Man, I didn't even know that there were after market batteries made for DeWalt.
The fake china batteries work good for a jobsite radio
But thats only it,
They all suck long term, and under load, they all lose charging capacity after a few discharge cycles. I've yet to buy an off brand 6Ah dewalt battery that didn't lose capacity after a week or two of use. They lose a bar or two on the charge indicator, and as for the XR grinder, you can hear it no longer winds up to full speed once they drop a bar on the indicator, so it might be voltage drop vs capacity or a mix of the two.
Do you have a 5Ah Powerstack? I wonder how this compares in the grinder test?
@@europana7 Sorry I don't
As a science major, this test was stellar - thanks for going the extra mile to show the data.
Thank you! Glad you liked it
I have some of the waitleys . They have been the best aftermarket ones I've ever bought. I've tried all the ones you tested and others. The waitleys have been great for me on my dcf900 1/2" impact gun. And my XR angle grinder.. they require quite a bit of juice. I have had 4 of the waitleys that have lasted me almost 6 months, as of now. With everyday use out of them. In case anyone is wondering..
Thanks for your comment and experience!
@@RedBeardOps you bet.! Thanks for the video..!
Are they stillyou holding 11 months in?
@@carlcornelius4710 yea , mine are still fine . The cheaper ones that say lithium on the side. Stay away from those.. but the waitleys have held up good for me ..
@@gbii8101wait I've searched and it seems all the waitleys say lith ion on the side?
You came to exact same conclusion as I have - Waitley is a great value. I have quite a few. The Waitley 6ah is better than my OEM DeWalt 5ah (Chinese knockoffs always overstate ah). All my Waitley's have lasted at least 5 years - not one has failed or noticeably degraded.
Thank you very much for your feed back that's what I needed to know looking for one to use on my keeds power wheels
Dude! You're my guy. You have a shop and a home gym! I'm all in. I subscribed as soon as I saw the Rogue plates and Monolift attachments. On top of that your deadpan expressions made me giggle through the entire video.
Hahaha, thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you like some of the other videos.
I have a pile of these off brand 6ah batteries, seat of the pants testing puts them right between my Dewalt 4ah and 5ah batteries. Your testing is right in line with my experience. I am happy with the $30 ish dollars I spent on them.
Good video🤙👍👍
Thanks for sharing!
This is awesome, good to see where a knock preforms well enough and where it doesn't. I always wondered if the real batteries were just huge market up, and this shows, not exactly. Looks like the name brand are probably more expensive for a reason, but the average diy'er might not need all that instant power.
I got 3 knock off tool batteries that work great, but never used them on something like a grinder.
Very nice video and thanks for taking the time to put it together and show some bottom line analyses. It's good to know the higher price of the OEM is not just fluff. Also good to know there may be options.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this! Guys like you and PF are what make CZcams great.
Thanks Paul!
I appreciate the time spent on you doing this, Great job 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
My pleasure!
I would much rather see things like this than an obviously sponsored "review" of a $4000 grinder I can't justify buying for my hobby. I'd love to see more things like this from your channel, and will continue watching and learning.
Hey Jeremy, glad you enjoyed it! Cheers sir.
Project Farm is my go to source for tool knowledge. Thanks for the testing and the info...now get back to your forge...LOL
Dude he is the bomb! I will be don't worry! I have a press to restore then some knives to get done
Would love to see project farm collabs
Love project farm and found your video through suggestion, really appreciate the demonstration, usually I would say project farm tops tools comparison videos but your wider selection of brands is greatly appreciated!! Thank you
Awesome, thank you! Glad you liked the video. Cheers!
I started watching and thought to myself, "this seems similar to Project Farm" (which I really like). Right after that, it was mentioned that those were the inspiration for this and a recommendation to check them out. I am a subscriber now; cool shout out and nice work!
Cheers Chris! Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you for this video bro. I am in the market of replacing my old dewalt batteries. I was looking into aftermarket batteries mainly to power my drill, rotary sander/ polisher, and my dual action polisher. I own a small mobile detailing company and I use several cordless tools. After watching your video, I have decided to purchase a couple of 5 or 6ah dewalt batteries since they seem to dominate when it comes to high drawing demands. Thanks for this info.
Glad I could help
Man I love the data!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, this is awesome stuff!
Glad you like it!
Amazing video! You made me decide which one I'll get. Thank you a lot!
Thanks. I'm going to pick up a Waitley. Just saved me a bunch of money. 👍
Thanks for this video. For me the real test will be how many times the knock off batteries can be recharged. Will they last as long in months or years as a true Dewalt? So I’d love to hear an update. I’ve seen in many Amazon reviews the knock offs died after a few months. Thanks again.
Outstanding video... Very well thought out! 🙏
Thank you so much 😀
Great vid, and appreciate your efforts in making it. Will deffo give the Waitley a go!
Good luck! Thanks
The aftermarket 18650/21700 cells used in these battery packs are not using high amp discharge cells, so they can't handle high amp applications like the grinder (with a load) for long. They'll overheat and degrade faster as well (less charging cycles). Some of the best cells out there are made by Samsung and Panasonic, which the cheap clones aren't using (can't use at those prices). I'm curious as to what brand cells DeWalt is using. I build drones and have tested dozens of various brand/model 18650 batteries.
Where are you buying your batteries? I need to rebuilt some Hitachi Battery packs. Thanks
What's the best value brand in your opinon?
Dewalt uses Samsung.
I plan on buying the cheapest battery for the shell, then welding the highest quality cells I can put in there. Hopefully the driver chip can handle it. If not, I can get a driver too and make it work
@@beefstickswellington1203That's a good idea, dunno why I didn't think of it. Thanks for the idea
Cool review. I bought a Waitley years ago when I didn’t have funds for another Dewalt battery and I just needed something as a back up to my two 2.0 Dewalt batteries. I now have several more and larger DeWalt batteries but haven’t tested to compare but i use the waitley on a fairly regular rotation and don’t notice a huge drop off. It is a 5amp. Now I have a new Dewalt 6amp, 4amp and an older 3amp (and a flex volt). I should compare it to the 3 and 4 amp for time
I bought the ones that have the same color scheme as Dewalt but 12 AH and upgraded my son's 12v four wheeler. I got 2 for 140 and them batteries are amazing in his four wheeler and I use them with tools also. Great find. Mine are a little different then his.
Yes thanks for this video ! It has answered a lot of my questions about buying batteries
Glad I could help!
Love the credit you gave to project farm, as well as the experiment. Excellent. Might I recommended speeding the audio up a little in the future? 😊
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks James! That really helps!
Happy to help!
This was super helpful. Thank you for your hard work.
Glad it was helpful!
I appreciate the time and effort put into this video. Great stuff. Liked and subscribed.
Much appreciated!
This was amazing! I commend your attention to detail.
Glad you liked it!
Would love to see some long term testing also. I wonder how much leaving them uncharged for long periods of time affects them. They say it doesn't affect Li-ion, but that's not true. It might not be a major difference or they may not just crap out completely, but it definitely does something to the cells.
Long term testing would be good!
I've used four 6ah Waitley's for at least 5 years - still going strong. I keep them charged and rotate thru all my batteries (including my OEM DeWalt batteries) so none gets overused/underused.
Fwiw, I bought a couple 12ah DeWalts last year with my lawn mover/chainsaw/weed trimmer - one failed after 6 months. DeWalt replaced it quickly without hassle, so that ~$300 price tag per battery was at least worth something.
It's best to store at 50% charge, in a cold place.
Great video man!
Glad you liked it!
Very well done....thanks!
Excellent review and helpful information. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
This the best test i find in CZcams 💪💪💪
Wow, thanks!
Great quick service, delivery
you got an immediate like for giving credit at the start of the video.
Cheers sir!
First, fantastic video! I really appreciate reviews for products that perform well and save me money. Next, you should probably proofread your description. Project Farm is a legend, not a leged 🤣. I’d love to see more extensive reviews, with more tools tested. Expecting good things from you!
Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks so much for sharing great information!
Glad it was helpful!
I like this review especially it includes the performance data(mph) in addition to the run time
Glad you liked it!
Thanks, was in the market for a Dewalt battery replacement as well.
Good testing and good videos. Thanks!
Glad you like them!
Thanks so much, really appreciate it. Without this review I would be scared to buy aftermarket batteries. Really good detailed review 👍
Glad I could help
Excellent Job I use the Whitley and have for 5+ years, the work for me!
Great to hear!
I love CZcams, there a video for everything.! Thanks for making this !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m definitely feeling a lot better about my DeWalt OEM 3ah battery purchase for $45 brand new. Makes me glad I got a legit battery for only a few dollars more than a knockoff that would perform slightly worse or the same as it.
Great job. Great knowledge 👏
Glad it was helpful!
Another AWESOME Video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good timing. I've been trying to find some good reviews for aftermarket replacement batteries. Waitley is at the top of the list at this point if they've got 18v batteries for my older Porter Cable tools. Great review.
Glad I could help!
Waitley by far makes the best aftermarket batteries and is all that I buy now days, if I'm going to get aftermarket. They use Samsung cells in my m12 batteries. I still recommend going genuine with a warranty
Hell of a video, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Impressive test!
Thank you! Cheers!
This was an incredible video - just ordered 2 Whaitly batteries for what I do - thank you 👊🏼😉
Glad I could help!
@@RedBeardOps got em’ today charged them fully (Waitleys) and if I were blind it behaves like a name brand battery 👊🏼😂
@@reno7725 Good to hear! CHeers
I don't use them enough to notice a difference and I've had these dewalt and the knock off's for this period of time , I was impressed with the knock offs . I all so got an adapter to use them on my black and decker weed trimer these out performed the black and decker batterys by a lot
Good analysis. I like how you aRe honest honest
Thanks Boris!
Thanks! Great and helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this great info.
Glad it was helpful! Cheers John
Red Beard: THANKS!!! A really thorough review and very helpful results: Light duty: Waitley; Heavy Duty/High Torque: DeWalt. Thanks also for the citation of inspiration of Project Farm. However, your procedure was just as standardized and just as thorough. I appreciate the time you put it to make this a true test and the results are very useful. I am very appreciative.
GREAT JOB!
Thanks!
Now im grabbing waitly brand 😅😊 thanks for the video
Cheers!
I'm really glad I actually finished the video. Under load, it's clear the Dewalts are MUCH better. I'm looking for batteries to run a chainsaw, which is much more similar to a grinder than a blower. Dewalt it is.
Cheers!
I think I may stick to my corded Dewalt grinders for now. I been currently looking at the 20V Brushless grinders and these knock off ((6AH)) batteries to keep cost down. This video gave me the information needed to answer my questions.
Cheers sir!
Cordless Dewalt grinders kill batteries I’d only recommend them for mobile jobs or where power outlets aren’t close by. The batteries get very hot as well when grinding
I just bought 2 Waitley 6Ah 20v batteries and 2 DeWalt 5Ah 20v batteries from Amazon. I tested each battery and while the DeWalt did indeed have Samsung 25R batteries the Waitley batteries had ZERO writing on them. Next I performed a capacity test and found the Waitleys were 3883 and 3863 mAh batteries closer to 4 Ah batteries and not the 6 Ah as advertised. The DeWalts tested at 5123 and 5092 mAh each surpassing the 5 Ah as advertised. I have both genuine Samsungs and Molicel batteries for replacing the batteries in the Waitleys when they die.
Thank you very much for the video , and your time.
Glad it was helpful!
Very good test.
Thanks!
Great video! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Thanks man. I cant justify buying the dewalt batts but they sure do work well. I'm in the market for generic but there are so many more now
Thanks for the video. I recently bought a dewalt adapter for my dyson vacuum and I think aftermarket batteries will provide me a good cost efficient alternative to my dewalt batteries. Two of those waitlys should take care of my house on max settings and if the vacuum needs a proper dewalt, the money isn't lost as I have other dewalt tools that could use them.
Glad I could help!
I bought that adaptor to and after a 10 to 15 sec run time my Dyson shuts off. I have to pull my battery reinsert and then turn back on. I sent it back
I just completely rebuilt one of mine with some Samsung 25r cells it feels much more powerful than the dewalt oem ones I have not ran it through the paces however once I do I might be building my own if it comes out well
Where did you source your cells please? Thanks
Outstanding video! You are Very thorough in your testing. I purchased a knockoff battery from a seller on Facebook, and he must be selling some batteries that were throw away, by a manufacture to recycle as scrap, and they found their way to Facebook, to be purchased by an unsuspecting fool like me. Note to EVERYONE, look into the SELLER, BEFORE you buy anything.
Good tip Lloyd
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. Thank you for the hi load testing as well. I am curious about the difference between the new and the used DeWalt 5Ah battery..and how these batteries fare with repeated charges and how quickly they degrade over time.. ie- after a fixed amount of charging cycles...say ten...what is the battery performance then? That would clinch the deal between the top contenders (DeWalt and Waitley.) You don't even need to bother with the rest. My question is how do they all degrade after repeated charging cycles.
Good question! I'm not sure. The Waitley has been working well for me so far
What an effort😯!! Hope u get payed for this experiment🤔
Lol, just about enough to keep making videos. It's the fun of making them and helping the community that keeps the channel alive! I'm glad you enjoyed this one! Have a great weekend.
This made me buy waitly knock off dewalt replacements and I just wanna say m.f. thank you !!!!! 😊
Glad I could help!
Great methodology! Love my DeWalt tools, hate how pricey the batteries are. That Waitley will be perfect for extra batteries when we’re out w the RV.
Thanks!
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!
very good tests...
Thank you! Cheers!
This is about the third or fourth battery comparison tests that I've seen. All of them recommended the Waitley if DeWalt's prices are a tad too high.
Not the hero we asked for but the hero we needed!
LOL
would love to see a similar test with m12 batteries
Great video. Would of liked to see how these batteries compared using a circular saw, but I'll live.
Lol, thanks Jason! I'd imagine it would be similar to the angle grinder.
Great review.
Seems like the waitleys are probably so have 6 AH but higher internal resistances so have much higher voltage droop than the official DeWalt battery.
Excellent comparison! I'll bet you still have those old batteries laying around, any chance of an update on their longevity? Thank you
The waitly is still running strong. After the test I got rid of the others.
I really liked this video.I also think that I will not buy any of the k.o. batteries. My opinion is that none of them will hold up over a long period of time. Also the cost savings for a 5ah is not much. Thanks for helping me make this decision.
Nice job.
Thank you! Cheers!
The other consideration is how they hold up over time/recharge cycles. I'd be willing to bet that you can get many more recharge cycles out of the DeWalt batteries (also justifying their higher cost), but it would be interesting to see if that is the case.
You’re probably right there Doug!
Thanks man, just what i wanted to know. Never tried the off brands, not sure i ever will. I got some Dewalt 2s still working on my drill that are 10 years old
Right on
Thank you for the testing! I work at an auto shop and I’m looking for good batteries to power my impact wrench. Would you recommend the Waitley or the DeWalt for that? Thanks!
Man, the waitley has been working just fine for me. I will say, for a professional application like yours it may make since to "buy once, cry once"
I’d like to see this test re-run in 6 vs 12 months to se if the knock offs can sustain their value vs Dewalt.
Great video
Thanks! I keep the Waitley's around and they're still going
good job SIR
Thank you Curtis!
I wonder if the Korea made dewalt batteries use the Samsung cells. They're not at the top of the 18650s form factor but they're near the top which might account for part of the performance difference.
Ty for these tests! I was just about to cheap out and buy some powtree batteries lol no more sir, oem Dewalt batteries only now.
Cheers sir!
Hi, enjoyed your test. I have a question about the 60 Flexvolt have you tried them and is there a knock off for them as they are very expensive. Thanks
Hey Ray, I really haven't tried them! Sorry about that
This is a great video. It did leave me wondering, would a higher than 5 amp hr battery like 6 or higher by Waitley out perform a 5 hr by DeWalt?
Great point!
From all of the research I’ve done thus far…it seems that if you desire a specific OEM performance (I.e. 5ah performance) you need to jump up 1 ah with the aftermarket and you’ll get it.
Excellent video I know which battery to get now the 6ah DeWalt
Glad you liked it!
Thank you
Welcome!
Where did you get that respirator, I want one, links or name ? Cheers from Canada, great breakdown of the batteries !
CHeers Joe! I have a link to that resporator in the description of this video - czcams.com/video/JAAKWRKQXu0/video.html
Probably just going to end up coughing up the 200 for two 60v but nice to see there are cheaper options
this was a good build onto project farms' work! but someone still needs to do a high cycle count test...that's all I really care about, how often am I going to have to replace it?
ps--whats that yellow thing around your nose during the grinder tests?
It's called the Resp-O-Rator system. It's kinda rare now days as far as respirators go.
