagame dependent, things becoming better or worse as the result of the current popularity and perceived viability of things
Video idea: what if Fairy type clefable was added to BW OU? A magic guarder with a Draco immunity would have to reshape the tier, I imagine. In the scenario I imagine, it's the *only* fairy in the game, and it keeps its gen 5 movepool (so no moonblast), but whatever makes for a more interesting conversation
i just wanna say one thing i love about your videos is how positive you are about each pokemon and its role in whatever metagame you're talking about. if you have any biases against playstyles or strats i certainly havent noticed (gen 5 ou notwithstanding) it is very refreshing to have that kind of positivity in a community where voices of dissent can definitely get to be a bit overbearing at times, which is definitely something ive definitely been guilty of in the past
i love latias versatility, both offensive and defensively. ive run weirdly good sets like grass knot, hp fire, surf, tbolt just for threat on specific mons and pivot around
I really like agility metagross. It helps knowing I have ghosts out of the way (looking at you, rotom..) so I can boom after spamming mash and never getting that +1 but still balling because boom
Would love to see a seperate vid going over who you think is C+ and below out of those you left out and what potential sets you feel could work for them. Aka a dpp shitmon tier list
I agree with most, i just think rose is should be B not B-, its a very solid lead with dual hazards and status and a good mid game spiker cuz either tentacruel or starmie wouldn't want to eat her leaf storms with hazards up
One of the more notable comments regarding Latias' suspect test in DPP was that her presence in the standard metagame was "underwhelming" in a metagame with t-tar with bulky steels predominantly running the metagame to keep certain offensive threats in check but it seems like Latias in DPP OU has been more than pulling its own weight.
as someone who joined the competitive scene in gen 8, the phrase "toxic cripples gliscor" really hit me out of nowhere before i remembered that it didn't get poison heal until gen 5

Fun fact: This video is only 4 minutes shorter than Minions: The Rise of Gru
It’s effectively longer than the film when you take out the credits.

BKC: “Viability rankings shouldn’t be taken too seriously”

only 1.5 hour long video isn't very serious for BKC

Wouldn’t we also have the other previous gen Pokémon that became Fairy Types, like Azumaril, Gardevoir, and Whimsicott?
