    A massive thanks for these instructions; without them we wouldn't have had a chance of fixing our (now 29 years old) Sony CDP-715E. Whilst the internals were a bit different to the unit shown in the video, with 4 hands & a bit of logic (and a new belt, at only 6€) we got it done. Thanks again!!!

      Hi, I see you payed in euro so I had to ask where you got the belt as I’m also in a euro zone! Thanks, rob in ireland

    This is perhaps another quick and easy repair. A light clean of the pulleys / optical pickup, a new belt and the unit is back in business. No blown capacitors or any other faults found. Just a weak loading belt. The way I determine if a belt is healthy or not (when replacing originals with new ones), is the "elasticity test" (gently stretch it a tiny bit, and if it springs back quickly, it's OK; if it springs back very slowly, it's bad and should not be used).

    A big thank you for these clear instructions! Without them I wouldn’t have been able to fix it. And to be honest it was quite easy to replace the belt and clean the player. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    Just want to say thank you very much indeed for this video - I have a very similar model, the CDP-XE220 and this video gave me the confidence to take it to bits and replace the belt which has brought it back to life.

    Sir, Just how does a bad belt cause this issue? I was thinking a tray position sensor or switch. As always - thank you!

    Interesting failure mode for a slipping belt. I have a CDP-XE530 that should have the same mechanism. No troubles though with the tray.

    • @Galleitch
      @Galleitch Před rokem +2

      The rack at the bottom of the tray which the motor drives with a toothed wheel turns around in a J shape at the point the tray closes. This turns the driving wheel on a cam which lifts up the disc into the playing position. The slipping belt couldn't supply enough power to operate the cam, so it would just give up and reopen.

    Hi, i have a yamaha cd-x3 cd player that has a problem with the laser sled not moving, when i move the sled manually the laser reads the disk.
    I have down loaded a digital repair manual for the unit but as of yet not gone over it in depth. Can you suggest a point to start looking into what the problem might be? Thank you for the great videos and all the wonderfull work you have done over the years! Big Fan.

    It looks like they used the parts for a bookshelf stereo and stuck them in a bigger enclosure.

    I have a sony CDP CE315 disk cd player keeps opening and closing and it was playing a cd I did not install- so wondering if it is stuck inside- when I put all 5 cds in the trays it wont do anything and it wont play any. Thanks

    • @norcal715
      @norcal715  Před 5 měsíci

      With the tray open, take off the top cover off and visually see if there is a loose disc inside. It may have oxidized tray in-out limit switches. You may need some deoxit D5 to clean the switch.

    I have a Sony MHC 550 and the drawer keeps popping open slightly after closing, it will still play and when I skip a disk it will always go back in and work as should but then pops back open ( about an inch ) every time. I replaced all belts cleaned lens etc already but still persists . Any ideas welcome

    • @norcal715
      @norcal715  Před rokem +1

      You will need to disassemble the unit and look at the drawer in-out switch(s) and possibly spray a little electrical contact switch cleaner in them, work them back and forth many times (50 to 100) and see if it helps. Most likely the switches are oxidized, and not making good contact.

    How did you actually remove the tray completely before removing the transport coz that part wasn’t shown in your video?

    • @robburnley1027
      @robburnley1027 Před rokem

      I've just done this belt change today and did question that this is missing from the video. The very front of the drawer can be slid off (upwards direction - take extreme care not to damage the drawer by forcing it). Remove the 3 screws holding the drawer assy inplace (on the base as shown in the video approx 2:39) then with the front of the tray removed you can lift the whole assy off the base and away from the front panel inlet. Pull the tabs on the drawer up and then you can slide the tray away from the rest of the assy. I didn't disconnet the ribbon cables when i did so just rested against the the back of the front panel. All up and running now. Thanks to NorCal715 for the video.

      Thank you, @robburnley1027, for your advice! I have managed to separate the front of the drawer in the CDP-XE570 by following your guidance. The next step is to replace the belt!

  • @danielcooper7718

    A slightly different model, the CDP-XE570. Does anyone know how to separate the tray from the CD player, as it could not be removed from the front? I mean to separate the front of the drawer. By the way, @robburnley1027 suggested sliding it off in an upwards direction. It didn't appear to work in the CDP-XE570 upon the first attempt, but it worked with a second attempt. Thank you, @robburnley1027, for your advice!
