    Isn't it better to leave in the ground for 2 weeks after the first frost date so the starches can turn into sugars and taste better?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 16 dny +1

      You can leave some varieties to store longer, for sure.....I haven't found anything sweeter than the young carrots.....even the extra sugars because of the cold can't touch young baby carrots.

    This had a perfect release date! I was just wondering about my carrots, as this year is the first time I've grown carrots.

    @FrozEnbyWolf150 Před 18 dny +1

    My carrots are grown from saved seeds, from the flowers that came from regrown carrot scraps, so I can't go by the seed packet. I typically end up having to guess, and the carrots tend to come out white instead of orange.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 16 dny +1

      Not having the seed packet isn't so bad as its the LEAST accurate way to tell if a carrot is ready. 🙂

      Use agro thrive fruit and flower fertilizer. That's what I did this year and had my best harvest ever. Happy gardening.

    No such info on British seed packets. Just a coloured bar of months when to sow and harvest. I got Nantes growing and Chantenays and some middle length variety I can't remember the name of offhand. Had to resow this year several times with the abysmal spring we had and totally lost track of when I sowed what in each variety bucket. But I am sure some of the Nantes should be ready soon. Though no sign of shoulders yet.

      Luckily the seed packet information is the LEAST accurate way to tell if a carrot is ready to pull or not! 🙂

    Wow I planted mine too far apart. Next planting will make them more dense.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 16 dny

      Yeah, people like to thin them, but they can grow right next to each other no problem. 2" (5cm) apart seems to be ideal.

    What does it mean when your carrots get extra little white roots on them? That's what the last of my carrots are doing now. I've been pulling them as needed for a meal and have some left. Should I pull the rest out? Thanks for sharing your tips.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Před 16 dny +1

      It normally means the soil is too rich in Nitrogen (N). No big deal as they rub off pretty easily. I say keep growing, but cut back on the nutrients.

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms that's what I have been thinking about my whole garden, a lot of green growth and very little fruits. I did a home soil test, it didn't show a high nitrogen level. I'm thinking those tests are unreliable. It might be time for a real soil test from my agriculture center. Thanks for your opinion.

      @@thinkwy13 It was the same for me, it took me years to get it right. I now might have too much nitrogen in my soil but I had one heck of a harvest this year. I fertilized with agro thrive fruit and flower liquid fertilizer. Don't give up, keep trying. Good luck 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕

    Unless you plan to process a load of carrots, just pick as needed. They dont stay fresh for long.
