  • hello everyone,
    here I show how to change the drive and loading belts on a 300 Sony CD changer, and cover some other basic faults that these machines suffer from.
    This also applies to the other Sony megajuke models, they all have the same basic design as to where the belts are located so you should be able to get your own machine up and running again if its just a general "table error" fault.
    Let me know in the comments if theres some other machines you would like a how to video for
    Be safe!

    Thank you for the great video. I just undertook the surgery to replace the two belts. It's 19 years old and the belts turned into bubblegum. Surprisingly it's actually easier than you make it look. I didn't even unload the carousel. Disconnecting the 4 cables from the board is probably the riskiest part.
    I'm a retired machinist, tool maker and mechanical engineer and I see things most people don't see. What I saw in this machine is astounding. The care and detail is outstanding. The quality of the plastic injection molding is superb. Especially the carousel. That's a single piece and to mold that with those 300 dividers is no simple task.
    Thanks again.

    How to find replacement belts - Search for: 2 Drive Belts and 1 Door Belt for Sony 300 400 CDP-CX300 CDP-CX400 CD Player Belts
    Several results found on Amazon, Ebay, etc. These fit multiple models of the Sony Carousel style players. Set of all 3 belts should be under $10 including shipping.
    As the video mentioned, to replace the door belt you need to remove the carousel to get underneath it.

    Great video! I first watched another video which emphasized removing all of the parts above the belts in order to access them. I quickly realized that even if i did get all of the parts removed, I would never remember how to reassemble them correctly. Fortunately, I came across your video a short time later, and found the process much more simple and straightforward. Thanks for the informative video! I put some new belts on a Sony CX-355, 300 disk player. What tool do you use for adjusting the sensors? An oscilloscope?
    I think there may be something wrong with the sensors but I really have no clue. When I turn it on, the table/carousel rotates a bit then reverses direction, it does that a few times and then stops. It won't even get a disk ready to play or eject one. It displays 'Table Error'. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    • @Sortitoutman
      @Sortitoutman  Před 3 lety +3

      yeap a scope is the best way, but what you describe sounds like a damaged table causing a sensor error - the tables going back and forth as it cannot locate its position - remove it and turn it over, there`s a row of tiny tabs that run along the edge all the way round - the sensor "counts" these tabs to work out where the table is - you often find that some are missing from mis-use, so check they are all there - look for any gaps that are not constant (i.e too big). Only way to fix is either with some crafting plastic and patience, or a replacement table.

    Changed belts but carousel not traveling far enough to load disk into playing mechanism. If I push the carousel slightly forward it loads but on completion of disk play reads table error. Is there a way to adjust the table to move it just a touch farther than where it is stopping?

    • @Sortitoutman
      @Sortitoutman  Před 3 lety

      You`ve either got a sensor out of alignment, or (more likely) a bent plastic pin under the turntable which the sensors count for position.

    Great video, many thanks, my CDP-CX355 (that I got maybe back in 2001) now has 2 new belts that work great. But there is an additional fault that I don't know how to fix, can you give a suggestion? This fault was present before the belt changes. The unit grabs each CD but almost always is unable to play the cd, it just spins for some time, then moves to the next disc , and this repeats. I don't see an error message. Occasionally it will play, or play some of the tracks and then the fault reappears. I cleaned the laser with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton-bud as you did, but it does not change the symptom. Any suggestions?

      @Sortitoutman  Před 2 měsíci

      could be the alignment is out (theres a screw on the clamp) or its dirty, or just needs a new laser - they can be found on ebay for not much money

    • @Sortitoutman
      @Sortitoutman  Před 3 lety

      You have at least one broken plastic positon tab under the turntable so the sensors cannot count the position of the tray. I mention this in the video.

    Good Morning.
    Your video is very well explained.
    I'm from Brazil and I got this used cd player. This cdplayer was stopped for about 5 years.
    I didn't know there were cds inside it.
    There were about 100 cds inside the device and I had a few that were out of the tray.
    After I removed all the cds with the device turned off.
    After that I turned on the cdplayer, I put about 5 cds. I put it in position 1 to 5 and pressed play and the tray rotates, the cd goes to the reader. I can hear the cd coming in.
    Then on the screen it appears on cd 1 that it has X songs, but nothing else appears. Music 1 does not appear playing. I switched to cd 2, 3, 4 and 5 and the same problem happened.
    As I work with computers and the technology is basically the same and I've seen the same problem, I think this is a problem with the reader or laser lens.
    If you have any other ideas, I would like to try to solve this problem, as I found the device amazing and would not like to throw it in the trash.
    Thank you so much.

    Hi I have a question. My mothers 350 quit working and I took the top off and immediately saw that the belt was off. I ordered 2 belts from ebay and am gonna go ahead and change both when they get here but I noticed that the disc tray doesn't spin freely when I tried to move it with my hand. Does that mean I have a bigger problem than just the belt being off the pulley?

      either sensor alighment, or you are missing a tooth from the bottom of the turntable which the laser counts (happens when people try to fit new door belts!)
