best Batocera tutorial out there. Nicely done.
Thanks you for sharing your time and helping us. By following this video i was abble to install a lot af retro games. Perfect !
Thanks for your time on this video. I love batocera on my steam deck alot more than steam os since I mostly just use it for retro gaming anyway. What a amazing front end.
Batocera is not a front end.
Its a whole OS. 👍
Awesome tutorial ! cant wait to try to install Batocera ! Thanks a lot, very helpful
Thanks for the info and detailed guide
Glad that it helped!
Awesome Professional Tutorials Video
Epic video btw pretty dope differences from emu deck and retroarch
Awesome video!!!
Thanks!!
This is awesome! great video, thanks! One thing I am interested in seeing is I wonder if I can play games like the wii using the steam decks touchpad as a curser for the movement control.
Thanks a ton!
Glad that it helped.
Great video. Is there a big performance difference when using Batocera vs Emudeck?
The best
Anyone know how to open the Batocera file manager on the Deck?
I installed mugen street fighter HD on my steam deck, but I can't go pass the title screen cause non of the buttons is start. How can I fix this? plz help me. Can I edit the controller configuration from mugen.cfg? I found it but I don't what I should change
The "flash" process keeps messing up my formatted sd card.
During the validating step it asks me to format in the middle of it instead of upon completion, I hit cancel, and it then shows that the flash process has failed at the end. Then the micro sd card is unusable until I unplug it and then plug it back in.
Then it splits into a Batocera 6gb drive and another drive that asks to be formatted again. This bug keeps happening again even after completely formatting the micro sd card and deleting the split drives...
Thank you for the tutorial and merry Christmas. I've got a problem when trying to copy rom from my thumb drive to batocera. I get an error that the folder is read-only and can't change this on the preference tab of the folder. Any ideas? Thank
hi i just want ask ...i just installed Batocera in SD 2 days ago.. but almost all emulator cannot play that game even mame nes or snes lol.. just psx and ps2 is fine.. what's that problem ? i already updated all that latest v35 bios already.. is that i need to download those emulator separate and manual install ? thanks
Appreciate the video, helps a bunch...
One question, I have Batocera 36, went to archive, typed in "Batocera 36 bios" and no results. Maybe 36 already includes the necessary files?
Bstocera 36 is still in Beta version. Once it becomes final, then the Bios files are released on Archive.org.
Really struggling to install windows games on the Steam Deck version but they did work on my mini pc?
Any way you can show how to put save files in the gba save folders
Will the controls on the deck itself be included in future updates?
I can't seem to get WiFi to work on batocera 36 beta.
is there a way to still use Batocera 35 beta?
I installed batocerta 36 and get a distorted image when booting. Anyone have this issue? Works fine after, although sometimes boots to steam and says verifying steam installation.
I've been enjoying batocera on my deck for a while with my own basic image but recently purchased a 1tb ssd to add a 512gb pre made image and then to add to that just to save myself some time. It all works great but It only allows me to use the size of the image so I am missing out on the other 500 odd gb. l know with retropie it allowed you to expand the filesystem to access the whole size of the card after you burned an image. Is there any way I can do this with batocera ? Thanks. Edit. I found out how to do it. Now to really enjoy it with all the bells and whistles.
Hi! Now that batocera for steam deck beta version ended, how do I update it to the new version without erasing all my roms from the sd card when flashing new version?
If its same as PC just update within Batocera. Dont flash as new or you will delete everything
Go to updates and downloads and select stable option.
It will then download and update from beta to stable. (If theres one available)
No need to flash as new.
None of your roms will be deleted this way(always keep back up though ofcourse)
Only if you flash as new image.
Ofcourse I cannot confirm this on steamdeck but thats how you can do it on X86 and even other devices.
i like your case
anybody know where I can put the naomi gd roms in the sd card and play it?
How long would the battery last if using just Batocera?
Any diff to Steam and how long would that be either way?
Hi guys, I've got everything running perfectly on my deck, however when Iaunch Botw it asks for an update, how do we update wii u games? I have the update but unsure how to install.
Hi! Thanks for your guide :) I need one more information. Must the SD card for Batocera be formatted in a special file format? Or does it also boot with an SD card formatted via Steam Deck and the format ext4?
In other words: Can you use one and the same SD card (with the ROMS and BIOS) for both: EmuDeck and Batocera or do I need two SD cards? One formatted by SteamDeck (ext4) for EmuDeck and one formatted with rufus to boot Batocera?
Which file format will rufus "create" on the sd card?? AFAIK will EmuDeck need ext4 ...
They both use ext4, when you flash the batocera image on a sd card it will create some partitions. It's possible to have one sd card with rooms and then link it to the roms folder of batocera.
I wiped out my SSD on my steam deck and just use strictly for batocera. Best ultimate retro handheld.
Thanks so much for this so good for myself as a beginner. Just one question. the batocera bios you downloaded from internet archive does this contain the bios for all systems or do these need downloaded separately?
yes
All of them at once.
You only really need to update bios files packs when Batocera adds new systems to emulate that needs bios files, or Batocera changes something that needs additional bios files for some reason.
So any updates only may add addition bios files, its not like there are new ps1 bios files, ps2 bios files etc
Its the same ones we always used.
If you know what I mean
Another great vid from the man in the know 😁👍
I dont need a Steam Deck though, I have a PS7000 with Batocera and it can happily run 'most' Atari 2600 games at full speed 😇😁😉☺️
……
Seriously though its an odd system.. Well.. With Batocera on anyway, even with simpler systems many games run fine while some games dont boot at all or cause the screen to flicker and crash like its to taxing on the system, this is with simpler systems even, very odd.
I also noticed that some games that dont boot in Batocera work on the stock OS..again odd.
Surely that means Batocera isnt fully optimized for the PS7000..yet.. Well it ever? Who knows.
But Id still rather run Batocera on it cause we can play more systems that the stock OS, and of course with Batocera we have wonderful extras like themes, bezels, shaders etc and the great overall UI.
..testing continues… 😊
Hi Fonzi! Gotta save those pennies to get the $399 version. The Steam Deck is the ultimate Batocera handheld console. Valve has done a great job. And when compared to the other PC based handhelds from China, the Deck is a steal!
@@BatoceraNation
Yeah I know its the one Id pick.
Just for Batocera and emulation.
Not interested in PC games and Steam on it.
So for me it'd be OK with an internal install.
However its not available in Aus yet officially and even though there are ways around that Im still not ready to pay even that amount for a handheld.
Batocera on dedicated PC is still priority for me as well anyway.
Hey I'd it possible to flash this as a main os?
folks. i followed the instructions on scummvm but batocera just isn't picking up the games. could i have messed up without realising?
I'm having issues with the bezels. They seem to be in 16:10 compared to 16:9 so the bezels are getting cut off. Any ideas how to fix this?
On the steam deck?
The steam deck has a 16:10 aspect ratio screen so I presume they set to fit.
So bezels would be shorter than a 16:9 screen.
can batocera run in dockmode (using monitor), how?
Yo man. Could you do a tutorial on setting up Nintendo DS on Batocera please?
Oh and don't forget Turbo-graft 16 that's CD because I would like to play Castlevania Rondo of Blood there.
after i did everything on the 1tb sd, when i try to copy roms it says the sd card does not have enough space even though i have put no roms in it yet. is process not creating the partition large enough?
After flashing it did you let it boot into Batocera once ? It should then expand and create the userdata/share partition.
After that you should be able to transfer files over.
Batocera black screen everytime I try to boot it up says loading them just black screen
Is anyone else having issues with PSP (ppsspp) breaking their L1 button? When I launch a PSP game, it creates a gamecontrollerdb.txt file at system/configs/ppsspp that breaks everything so bad, I can't even use L1 in the batocera system itself, it just stops working. Also batocera won't shutdown, I have to hold the power button and force it.
does it not read chd files? i have my games in chd and none show up
Can I get Batocera on the Steam Deck UI for PC
Is it possible to do this process ALL ON THE DECK?
Is there a way to set the power button on the Steam Deck on Batocera to sleep mode instead of turning off the Deck? I really enjoy the sleep function on SteamOS and am wondering if something similar is possible on Batocera.
CZcamsr : honosuseri Search him. 6 minute mark he says how this can be done.
@@tothepoint4334 On which video?
Hello Guys, I need your help!
I want to boot Batocera from an external micro sd card. Is it possible to link some games from the internal steam deck storage to the share folder of the external sd card?
Greeting and nice tutorial like always btw.
Anyone else having an issue with the Daphne Emulator not recognizing controllers other than the built in Steam Deck controller? Everything else works beautifully!
I have this already installed on steam deck and was wondering am I going to need to reflash this when it's out of beta or will it use the update features built in the app? 👍
I dont own the steamdeck but if its like Batocera on other OS's the update option within Batocera has an option that lets you update to stable or beta versions.
So no, you shouldnt have to flash as new.
Just update to whatever there.
@@fonzitheman ah good thanks it's my first time using Batocera
Fonzi is correct. Built in feature should do the trick.
@@BatoceraNation cheers buddy
Wii u games don't launch at all for me. Says unable to launch game and then the name.
when I flash the batocera img to 1tb sd card finished , and I check the 1tb sd card , it become a 5.98gb sd card, and o ly have 2gb left,
After flashing boot into Batocera once, this expands and creates the userdate/share partition, but it will be in ext4 file format by default which windows cannot read.
@@fonzitheman thanks so much

Hope you get it working OK. 👍
wish you showed us how to add the bios files
Cemu (Wii U) Sound? Thanks for the helpful video! You must have put a lot of hard work into this. I installed the Cemu emulator on the deck. It works fine except for sound. I can't get sound in any of my Cemu games despite trying several settings adjustments. I'd love it someone in the community could help with the sound issue. Thanks!
Download the latest Beta version. It's working now. Go to your Main Menu then Choose "Updates and Downloads". Choose Update Type, choose Beta. Then Start Update.
@@BatoceraNation Thanks. I did this and it is now working! Cheers
Glad you got it working.
having issues with the steam controller on Wii games. It doesn't work
Just got my Steam Deck OLED and I tried to follow this guide. Ran into three issues. Two I was able to figure out and the third, not. First issue was that I didn't know how to get to the menu page. This is not explained in the video. Second issue was that the display was turned 90 degrees, but I figured out I had to go to screen rotation in the menu (after figuring out how to get there) and reset the rotation from "Auto" to 90 degrees. The third issue I haven't solved yet, getting the Steam Deck under Batocera to see any WiFi networks at all. When running under Steam OS, no problem. When running Batocera, it can't see any networks, even if I manually enter my network SSID and password. Frustrating as hell.
Nice video dude..just my problem..how to exit from the game..and back to batocera desktop?😅
Is a 128gb card good enough to install some games?
How Do you FLASH Batocera ON A NVME SSD
Batocera supports NTFS, so you can remove that 2nd partition with Disk Manager and create an NTFS partition (filling the rest of the SD card) and copy files over from Windows.
Yeah, you can just format the share partition to NTFS or exfat even, then boot Batocera and it will create the folder structure on the formatted partition as new Then it's easy to transfer file over using windows explorer yes .
I have my RGB10 Max set up this way but prefer to stick with the default ext4 format for my X86 64 devices. (PC).
Cause there are reasons why they prefer to use ext4 as the default for the share folder.
Check the wiki as to why.
Having said that however I have used NTFS on PC in the past with no major issues
For Steam deck Id imagine it's the same.
@@fonzitheman Thanks, checked it out and I guess I never used those options. But good to know in case I run into issues.
Does this have a way of adding cheats on steam?
One thing to note. I did the full install and setup solely on the steam deck when I did it two weeks ago with no issues.
I just updated v36 beta this morning mame works but now it seems every system is playing choppy? In every system even if apply the performance tweaks?
Yes I also updated to V36 beta version, libretro ppsspp doesn't work anymore
Download the latest version which just came out.
Yeah just did it this morning still the same which i believe the first update fix mame then this morning don't know what it fix but it still choppy
Use regular PPSSPP. It's working well on my Steam Deck.
I’m unable to get my windows 11 pc to connect to my steam deck by typing in the ip
Address of my steam deck in file explorer.
Do I need to install a driver or something else to get it to connect? Thank you for the in-depth video!! I’ve been a follower for a while and your videos are the best on CZcams when it comes to Batocera tutorials.
I figured it out. Before you can transfer files, you must Enable Network sharing. Please add this to your next video. Thanks again.😊
Enable Network sharing in Windows? Want to make sure that's what you meant. But thanks for the suggestion.
@@BatoceraNation yes this worked. Thank you.
Let me add to this, there is a network settings within batocera when you boot into it. Within network settings, it will show you ip address , internet status , hostname and if the wifi is enabled. If your connected using network jack, you'll see ur ip address. Then in windows just type \\ and your ip address so it will look like \\192.xxx.x.x or type in your host name.. \\batocera and hit enter. Thank you for this video. ;) cheers
DiskGenius is what i use for transfering in windows to the sd or harddrive you installed Batocera too,it reads the partitions, quickest way on windows.
Does it read the Batocera microsd card (the Share partition and the Boot partition)? If it does, has it ever corrupted the Share partition?
@@BatoceraNation it does indeed
and i have been using it for the last 2 years with no problems.
I downloaded the pro version 5.4.1 from the usual place, also you can rip the roms from the linux images.
Ive used disk genius as well to transfer roms but sometimes noticed when I booted Batocera the roms werent there, checked with disk genius and indeed they were gone so Id have to do it again. Odd.
Another option is to format the share partition to ntfs or whatever the other options are, boot Batocera again and it will create the folders needed again but this time you can transfer files over using windows explorer.
The Batocera wiki even mentions this, that you can use a diff file system than ext4,however it comes with its own issues thats why ext4 is the default and recommended.
On my PC set up I still use ext4 though ,press F1 and trasnfer files over that way as BN does in his vids.
But on my Powkiddy RGB10 Max and PS7000 Im using NTFS for the share partition.
Hi I transferred some Gamefiles from an ntfs formatted usb drive to batocera as shown in the video. When I closed batocera all game files and bios had been deleted. What am I doing wrong?
Even downloaded themes from within batocera have been wiped. I have no idea why.
@@dawve30
On the Steamdeck?
Did you update gameslists after transfering?
Hi, yes on steam deck, I updated the game lists and everything was working. I downloaded themes and scrapped box art etc. when I next started up the steam deck nothing I had done remains.
I tried again this morning just downloaded a few themes, entered my Wi-Fi data. Nothing saves.
@@dawve30
Dont know whats going on there. Odd.
Are you using a legit brand micro sd card like samsung or sandisk?
Not a cheap generic no name one, as these are usually fake and corrupt your data.
I dont have a steamdeck myself, sorry I cant help further.
How do i install games?
Why not just put batecera on a external device and have it boot up the .exe as a non steam game? Rather than use the boot menu?
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Kinda helpful besides the jumping around from one thing to another and for some reason none of the games will stay on the SD but the software will...
You can't have your SD while in Windows since it reset everything. Just copy your games while in Batocera. The Dock is useful for this.
@@BatoceraNation that's what I did...

Yes!
How do you install in internal?
In System Settings there is an option for that.
