I had steam up and running perfectly fine for a bit and then it stopped working. Then I guess the Batocera team fixed it but all my games that didn't have Linux native ports crashed. Somehow the Proton community build got uninstalled but I was fighting with it forever. I finally decided to make sure it was installed as a last attempt to fix it and noticed it wasn't. So now it finally works again. I wanted to play Street fighter 6 on my arcade machine. It's finally working.

I have installed Steam and Proton in the flatpak config as shown, but I have no menu option in my dask to access flatpak

Great video as always! Is there an easy way to disable Big Picture mode? When I go to the little power button and select Exit Big Picture Mode I get a black screen that hangs forever and I have to reboot via SSH. I need to tweak a few settings to get my 8bitdo Ultimate Wireless controller's right anolog stick and L2 and R2 buttons to work. They work perfectly everywhere else...

Hey BN, great video.. Quick question, have you found a way to get the steam deck touchpads to work? I want to play DOS and ScummVM games, and retroarch does not detect the pads as anything other that top hat up & down.

i installed the flatpaks and restarted but then "go to the flatpak" its not there it does not show up on the main ribbon its not in menues every step along the way of botocera has been a pain in the but bios file still don't work on half the systems even though i downloaded a supposed verified batocera bios pak that was preformated to be propper and work out of the box AND NO ONE RESPONDS ANYWHERE TO ANY OF MY QUESTIONS i'm about to give up this system is not good for my blood pressure
Fyi in case anyone has same issue as me. These community ones aren't work for me. It doesn't stay check marked on steam play (bottom check mark ) for any community protons. Proton 7.0.6 and Proton Experimental works though
I’ve installed steam and all the proton community updates in flatpak and rebooted, and no matter how many times I do it nothing shows up. When I click on flatpak in the main batocera menu there’s no software in it

Man this is making the gears in my head spin real fast. I already prefer Batocera for emulation on the Deck, it just works better and is cleaner... now you're telling me I can run all the same games in Batocera that I can on SteamOS?
I'm trying to think of potential drawbacks, and the only one coming to mind is perhaps the loss of some of the extras that you get in SteamOS, like Decky Loader and all it's plugins, and I guess you lose the performance overlay and ability to fine tune. Might still be worth playing around with. Thanks for the video and the deep thinking I will now have to do, lol.
This was helpful, I got Steam up and running and installed Mortal Kombat 11. I have 4 Joysticks that show up as "DragonRise USB Joystick" and it seems my 1p and 2p controls with Steam are identical on both. Anyone know how to have steam get these to show up as p1 and p2 for local play?
#BatoceraNation Please help. How to CHANGE or ADD another Library folder to steam in batocera ? I want install games on my portable 5tb drive, but i cand add librarary. I tried add path manually, by editing libraryfolders.vdf , unfortunate without success. Also when i trying add any other path from steam menu, then steam shut down - exit to batocera.
This was a super useful tutorial and this used to work a treat. Have struggled getting any version of Proton above 5.0 to work in recent versions of Batocera.
Any advice or tips to resolve this? Happy to provide more context if needed.

Great video! Thank you! I'm able to install Steam and proton using Flatbak after pressing F1, but then when I go back to Steam and click on Flatbak, it doesn't show that Steam has been installed; how can I fix this?
I have a ten year old HP Pavilion dm1 laptop that I don't use even though it's still pretty powerful.
I formatted the main drive to get rid of Windows 7 and installed Batocera.
So now when I power it up, the laptop just boots directly to batocera.
However, it has a tiny, fairly low quality 11" screen and my objective is to play MAME and Amiga games on my 65" Samsung smart TV, or at least my 27" Dell monitor. But the Batocera laptop will not output any video to my TV and nor will it output video to either my LG or Dell monitors via the HDMI port.
I tried a newer windows 10 laptop and it has no issue outputting to my TV or monitors via HDMI.
Is there anything I can do to get the Batocera laptop to output the screen (and ideally the audio also) to my TV?
I found you have to refresh games list for steam to show under flatpack

flatpak isn't showing in the systems. What could have happened?
I have been trying for a couple hours to change the install location of Steam games folder to an external HDD. Tried flakshare, manually editing the location cfg file and can not get it changed.
I did try create a link for my steam games but it does not write to the external HDD.
Hi i ask some question. I encountered booting my batocera turn to black screen only. But i tried the sd card to other steam deck it boots normally
I built my PC build using Batocera 36v .and with 3 internal drives:
1 with Batocera 2tb nvme
1 as a rom storage drive 8tb (NTFS)
1 for steam 2tb ssd (ext4) .
When I go to Steam I can only see the Batocera drive .I am guessing its a mount point issue but i am not sure how to correct it in Batocera so i can install on the 2tb ssd ..Any suggestions on what i can do?

I have steam running on ASROCK 4800u. Steam only sees the batocera drive. I want to use my second SSD for my steam games, but when I try to select that drive inside steam, it doesn't show up. What do I do ?
Does installing through the UI make a difference then terminal? So far through terminal steam breaks on the first reboot

I noticed that proton ge and the community builds are all missing from flatpak
Its also actually weird where right click and left click don't seem to work with some menu's

ok great! im glad i wasnt the crazy one. mine broke so hard i had to uninstall. i went to kubuntu for that plama experience.... which is nice, but.... lacking that batocera gui goodness.

Update! Batocera just had a butterfly update and steam works again. Yuzu doesn't work unless you bring a yuzu appimage!
When i start games (that should be able to run) it just boots me back into steam instead of taking me into the game? Anyone has this issue as well?
I have the same problem here, I have not been able to fix it yet. Have you found a way around this problem?
Not really, i have tried all the different proton builds as well but no dice..even the games that should be able to run (checked the proton comp list) arent starting up
Hmmm, very odd...For me the games start, but it looks like they are being pushed to the background when the Steam UI decides to load up. When I close steam it crashes and the game closes forcing me back to the Batocera main menu.
I got Stardew Valley and Shovel Knight working once but no idea how I did it and I have not been able to get it to work again. Lets hope that @BatoceraNation knows a way to fix it!

make sure you are using 7.0.5 community proton and not 8.4 proton

No steam. No proton....i go into flatpak config. Type in steam and proton. NOTHING. Nothing but a blank page that wont load ANY apps. Tried refreshing, NOTHING. tried looking for suggestions, NOTHING...
The past few beta updates bricked my pi 4 leading to me having to manually downgrade it 34 or 35. I wouldn't be that bothered and just wait for the next stable, except the dreamcast now runs super slow and the Saturn doesn't load roms and crashes. Any ideas anyone? It's probably some setting I messed up. I've tried with a fresh config file etc.
That's why Beta is risky. It might have messed things up. Best bet is to copy your Share folder to a portable drive. Then, reinstall Batocera on your Pi, and recopy your Share folder back into your Pi.
Have you set an emulator? Sometimes i notice if I change emulator, I sometimes get better result. Sometimes no
@@BatoceraNation thanks. This is what I thought might have to be done. But it's the answer I was dreading as I don't have a spare drive big enough(yet) to back up all my 800+gb of roms and do a fresh install. First world problems.
There was a post on the official forum where someone said he has poorer performance on the pi4 with flycast (and its also slower on the RK3326 chipset I noticed as well) but user Atari replied saying he is working on fixing it with the lead Flycast dev.
Thanks. For the next Steam video it would be nice if you could show how sideload non-Steam games into Steam in a way that games can also be launched directly from ES instead of having to start Steam first and then launch them from there.

Can Battlenet be installed through Steam on Batocera? There are numerous videos of people doing so on Steamdecks. Under Batocera Steam can only see files and directories created during its flatpack installation. I am placing the install file in these Steam visible areas and trying various Proton variants without success.
