    One of us! I shot mine with plastidip about 9 years ago after only removing the mirrors and it has held up very well but about time to re do it. This video will come in handy. I'm making a list of projects to take on while my steering wheel is off getting refurbished for the 10 year ownership anniversary of my 330ci ZHP. Mirror trim, paint parcel shelf and speaker grills, minor leather repair and dye, reglue seat back clips that are starting to come loose again, etc... Still in really good shape but I guess I'm shooting for great to excellent now!

      If the plastidip held up for 7-8 years, I'd recommend doing that again. It seems this product lasts only a year or so.

    You could just mask off the mirror after popping the glass out or even leave glass in and use the trim restorer on the black trim without all this ball ache, that what I did 🤷‍♂️

    My front cover was stolen WITH the foam, and i bight a replacement but i dont havce the foam. Can i mount it wothout foam?. I mean, its better than going around with everything exposed...

    • @crazzy88ss
      @crazzy88ss  Před 3 lety

      While taking it apart, I never really saw anything that indicated the foam was 100% required. I'm betting you could get away without it for quite a while.
      Ultimately, though, there must be some reason engineers put it there. I'm just not sure what it is for this situation.

    Coupe or sedan?
    EDIT: If you have the 2001 coupe, there are incredibly tiny philips screws that hold the trim piece on and they are most likely rusted. Have fun getting them out 😩

      This was from a sedan, but I think it's not different from a coupe. I have a coupe mirror too and it looks the same.

      I have a 2001 coupe and I can confirm that you do not have take off the tiny philips screws to just remove the back trim cover. I was able to remove mine the same way as shown in the video.

    I guess no one has asked you this question how long does it last last please be honest after so many car wash and rain how long does it last

    • @crazzy88ss
      @crazzy88ss  Před rokem +2

      Yea... I would say it has not lasted as long as I had hoped. It's been two years since I did this, and I'd say the black trim has lost 50% of the "shine." It's still better than it was without doing this, but if you want 100% perfection, I'd purchase the replacement parts for $40 per mirror. But there's no guarantee BMW will keep making those parts and $80 to make the black plastic look darker on my DD/track car isn't worth it. But it might be for others!
      I've used the black Solution Finish on lots of parts on my BMWs and I'll keep doing it as needed. I know lots of other people have had good things to say about it.

      @@crazzy88ss I guess I would have to probably just try to paint it and add clear coat to it to keep the shine thank you for your video
