- This is Whizz, she has had bad laminitis in the past which has left her with slightly distorted feet. #GaryHuston #Blacksmithing #Farrier #ASMR #Horseshoeing #Fabrication #Ironwork #Hoofcare #welder #repairs #horse #farriery #engineering
Don't know a thing about horses. But I watch these entire videos.
These are so satisfying to me and I don't know y
Years ago, I "inherited" an 18 year old Tennessee Walker mare that had a history of laminitis and a severe case of thrush. Her heel bulbs were mush and her frogs were nonexistent. After treating with a topical penicillin poultice for a few weeks, and a daily vinegar soak, her heel bulbs and frog stiffened right up. I kept her barefoot and trimmed her regularly for about a year. I'm no farrier, so I took her to a qualified farrier for shoes. She ended up being one of my best trail riding horses. I'm impressed with your precision mule mechanic work on that front left. Thumbs up!
I'm a Irish traveler and I've been around horses all my life and have seen a lot of guys doing this good & bad since I was a little boy this man is one of the best I've seen at it keep up the good work lad 👍
Hello Mr. Gary Huston
I am from REYHANLI in HATAY in TURKEY
I have a arabian horse and I am a horse lover.
You are a great master and animal lover.
I wish you continued success.
Thank you so much.
Had to read the description twice ;-) I thought maybe we were to start referring to you as Mr. Whizz :-D
It should be criminal to feel this relaxed. Lol
Gotta love that horseshoe-heart
That was really cool and now I know why you have more than 6 holes in a horse shoe. Great vid.
I find Your horseshoing videos wery relaxing to watch.
Great work
I love your little port-a-shed. Very stylish!
Best video!🐴❤️ your dog Ralph is so cute!!
Thanks
Loving the hammer work, amazing. Addictive videos ! Need to chat more
27:20 YumYum.... ;-) ... Hey Gary, I see you´re shoeing a laminitis horse with toe clips! Wow, and obviously it works! I´m amazed! I think, I´m gonna give that a try.. - Thanks for posting! Greetings from Bavaria! :-)
Ich könnte mir solche Videos 10 Stunden lang anschauen,es wird iergendwie nie faad....
Always fun to watch a real pro at work.
James Fontaine who are you watching🤣
I don't know, some guy shoeing horses.
Lol. 😊👍
Whizz really seems to know the drill. She picks up her hoof as you get near her. Some of the others that you have videoed do not appear to be as into the procedure. Is she better at that or am I imagining more cooperation than there really is?
I think some horses know the drill some horses are more comfortable around people than others
They look hard my friend. Fine job again
Shadeskast very, they have gone from soft to hard too quickly, they are down at least one shoe size! It’s no fun, my highly sharpener snips are struggling and rasps are lasting a few days!
Same here. Its tuff nailing a shoe on a hoof as hard as a brick. Heat wave, 95 degree no rain in weeks. Hard dry feet and stomping flies all day. Ugh 😢. All the pastures are brown and dead. No grass to eat.
Same as! I like the heat but this is getting silly!
I'm afraid to see how this will effect the hay season for the farmers. prices are already higher than last year.
Your the best man
Fantastic Videos
Do horses tend to be passive when having their hoofs reshod or do they have to be trained? I've had dogs that hate to have their feet touched (for trimming their nails) while others apparently could care less. I would think a fidgety horse could be dangerous.
HWPcville they need to be trained from birth, some still don’t cooperate even then!
Hey Gary
I dunno why but I’ve been obsessing this weekend with Ferrier videos. Competitions do instructional
Do you ever make your shows in the field from bar stick?
I had no idea how many different shoes there were!!.
Not in the field but at the workshop. Here are some I made at college czcams.com/video/H1OrR1Y3wfY/video.html
What did the dog eat? Or grab?? Lol cute dog too. This is so satisfying to watch.
A piece of cut off hoof, like a toenail clipping! They love them.
@@garyhuston thats ok for them..right...?
Why do you prefer hot-shoeing over just molding the shoe cold to fit the foot, and then do a cold shoe? Just curious as you seem to always hot-shoe the horses you do.
Jennifer Lehman hot shoeing is easier on my body and gets a better fit.
@@garyhuston Thank you for the explanation, greatly appreciate it. Have a great rest of the week Mr. Huston!!
Hey mate love all the vids I’m a farrier from Australia. Have you tried this girl with side clips on the front? Just to bring that toe back under her a little more, help with that distortion from the lamanitis.Just a question to see if you’ve tried it with her.
Cooper Fernance I’ve tried everything over the years, side clips, no clips, rolled toe, eggbar, heart bar, straight bar and always end up back with standard shoes.
Gary Huston some of them are just a pain in the but to get right aren’t they. Love your work mate keep it up.
Cooper Fernance the trouble is she gets it so often, you spend a year working on her then she gets it again! Then she might be free from it for a couple of years and you think you’re winning then she gets it again!
Gary Huston I know the type. I’ve got a few of those ponies that I work on. Always keeps you on your toes.
Thanks Gary. I can see why you want to park your truck close to the shoeing with so much back and forth. So how frequently does a horse need to be re-showed?
John Hartley typically six to eight weeks
Sometimes 4 to 5 in the summer.
Hello Gary,
USA here, really enjoy your videos. I was curious , do you make custom shoes ,say for lamanitis problems ? Thanks for sharing your videos.
Yes if needed although my local supplier keeps almost every shoe for every condition you can think of. So, if it’s urgent it’s often quicker and easier just to buy one!
Hey Rich Gary is a true craftsman, You should see his specimen board of shoes hand made, that he made back in the days when he was training to get qualified. its in one of he older videos. Its pretty impressive.
Currently we are having a serious drought in my country. Where it usually rains once a week or at least once every other week during the summer we have now gotten rain only twice in two months. My question is if you recommend soaking the feet in water for about 30min before knowing the farrier is coming? Some farriers here have said that it helps immensely when the feet are so dry and hard. Is it true?
Yes, it helps tremendously! If you can be bothered to do it your Farrier will be eternally grateful!
thanks for this great comment that comes with great information
Make a whole video on just shaping up the shoes
Like with the anvil
already have
👀
Gary Huston where
Go to his playlist named shoes and shoe making. He has 8videos there. #8 is his specimens made almost 40years ago when he was in college.
hi Gary ....i am a great fan of your work i try my self to get in this business ...so an advice needed and most important..how much it will take to be able to horseshoeing by my self ...consider me as a good handy man and i study this a lot but i am sure practice get perfection ....thanks and salutes from Guatemala
Ashraf Abbas I thin k I already told you. Find a farriery school near you or go to a country that has one.
Can you shoe a horse with back shoes on fronthof? o how do you know how big shoes you should have? sorry for the bad english..
Hi Gary. I don't know nothing about shoeing horses. And i've watched you on numerous occasions. but still can't figure out the reason why you make corrections on the shoe. Would it be too much to ask for maybe a commentary while your doing the work. Or would that knock you off your concentration. the patience of the horse amazes me. But i dare say that comes down to the farrier. great clip.
How am I to get the shoe to fit if I don’t alter it?
Thats what i mean.it looks fine to me.
It’s very simple, all feet are different, so the basic shape that a shoe comes in needs to be refined to the foot shape. Like pulling a piece of string around the lip of a mug. Start at the toe and work to the heel until it fit all round.
Well I admire your talent and Craft, You make it look simple, that's also an art. I just couldn't get my head round them fine adjustments, back and forth. I thought with the first burn, done job nail it on.Good health to you and yours.
There is only a few millimetres around the edge of a foot that can be nailed to without causing injury. The shoe must fit perfectly so it can be nailed. I guess if you didn’t know that it would seem odd my repeated fitting.
How many do you shoe in an average week and how in the world do you keep your back from giving out?
Not many these days, when I was an apprentice between two of us we would do anything upto fifty a week on a heavy week. Now I limit it to four a day. The back is dodgy but manageable with a few pain killers!
How important are the clips if the shoe gets nailed in so thoroughly?
Pretty important, they hold the shoe in place so the nails don’t get torn out when the horse is twisting and turning or taking off at speed. One on the front as it’s basically the steering end and two at the back because it’s the power source.
Hey gary do you play any pc games?FPS games?Cause i was playing one the other night and i swear the guy sounded like you.
No.
I have 1 question.Does the horse feel pain when you use the nails?
Nope!
Hey Gary! I really enjoy the videos, but why the silence? haha. It would be awesome if you could explain what you are doing and why. The way you trim and shoe a horse is very similar to the way I was taught with very few differences. One of the main differences is that we cold forge unless pulling clips or something of that nature. Keep up the good work and again, great videos!
this horse seem have a laminitis ?
izz abualrob read the description!
46 minutes
Cool
great work dude
Are those nails Copper ???
No, just copper plated
Do you think it's just as relaxing for the horse? xD
Blimington Bear I'd imagine it feels like getting a manicure or pedicure for the horse. Whizz looks as though she is content to stand there. You don't see or hear Whizz stomping a hoof or looking tense while Gary is trimming and reshoeing her. If she felt uncomfortable or in pain in any way, she would try to move away or try to free her hoof as it's being handled.
I imagine the horse would be a lot more nervous or agitated with an apprentice.
Not necessarily, if the apprentice is calm and quiet and knows what he is doing there should not be a problem..
Thanks Gary!
Any reason why he didn't trim the frog more ?
The hoof was probably at a point where it shouldnt go lower ans therefore since they need the frog part for stability he didnt see the reason to cut it more. To be honest i dont know myself but its anyones guess
@@naruto280100 that makes sense I think, thank you
just like clippin nails but much harder
l like you videos .. but why you don't talk in shoeing video?
Mohammed Aljuwaid why do you want him to talk in 40 mintue long video?
You seem to be at this same barn a lot. Lol
I am.
