The car traffic in Cairo is a lawless anarchy and crossing the street at most places in the city is a death sentence. Furthermore the city is extremely poluted and all the major roads are almost always completely gridlocked. The Cairo metro really needs to expand in order to decrease the amount of traffic because the current amount of car traffic is destroying the city when looking at smog, traffic jams, crossing the roads, noise pollution etc.

    • @MetroLiner
      @MetroLiner  Před 2 lety +6

      The main focus of these videos is to cover the "rapid transit systems" of cities (metro/ subway). However, making a distinction between rapid transit and other modes of rail transit can sometimes be difficult as the categorization is not standardized across countries. Generally, rapid transit has 1) short distances between stations, 2) high train frequency, and 3) runs on separate tracks. This is not a definite rule and a lot of systems fall somewhere in between.
      Berlin’s S-Bahn adequately fulfills the definition of rapid transit and can be classified as one. However, Vienna’s S-Bahn fits more closely with a suburban commuter rail and is not included in the Vienna video. Again, these distinctions can seem unclear as there is no standard definition of rapid transit.
      For your reference, systems that were included in my videos despite not being a typical rapid transit system are: Berlin S-Bahn, São Paulo CPTM, Paris RER, Stockholm Pendeltåg, etc. Systems that were excluded are: Los Angeles Metrolink, Madrid Cercanías, Vienna S-Bahn etc.
      Hope this comment helped!

    Yet another country wants to build a monorail because it sounds cool and futuristic. So sorry, Egypt, it's a terrible idea.

      Why?

    • @ramzanninety-five3639
      @ramzanninety-five3639 Před 2 lety +2

      @@linusfotograf because it is in no way better than modern light metro, but it is more complex and more expensive to maintain. Trains are often bespoke, infrastructure required is larger, especially when the loading factor is accounted for. There is not need for monorail if you have enough space and you don't need to climb hills

      @@linusfotograf it makes projects unnecessary expensive, especially for countries that have dense cities but limited budgets. Even wealthy countries should build more transit above ground, given the ridiculous construction costs

      Underground is actually quite expensive more than monorails, and if you see the areas the monorails serve you would see that the streets are not actually that wide and the monorail is good for them

    No plans to connect the two monorails? Considering that those are the lines reaching out to the stations where the planned HSR will stop (no central Cairo station!) it'd be good to have direct access to central Cairo from them.

      @@amrsamy2578 Via transfers, yes. Which is very different from via a direct transfer, and even more different from being a single through-line.
      People will not use them as part of the same journey anywhere near as much as if they were part of the same line, and also distinctly fewer journeys that use both monorails than if they had a direct transfer.
      Urban rail transit lines can't be planned like a road system since people use them vastly differently.

      @@GustavSvard those 2 monorails are like 2 metro lines. They serve completely different areas, like the western monorail serve the most crowded parts in the 6th of october city (the biggest satellite city of giza governorate) and in desperate need for good connection to giza and cairo. The eastern monorail is to connect new cairo , cairo and the new administrative capital

    so let me get this gay: we have full congestion in old cairo city.... we have few metro stations. and then the country decides to create a multibillionaire city for the rich and politicians, instead of expanding the metro as a priority.... thats very very smart no doubt!! and of course the monorail the rich wont use it. the poor workers will use them to come and go to the old city where the poor still live in the same conditions... that is NOT what i want for cairo citizens!! they deserve better. as we all do!!
