Me pasó igual mientras veía el video. Nunca fui consciente de que el metro crecía conmigo y que lo hacía de una manera exponencial. Definitivamente me sorprende que gran parte del metro tiene casi las mismas dos décadas que yo tengo. Pareciera que siempre estuvo ahí.

Yo que usé el metro desde chico sí he sido conciente y aun asi es increible a la velocidad que crece. Cuando estaba en la U estaban haciendo las extensiones de la linea 2 hacia el norte y como no uso esas estaciones ni caché, un día estaban listas xD También el hecho que la linea 3 y 6 se abrieron super juntas, estaban haciendo 2 lineas al mismo tiempo, la cagó
Yo el 2004/2005 iba como en 4to básico y estudiaba en un colegio cerca de la estación Protectora de la infancia, y todos decían que se veía el metro desde el tercer piso del colegio. Yo ni cachaba qué era el metro, así de pendejo XD ahora ya adulto entiendo el impacto que tuvo la L4 para todo ese sector. La línea 3 y 6 las viví de la manera que los más viejos vivieron la L4, sobre todo porque iba a la u cerca de ambas líneas.

It's amazing how Santiago developed its network in just a couple of decades... Meanwhile Buenos Aires has the oldest network in the continent and its size is just a third of Santiago's metro.
Yeah, but BA has lots of suburban railways, something which Santiago has very little of. Now, I can't comment on the quality of those railways, seeing as I've never used them, but they do play a vital role in the Greater BA's transit network.

If you go to BA and ask for the metro, they're going to pont you in the direction of an underground station. (And if you ask outside the Federal District they're going to answer "we don't have a metro here")

La línea 4 canceló esa extensión desde Plaza de Puente Alto a Bajos de Mena y se lo dejaron a la línea 9, que ahora partirá desde Puente Cal y Canto hasta Plaza de Puente Alto
Y el tren a Melipilla será para 2024
The metro system in Chile is pretty good in comparison to (for example) Europe in service/price. For about a dollar (without considering the cost of the Bip! card, which is about 2 dollars) you can literally go anywhere the rails take you, there's no distance nor time limit for you to be in the train. Plus you can combine the subway with urban buses for just one payment ($1 train + $0 bus or $1 bus + $0 train).
Whomever has been building this, come to Italy, our cities are in desperate need of extensive (and functional) metro systems, it's just a shame that Madrid alone beats all the 7 cities having a metro here. Congrats to the Chileans for developing this network anyway
And yet we are a million miles away from Italy’s high-speed rail system. We can only dream of your Frecciarossa and Trenitalia networks. Only now are intercity trains making a comeback in Chile

Es increíble que Santiago de Chile tenga conectada a toda su ciudad o al menos gran parte de ella, a través de su red de metro, trenes y buses. Otros países de la región son ciudades mas grandes o metrópolis como Lima por ejemplo, esten tan atrás respecto de Santiago Chile. De verdad que son un gran ejemplo para la región de latino América y el continente europeo en avance en cuanto a medio de transporte se trata.

En buena parte el desorden de los números es por que de la línea 1 a la 5, en general son casi los mismos recoridos que el proyecto. Pero ese proyecto subestimo el crecimiento urbano de santiago sur, y en cambio santiago norte no tuvo un gran crecimiento, por lo que a la hora de elegir que línea construir, se elegir la que beneficiaria a más población, es decir que 4 y 4A, ya las línea 6, 7, 8, 9 ya no calzan el proyecto original (me he esforzado por conseguir todos los planos del metro y sus distintos proyectos, son como 6 o 8)

Chilean Metro has had many unfortunate stuff specialy, as nico mentioned, the earthquakes... I wouldn't be able to imagine Line 3 with pneumatic trains... like NS-01 or something like that.... interesting alternate ending for that line

I can see Santiago having its metro system and tram system extended to expand the city and the population in and around Santiago. Very good stuff.
Because we had a good planner, Juan Parrochia, who predicted the population movements until 2050 and made a master plan in the end of the 1960’s which the system uses until today to create lines.
They hired Nazi consultant for entire country. Chile just like a Germany at the South America. Even their army uniform are the same with Nazi’s 🤣

Wow que buen sistema, los primeros 30 años hasta el 2000 construyeron como tortugas, solo 39 km y los últimos 18 años construyeron 100 km a un ritmo impresionante, por eso el metro de Santiago es el mejor porque es relativamente nuevo, más del 70% del sistema tiene menos de 20 años.

en los 80 se iba a construir la linea 3 pero luego ocurrio el terremoto de 1985 y esos fondos fueron destinados a la reconstruccion del pais. luego se postergo otra ampliacion de metro por otro terremoto. pasa en chile. eso demoro algo la ampliacion hasta los 00's.

@@gabrielnunez7755 es relativo, en México los primeros 40 km de metro se construyeron en 3 años y todavía no había tuneladoras, tiene que ver más con la corrupción y la disposición y voluntad de los gobiernos.
Es por la tecnología, con las tuneladoras chinas la están haciendo bastante rapido, aparte que a comienzos del siglo Chile era el jaguar de latam y los recursos sobraban.
Aún no sé por qué no se han dignado de acercar un poco la 4A con plaza de maipu xd
The 4A Line can be extended to the L5 terminus and create a Loop 🤩🤩
hi!, a chilean here... that has been a plan from the beginning; but now there's this idea of extend line 6 from Lo Errazuriz to Plaza de Maipú (line 5); and line 4A to connect with Estación Central-Nos railway); that just guvernamental speculation however.
Anyway, right now we cant have a new station between Plaza de Maipú and Santiago-Melipilla railway because that sector isnt allowed to have building who harbor a lot of people (zoning planning of that commune).
Probably it can't to the L5 terminus (Plaza de Maipu) but two stations before (Del Sol), because the L4A line is build with the Avenida Vespucio Sur highway at both sides, so Del Sol is the only station it can intersect because its location.
But also both L4A and a part of L4 lines go though the Américo Vespucio ring road, so the "natural" option for a ring line would be following that highway.

no because there,s no way to directly connect the Viente Valdés and Vickuña Mackena ends since Line 4 is in the way, La Cisterna and Plaza de Maipú could be connected, but that piece of Line 4 would keep it from being a perfect loop
More extensions have been announced: L9 will be extended to connect with L2/L3/L7 in Cal y Canto and with L4 in Plaza de Puente Alto, replacing the L4 extension to Bajos de Mena.

I love your videos, and of course I especially loved your Santiago vid. As some of the comments have mentioned, they've recently updated the route the future Line 9 will be taking. It will now veer east near its southern end and will have its terminus at Plaza Puente Alto, where Line 4 also ends.

The best metro of Sudamérica
Some people call it the best Metro system on the entire American continent. Sure it's not the most extensive one but you have to appreciate how beautiful, clean and modern it is. I've seen Japanese people saying they like this Metro system better because stations are bigger, walls aren't completely covered in ADs and they feel it's even cleaner than theirs. The only thing this Metro system lacks is more expansion, otherwise it's an absolute S-tier compared to other Metro systems. Sure it can be a bit expensive but when you visit the more recent Metro stations (L3, L6 for example) it does feel like Metro is making its passengers feel the worth of each "peso" they're paying, expensive but super good, safe, clean and beautiful.

Batuco train and future Limache Puerto extensions are probably foreshadowing the revival of puerto alameda train....

Increíble como avanza y crece el Metro de Santiago, estaría bueno que la Línea 4A fuera expandida y conectada con la Línea 5 en Plaza de Maipú
En todo caso eso seria lo mas logico, aunque nose si en base a un estudio fuese tan importante para la gente ese trayecto, claramente conectaria mucho mas la capital
Deberían extender la línea 4 Desde Bajos de Mena hasta Lo Sierra (Combinando quizás con L4A) y hasta Ciudad Empresarial

I'd give line 4a to line 4 and give line 5 the southern section of the current line 4. Then Line 4 could eventually become a circle line
That would be great, but unfortunately they use incompatible rolling stock (rubber tyres vs steel wheels)
Originally it was thought that way. However, the extension to Puente Alto would have collapsed the entire L5. To avoid this, L4 was designed so it could connect faster PA with the business district Center (near Tobalaba) and not going through downtown like L5 does.
@@b1mbo Exactly. La Florida and Puente Alto are two of the biggest districts in Santiago. A transboarding station it's imperative for both as a starting point for a two-way system to reach Santiago's comercial and finnancial districts.
Curious enough. There exists enough room in the circle avenue (Americo Vespucio highway) to build up until the green line. It would be interesting to connect these areas (residencial and some commercial).
And you think that the designers did not realize that? In fact, at the vicuña mackena station on line 4 there is a third platform that shows that there was an intention to do what you say, but in the end they did not do it because the current line 4 has a high flow of passengers, and for their comfort It was decided to create line 4A, so that people who use line 4 from end to end would not have to transfer... That is the reason.

Son 136 estaciones si no me equivoco, ya que las estaciones de transbordo muchas están conectados por un túnel y cada una tiene entradas indepedendientes por distintas calles como la combinación plaza de Armas en la Línea 5 que tiene entrada en la Plaza de Armas y estación plaza de armas de línea 3 que tiene entrada en calle bandera y están conectadas por un túnel larguísimo.
Te olvidas mencionar los leones cuyo túnel Suecia o algo así es una cuncuna

Excelente, sin duda luego de 2030 (anunciado antes de esa fecha) los próximos pasos deben ser extender L6 a Plaza de Maipú o El Olimpo y la L4A (renombrada) hasta Del Sol o El Rosal. Luego ya posiblemente una L10 circunvalar por Dorsal, Las Rejas, Departamental.
Además de una línea que vaya de poniente a oriente paralela y al sur de la línea 1, desde Maipú hasta Las Condes.

It annoys me to no end that the 4A line exists. Seems like a perfect opportunity to give the southern half of 4 to 5, and make 4A part of 4 (and then make 4 a ring by connecting to the dangling west point of 5)

Originally, L4A was built as a different branch of L4 so there would be trains Tobalaba-La Cisterna and Tobalaba-Puente Alto. However, after construction started, Metro noticed that the amount of travellers towards Puente Alto was much higher than towards La Cisterna, so it didn't make any sense to have two different branches and thats why they kept L4A but as a different and smaller line. Really, the only possible outcome is to built the rest of the line to El Sol in L5.
Yeah I'm from Santiago and I always thought that but there's a reason.
Santiago's newest offices and shopping malls are in the richer part of the city, which is in the northeast, the working class lives in the southern part, so the most used commutes are from the southwest to the northeast, that's also why line 6 exist btw. Also if you live far from the subway you need to get a bus which can be an hour of travel just to get to the station, so it's already long enough the travel to need change lines unnecessarily.
The L4A line was build way before there was a plan to build the extension of L5 to the south, and there wasn't a lot of interest to extend so far that line due to population density and transportation patters.
But if in the future there is interest to do that, it is possible to extend the line to L5 - Del Sol because the highway were the 4A line goes, the Americo Vespucio Sur highway, is designed for that.
And you think that the designers did not realize that? In fact, at the vicuña mackena station on line 4 there is a third platform that shows that there was an intention to do what you say, but in the end they did not do it because the current line 4 has a high flow of passengers, and for their comfort It was decided to create line 4A, so that people who use line 4 from end to end would not have to transfer...
