Got my Steam Deck today and this was literally the first thing I did. I'm more interested in using it for emulators.
It runs everything perfectly, amazing device!
If you are mostly interested for emulation and not for Steam, then soon I will be providing a tutorial on how to install Batocera to the internal Deck's hard drive and install Steam OS on a microSD. It's pretty cool!
@@BatoceraNation that does sound cool. Hopefully you can compare to some slow titles in this video and see if any improvement is made doing it
@@proceduralgames Installing Batocera on the internal drive will only improve load times but it won't improve the performance of slower titles (i.e. the heavy PS3 games) since that's a GPU and CPU issue.
@@emanuelburgos246 I thought emulators might stream data from storage while in the game but admittedly that was an assumption.
Once I started using my Deck for Emulation, I havent played a single steam game since.
I seem to be having audio channel issues with amiga but its really cool, you mentioned this in your video :)
Batocera is the perfect addition to the steam deck if you want to keep your library clean. Loving it
F-ing love it. Just ordered my steam deck. And this makes the wait so much longer ^_^
Great video, can’t wait for your updated switch tutorial, got ps1, ps2 and psp set up on Batocera Jsut need switch games to complete my setup! 👍🏾
It's coming!
yes! thanks for all the hard work from the developers.
They're the best!
Great video, as always.
Cheers
Thanks!
Thank you for the great video cant wait for the yuzu tutorial

Awesome Video!!
Outstanding. I just got the order email today for mine.
You'll love it!
Awesome ... YES i want to this from day 1 😎
Wicked is in the house 😁
@@fonzitheman Yeah i'm here ... i'm everywhere 🤣🤣
The steam Deck is awesome. I Just got mine at the beginning of this month!
I got mine a couple of weeks ago. My door to purchase almost closed without me buying it UNTIL Nicolas told me he was working on it. I then pulled the trigger and bought one just in time for Batocera.
Thansk for the video, how do you have the option to select Vulcan and for me its just not there on FZero GX. Becuase mine is definitely running with a lot of glitches and im thinking it might be that? IS there something you need to change in settings to make that option available? One more thing, ive noticed Audio channels are missing on the amiga emulation (testing 500 model games), so only parts of the audio tracks are playing. Is this just a bug for now? Thanks! :)
Hey, Thanks for the video. I’ve been running through all the main emulators getting them set up. I’ve had some trouble with Citra. I’ve been trying to find a guide online to help me with just general shortcuts, savestates, etc. I was wondering if you knew how to create savestates or go into a citra menu without a keyboard, just by using the buttons on the steam deck.
Hello, first of all, thank you for this great video. I have a question, I can choose vulkan only on Wii U or PS2, I can't choose graphic API on the other system. Do you have any idea ? Thank you.
Same! No Api select option on deck
Not all emulators support Vulkan. If they do, the option will be there.
@@BatoceraNation i dont have that option at same emulators as you do.. PPSSPP etc
Haven't watched ya vid yet but going by your description you havent mentioned anything about Dreamcast or Saturn?
Will the steam deck run them perfectly in at least native? and theyre on the raspberry pi 400 batocera so why not here?
Again, i havent watched the vid yet as just dont have the time at the moment so just going by your description
Oh yes. It's understood that it runs the low end emulation perfectly. I was aiming for the high end emulation which not all PC systems can do.
Can you help with how to set up the steam deck controllers for when playing Wii games through Batocera please? Games run fine, but most of the time it is asking for the original Wii controller to play stuff…. Pikmin 2 being one of them.
czcams.com/video/iBCDPbgQR4I/video.html
Can we use multiple storage options to expand the storage connected at the same time for Batocera? Like have a usb hub and connect an external hard drive with the micro SD card and the steam deck with one or more sd cards connected using usb hub?
For xbox emulator on Batocera Steam Deck eeprom it uses by default is set to French language so you can edit the eeprom and change language to English.
Hi. How did you get the steam deck controller to work on rpcs3. I have selecred Evdev from handlers but xbox360 controller does not show on Devices. Thank you
Is multiplayer on Wii-U working while docked? This was something I struggled with in SteamOS, I could use it with the deck controls and 1 external controller, but if I docked it and tried using 2 external controllers, it wouldn't work, it only recognized one of them.
It should work since Batocera supports multiple controllers. I haven't tried on WiiU. I have tried it on Wii with success.
Does this version of batocera also run on regular PCs? Like if I play on steam deck then put the MicroSD card in my desktop pc will it run as well?
Hello, perhaps a dumb question, but once you run a game, how do you go back to the Batocera main menu? For some reason the only way I can, is by shutting down the steam deck and once again stating everything from the boot menu option :(. Also how can we save progress 😢. Thx love your videos
Select and start at same time is the default button press to exit a game and go back to the game selection screen.
I have multiple questions. 1: does it come with its own games? 2: what type of microsd card should I get? 3: what did you use to get the stuff onto the microSD card?
I will be answering these questions soon in a video. We've had a number of new Steam Deck fans join our channel. Will be addressing these and more questions soon.
I'm still new to this. How do you install games after I stalling the emulator?
We’re you able to get a Wiimote connected via Bluetooth? Would love to run MAME light gun games on my deck.
I have no audio with CEMU (wii u) on batocera steam deck, I tried all audio output options to no avail. Can someone please help? Every other emulator works just fine...
Can Batocera run games on the SD card and Internal drive at the same time? I'm using Batocera on the 1tb SD card which is almost full and I see a juicy 466 Gigs on the internal drive of the steam deck not getting used.
Just added this to my deck, works great. Struggle a little with scraping as it doesn’t get videos. Any ideas how to get the videos for each game?
Try different scrapers within Batocera.
Or, you could create a rom folder on your PC, make rom folders the same as they are named in Batocera, put your roms in the folders and use PC version of ScreenScraper and customize what you want there for scraping.
After you are done simply copy or move over all the files in each folder to the rom folders in Batocera.
I have used this method when I needed too.
usually when you have an issue with scraping, its because your roms are not named correctly. You can use the program "bulk rename utility" to quickly fix naming issues.
Tutorial please! Just got my notification that I could order; Curious to see how long it’ll take to arrive to my door.
How can I change control mapping for model 3 roms (on steam deck)? I can’t play racing games like Daytona 2 because car accelerate with the left stick 🤦🏻
Unfortunately, the controls are set and can't be changed.

For some reason the option for "Graphics api" is not shown in the game advanced settings. I wanted to change to Vulkan from open GL. Is there a setting somewhere to enable it?
Not all emulators support Vulkan. If they do, you will be able to choose it.

Is it possible to play multiplayer on SteamDecks Batocera???
Hello sir I have a problem running Batocera Steamdeck, Everytime I play PS3 games in Graphic API Vulkan , It freeze in Recompiling shaders , do you have fix on that thank you
What? Steamdeck video before whats new in v35 vid? You must of been exited for
Bato steamdeck huh 😁
Well, its defo great to see this, I like the steamdecks 7" screen as its also 16:10 (like my old JXD S7800b) rather than 16:9 so its a good compromise for systems that use 4:3 or similar and systems that use wider aspect ratio like GBA and ofcourse PSP, and since the deck can also run ps3,good for that too.
I also noticed you were upscaling to 3 or 4x etc.
Cant see a real reason for upscaling anything higher than 720P which is the decks max res. (Being 16:10 its 1280x800 I know)
So for gamecube, ps2 for eg 2x is the max you need to set it too as thats 720P.. And same applies to other systems, no need to go over 720P, upscaling to anything higher is pushing it for no reason.
The only reason to do so would be if you are outputting it to a 1080P or 4k monitor or TV.. Or.. You were only doing this for testing purposes just to show the power of the steamdeck and how far you can upscale if needed?
Unfortunately the steamdeck isnt officially available where I am yet and even so, Im to poor at the moment and although Im after a good large screen handheld its actually also more than Im willing to pay as well.
If we had a 7" 16:10 screen thats runs Batocera and emulates perfect and upscaled for systems like PSP, N64,Dreamcast Id be content with that, I dont really need Gamecube or PS2 emulation in a handheld, ofcourse it would still be good.. But I can do without it.
Anyway, nice vid as usual BN 👍
Thanks Fonzi. Yes, I was trying to push those emulators to the max. In addition, I wanted to show what was capable for those who want to use their Deck on the big screen. With a $35-$40 Dock, it's so easy to use Deck on a big screen. It works and looks beautifully.
What's new in Batocera 35 is dropping today.

All good BN 👍😁. Figured yeah. But you know, I had to say it, about the res etc.. 😁
Also, I noticed v36 of Batocera adds a new system emulator. Its a Sony handheld and it rhymes with Rita lol
can batocera run in dockmode (using monitor), how?
does MAME work in Batocera on the SteamDeck? I have the mame roms in the folder, but no menu option... is this not an option yet for the SteamDeck?
I believe there is a bug with Mame right now. It doesn't appear to be working on any system since the update. They are working on a fix.
@@BatoceraNation ok glad I’m not crazy lol
Im new to PC gaming and the whole emulator thing. Lol just got my steam deck and very interested in setting all of this up. Seems fairly easy to get running. Only question i have is how do get games once emulator is installed?

Which micro sd you recommend i get?
I have had great success with this card: amzn.to/3yvTFUj. 1TB or 512GB. Cheaper than the Extreme version and it has worked really well for Batocera.
Defo stick with name brands like Samsung or Sandisk.
do you share this image of batocera?

@@BatoceraNation thanks man!
I tried batocera on my steam deck and found that max volume is way too low for all emulators. Is there anyway to fix that ? Do you have similar issue ? I read through its wiki page, cant find any file that I can touch to fix this. I also tried system setting, different outputs and profiles, still no fix.
He does mention the low volume in the vid.
Devs are aware and it will be addressed no doubt.
@@fonzitheman thanks, just found that
I'm seeing issues with how the power button behaves. Pressing it results in the deck basically shutting down. Until Steam releases a way to change boot order, it boots into Steam OS right after. Any ideas?
When you shut the Steam Deck down all the way (not sleep mode) press and hold the volume down button while pressing the power button and it will let you choose what to boot from
@@elmergloo3259 Thanks but that's not related to my post. Issue was already resolved with a Batocera Beta update.
Is it possible to partition my micro sd to dual boot between this and have regular ext4 space for SteamOS?
It might be possible but it will be a complicated process and if something goes wrong, you'll lose files. I ultimately decided to install Batocera on the internal SSD on the Steam Deck, use a microsd card to install more Batocera games, and use a second microsd card to install and run SteamOS from it. So I have 2TB for Batocera games and 1TB for Steam games. If I were ever to need more space for Steam games, I could do it on another microsd card by installing Steam OS on that card too for more Steam Games.
I dual boot using mine. Have my steam deck on the internal, with batocera on the SD card. I don’t have my SD card partitioned however.
i will be reformatting my sd card that I initally used for emudeck. What is the the best format if I am going to run Batocera?
What you format the micro sd card beforehand to doesnt really matter cause once you flash Batocera to the sd card it automatically formats the boot partition to fat32 and the share partition to ext4.
This is what does for Batocera on any system.
The share partition can be formatted to a diff file system later if you really want but honestly you are best leaving it to the default ext4.
See Batocera wiki for more info.
Do you have to go into the boot menu every time you want to load up batocera?
Yes. Unless you install Batocera unto Deck's internal drive and replace SteamOS with Batocera.
But how are performances between this and EmuDeck?
That's a good question. I would have to set it all up in Emu Deck. Don't have the time or desire for it. Want to work on Xenia, PS Vita, and a new Linux version of Cemu for Batocera.
I haven't been able to get batocera to see all the systems roms. I moved the games over from another Batocera build but no go. ☹️ Also as per usual wifi doesn't work and hasn't for years now.
Did you update your Gamelists?
@@BatoceraNation Yeah.
When are you going to make a video on the Xbox 360?
Soon. Both Batocera Steam Deck and Batocera 35 came out at the same time. Threw me for a loop. It will come out within the next 2 weeks.
I was hoping u could help with something ,im trying to add mame game specially killer instinct but everything on the mame folder is not showing on the games list i put it in the mame and after i tried in the mame 2003 folder and still nothing all of my other games show and play with no problems its only mame games

@@BatoceraNation i did follow the tutorial and i still have the problem i have been using batocera for a couple of years and i never had that problem on any other of my systems .Have you tried using MAME on steam deck ? im just wondering if its a problem with the batocera for steam deck or my setup
thank you for answering
@@joerod8382 I have the same issue, retroarch doesn't seem to have any mame cores available (only core available for arcade mame games is final burn neo), so whatever you do it would be just impossible to play them even if the game list was available since the cores are nonexistent and dunno how can you add them manually, I was scratching my head thinking it might have been a bug on my side or I was just doing something wrong since how such a mistake as having none mame cores (mame current, mame 2003, 2010 etc) could happen but guess its marked as beta for a reason, can't wait till a stable version goes out since this software is one of my favorites, once they add mame cores and also the capability of changing in the menu of each game or system if you want to use Open Gl or vulkan etc, it will be my to go software for emulation, those are my only 2 complains, some of my favorite games like killer instinct can't be played at all and some of wii/game cube games are also not fully playable since some games work better with vulkan and I've tried everything to change in the options when you press f1, directly on emulators and even on the config text files, but every time I go into a game the settings just get reset and can't get rid of Open Gl hahaha I'm sure there must be a way just too much of a pain for average user.
Thank you i just wanted to make sure i was not thevonly one
Just received my Steam Deck on thursday, and this was the first thing to do 😁 But very disappointed : sound is just awful ! At boot while loading the intro video, it's crackling all the time. Once loaded, ambiant musics are the same, and also in emulators. Turning the sound off, and that crackling noise is still present. I don't have any issue with SteamOS and Windows 10. Is my Steam Deck faulty ? I've tried many things, read a ton of forums, but I didn't find anyone with a solution, or even the same problem. Tried many Batocera beta images 'til the latest labeled 11-17, but still not working 😭
Yeah, that's not normal. I suspect that the vast majority of us have not encountered that problem. What is really weird, though, is that you don't have this problem in Windows or within SteamOS. It doesn't make sense why it only flares in Batocera. I don't have a clue on what is happening. Have you tried posting within the forums or at Batocera's official Discord's server? Someone there might have a clue.
I downloaded the beta image for steam deck, and I run into few issues, everything seems to work very well for the most part except for sound seems to be on the low side even at max when compared if I run same games directly from desktop mode etc, also retroarch doesn't seems to have mame cores available (current, 2003, 2010 etc) only option was to use final burn neo, making it a pain since some games like killer instinct 1 and 2 need mame cores, might be possible to run them through FBN but haven't check. Dropping roms into mame folder will not even show a list when you run batocrea and yes, I've tried to update game list.
Other issue is emulator settings, there are option missing like choose of what back end like Open GL or Vulkan you want, this is a real pain since some games work better with vulkan and I was not able to change that setting, pressing F1 and modifying directly from emulator or modifying the text files doesn't seem to work since it will all get reset when you jump again into batocera, quite sure there might be a solution but a pain for average user, there should be an easy access menu like for resolution and other settings etc.
The sound bug is actually mentioned in the video. Developer is aware and working on a solution. Within a couple of weeks it should be solved.
For Mame emulation, I encourage you to check out this video: czcams.com/video/5kPvUYnf55k/video.html
You can change the emulator settings on a game by game basis by holding down the A or B button (depending upon your gamepad) for a few seconds then choose "Advanced Game Options." Then choose your settings from there.
If you want to change the emulator's settings as a whole, then choose your emulator. Then press the Select button, then choose "Advanced System Options" and you can choose your emulator options from there.
Many emulators (like PS2) do allow you to change the graphics API (Vulkan or Opengl). Others don't since the Linux Vulkan drivers may not be developed for that particular emulator or none is provided by the emulator itself.
@@BatoceraNation thanks for the reply, glad to hear the team is working on iron the bugs, batocera is defenetly one of my favorite softwares for emulation.
Only emulator I want to change to vulkan is dolphin, some of the games like tatsunoku vs Capcom don't perform well with Open Gl, I tried everything to try and change it but was unable, guess it might not be supported like you mention?
Going to watch the video regarding mame, was bit doubtful it could help but going trough it seems it will certainly provide a fix thx
Anyhow thx for reply, can't wait till stable version of batocera for steam deck goes out.
@@morid0 did you have any luck with Vulcan? I see in this video he has the option for running it on Fzero GX but for me the option is not there and neither is the performance as a result. Maybe they took it away in the latest build? I hope it gets put back in asap.
@@NJ-Tech I think it is just not supported for some emulators, emulators that support vulkan do have an option to use like the PS2 but if it's working properly dunno, sadly dolphin the one I want vulkan to work doesn't on the beta version, also a pain in the a SS that they didn't add mame cores to RetroArch and you have to jump some extra hoops to get it running but I just could not be bothered hope they do add them on stable version.
@@NJ-Tech also dunno what version dude on vid is using but doesn't seem to be the steam beta version that's available right now
Does batocera run mame arcade?
How come your performance metrics are much higher than eta prime, 8x psp, he can only do 2x before performance dips, same with Gamecube your doing 1080p, he's doing 720p, something not right?
Regardless theres no point upscaling any system over 720P since thats the steamdecks screen max res.
So perhaps ETA upscaled his tests to 720P max cause of that reason.
Only reason to go higher is if you are outputting it to a higher resolution monitor or TV.
BN upscaled higher here just to show the steamdecks power for testing purposes to show how high you can actually upscale, again.. Useful if you are outputting the signal to 1080P or 4K monitor or TV.
The sad part is Im unable to get one where I am at the moment plus Im to poor anyway 😩😁😉
I saw that too. Could be because mine was powered while I had it on my Dock. Higher resolutions are only needed when outputting to a monitor or TV. But I promise you, there was no trickery going on.
I also don't think he took it to its max levels because he called a "moot" point any resolution beyond the Deck's specs (which is true if you are only playing it in handheld mode).
has anyone had any luck getting arcade going? i just cat get it to show up in the menu
Come to think of it, neither could I. Since you've have the same issue, I need to investigate further.
Can’t you just load up the batocera first time, take sd card out of steam deck so it creates all the user folders and such Put it into a PC and just manual transfer roms/ games into the folders?
Unfortunately not. The best way is to place Batocera on a dock. Attach a portable drive with your games to the dock and copy your games from the portable drive to the microsd card. Or you can try this method too:
czcams.com/video/KOGMWtGSlwA/video.html
I dont see why not, I have used this method for other handhelds.
Ofcourse you would need special software like Disk Genius that reads the share partition on the SD card as its in ext4 format which windows cannot read by default.
Or, like you said after its booted once up you can format the share partition to ntfs, put it back in your deck and Batocera will create the folder structure again but on the ntfs formatted partition now.
This way you can now transfer files back and forth using windows explorer as normal but using ntfs is not without issues too.
The Batocera wiki explains this too, that you can use a diff file format system it just uses ext4 cause its best for linux.
Having said I have set up the sd card on my Powkiddy RGB10 Max and PS7000 to use ntfs for the share partition and so far no issues.
You can even set up Batocera on PC too this way.
So I presume it works on steamdeck too, but youd have to check.
@@fonzitheman I use disk genius all the time , I will be trying this way too when my steam deck turns up next week hopefully.
@@fonzitheman its just time consuming having to connect usb c keyboard mouse harddrive etc.. When i can just put it on steam deck let bato do the work, remove sd card put it on my pc and already put the roms and isos on the premade folders very fast and easy, less time consuming. Now im just downloading ALL games i want to a 1tb harddrive and just transfering them all together
if i do this. can i still install games from steam store onto the micro SD
If you install Batocera on a microsd card, you will need a separate card to install Steam Games. You will need to switch between cards depending upon which operating system you plan to use.
@@BatoceraNation thanks. Bought a 1TB for games. Wanted to install batocera on that too. Will def get soemthing smaller
I wonder if there's a way to install Batocera on the AYN Odin Pro?
I believe the devs are looking into it and say its possible, for the Base and Pro, not for the Lite however due the kernel and/or chipset it uses.. Or something like that.
But maybe BN knows more since he is in contact with some of the devs.
No support for Snapdragon chips. Those are built for Android. Don't think there will be any support for Snapdragon chips anytime soon -- even if they are powerful chips.
@@BatoceraNation Well that's okay. Because recently I was having second thoughts about it, thinking I would lose access to android features. So I think I'll save it for something more competent (whatever that will be).
I wonder if we could have all done this from the Steam Deck? You could have downloaded Balena Etcher for linux and the Batocera image to your internal drive then burned the SD card. NO?
Yes that should work too. I'm so used to doing everything from Windows. Plus you would have needed to plug the Steam Deck into a dock and monitor to see everything better.
Anyone know why my Steam flatpak exits after about a minute? I’ve installed on 3 different PCs
I had the same problem. It is not Batocera related. When it happened on Batocera 35, I then went to another system that had Batocera 34. Steam loaded up fine but as soon as Steam updated itself to their latest version, it immediately crashed and exited. Therefore, it is related to Steam's software causing the issue. Wait a few days so that Valve can fix it and update its software.
@@BatoceraNation thank you
Would love to see an update to this video. I think alot of this is fixed. Ive got V39 running on my steam deck and totally addicted. It is a match made in heaven. Would really like to enable the gyro in batocera. Anyone know if that's possible?
Does PES2013 or 2018 work on PS3 or 360?
For PS3, if it works in the Windows version of RPCS3, then it will work on the Batocera version assuming you have the right hardware. Go to RPCS3's website to fnd out which games are compatible with their emulator. For Xenia, it probably doesn't work it since Xenia is not as advanced in emulation as RPCS3.
How did you get switch working I won’t start for me

why is since the update of 34 and 35 batocera wont load up anymore it will do its setting up at first once it boots up but then goes to a black screen. I have a geoforce gt-710 2 gig video card and you can still buy them brand new.
Try doing a clean install with v35. But when I was on v33 and v34, nvidia drivers for batocera stopped support GeForce 700 series. I had a GT 730 and had the same issues.
@@wolffactor56 well you can still buy the gt 710 brand new over here in australia so they must still be good to use not sure why batocera would drop the support for them.
@@aussiejace8572 it's nvidia drivers that are in batocera that dropped it. I think v30 was last batocera that had support for the 700 series. I could never get my 730 to work on v33. It's a 6 year old card 😅

Then I begged Valve to let me purchase it. They gave me the green light and it arrived just as Nicolas was working on releasing the Beta version of Steam Deck. The Deck is a dream emulation machine!
@@BatoceraNation Thats awesome you got it. Here in Korea they are just about to release it or have recently. But I have a baby coming in Jan so I should be responsible and get it without telling my wife :P jk...
Ok, time to watch your "Whats new in batocera 35 "vid
thanks for your video.. but buy a 1080p 60hz recorder harware. Your videos are only 30fps and the footage is not good enough.
If anyone else was getting an error using Balencena Etcher.... use Rufus.
Do u sell sd cards with batocera on it
This would be against Batocera and Libretro licensing terms.
@@fonzitheman you didn't ask my question lol how much if you did
Xbox360 runn in PC ?
Do the games come with the installation
No installation needed. You drop the roms in their proper folders, download the bios files (look at Installing Batocera 34 on the video description to find out where to find them), and you are ready to go.
Thanks
Can you use ps4 controllers?
With the steam deck?
Dunno
On Batocera PC yeah
@@fonzitheman yes you can on the deck 👍
I have several pen drives I don't use, and keeping recommending Batocera to the 4 winds. Then why is it I never tried it? Because: Education ≠ Intelligence.
And I'm dumb as a pile of bricks for not creating a Batocera pen drive at least to recommend it from experience.
Works really well on thumbdrive or microsd card.
The fastest sd card is a waste of money for the steam deck because it’s capped at 100mb/s.
Botw needs work. I think cemu is the better option for this
