Interesting fact about Mexico City Metro, each station has a unique symbol to help identify it, as there was a low literacy rate back in the 60's so they created pictograms to help navigation.
Though nowadays most people know how to read, they are so useful and successfull that they stuck around and pretty much every mass-transport system in the country uses their own symbols.
    Great video, as always.

As shown on your video, Mexico City Metro was once a marvel of engineering and planning, so far as to influence other transportation systems across the region. Sadly, the last few administrations disregarded the Metro, not only stunting its growth but even letting it fall in disrepair, and instead built many BRT lines, which is not a bad mode in itself but clearly insufficient for a 20M inhabitants megalopolis.

Some of Line 12 is temporarily out of service because of the train derailing recently. It's so sad to hear about that incident. There are also some commuter rail services out of Mexico City, one of them is the line to Toluca that's under construction. A line to Puebla would also be excellent.

It is incredible how a citizen of Mexico City has grown "El Metro" (as it is called daily), in an impressive way, and the lines missing. There is a master plan in place with a horizon to the year 2040, 5 new lines will be built and lines 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, B and 12 will be expanded. Now the only expansion that is being built is that of the Line 12 to Observatorio. Greetings for Mexico.🇲🇽.

Actually in 1970 line 2 opened between Pino Suarez and Tas(x)queña, and line one opened Juanacatlan station as terminus until 1971 when line 3 opened between Tlatelolco and Hospital General, line 2 extended to tacuba and Line 1 to Tacubaya. In the 80’s and 90’s there were official plans to have Mexico City with 17 metro lines and 10 light rail lines, aswell as 3 suburban rail lines for 2020 with branches, but there were never taken by the government and instead focused in BRT which opened in 2005 and solving the hyperinflation of 1989 and the TLC (Free Trade of Comerce which opened the Mexican market to international comerce) in 1994 and “buliding Line 12” which ended up with over costing, bad quality of construction and then 2021 brought to see the level of disrepair that the metro was left over the years with the fire of the control station that stopped the service and used soap bars and phone calls to have the service running as well as the Line 12 collapse, and extensions replace with elevated brt lines which ended up collapsing aswell. Even when the mayor of Mexico City sayed that they wanna repair the metro, as they found it in corruption and disrepair they repaired the light rail line and. The Trolleys which were in worse situations than the metro but the metro is suffering that.

Why are the two lines 'A' and 'B' not numbered like the others? Are they different in some way?

There is something wrong with line 12, there was a serious accident where a "metro" (I mean the train) fell apart because it was poorly built and they decided to remove the entire line 12 because it was poorly built
