    Remember the movie "The Natural" with Robert Redford as a baseball player? I think Tatiana is the ultimate Natural. She is SO good at what she does. I don't believe there's anyone better. Yeah, she had to work hard, probably for years, to develop THAT. But she has no idea how she does it. It's just something she feels. She doesn't think it's fry! She says she can't fry! She has several times forgotten how to scream. She had to relearn. And each time it comes back differently she says. She says she liked one of the earlier versions better!
    We're witnessing some unicorn shit here folks. God knows where that other self comes from that's sitting in Tatiana's head, setting snares for her soul, but that mofo can SCREAM! I feel blessed to witness it, and I'm catching it live every chance I get!

    I think everyone tends to push new reactors toward the live sessions, concert vids, and studio sessions like this because otherwise it's so easy to just assume there's some kind of backend editing happening to get that sound when you're watching a packaged product like a music video. Gotta bring people into the fold right and let them know Tatiana just does this. No editing tricks here. She's a vocal BEAST. Wallflower is incredible, though. Would definitely recommend it. Vortex is another of my favorites. Home Back as well - that one they released shortly after Russia invaded their home country of Ukraine. Very obvious critique on the senselessness of war. Amazing video.
    Also the more you react to Jinjer and Falling in Reverse, the more convinced I am that you'll love Electric Callboy so I'm gonna recommend Electric Callboy - We Got The Moves again. No rush, I know you're a busy dude with a lot going on but they're another super unique Metal band just kinda chilling in their own lane, doing their own thing, very different from the other metal bands out there.

  • @cyberia55
    @cyberia55 Před 6 dny +2

    Dude! Awesome reaction. Definitely do Wallflower. One of the more interesting aspects of their craft is that aside from a few cases the music is written by the guys (Roman/Eugene/Vlad) and is essentially complete - except it has no title, lyrics or melody. They present the music to Tatiana, and she then listens to it to get the vibe and creates the title, lyrics and vocal melody for the track. Eugene has said that often they go to the recording studio having no idea what she’s come up with until they hear it. Wallflower is all about the incredible pressure of that responsibility, and how she tries to cope with it.

    • @ericpeterson7512
      @ericpeterson7512 Před 6 dny +1

      Exactly. She just finished that whole process (including vocal tracking) like yesterday or the day before! I am excite! Actually, the music video to Judgement & Punishment is really dope. Her accent is MUCH more noticeable when they recorded it. They perform both Vortex and Wallflower during the interview, as well as a FANTASTIC song with no video called 'Dead Hands Feel No Pain'. The interview parts give a good idea of each band member's personality. It's one of the few interviews I have seen where Roman (the guitarist) and Vlad (drummer) have more to say than just a word or two. Their English is getting much better. If you ever heard her do it without a microphone, the harsh vocals would be VERY quit, compared to her clean vocals. That's why it seems so effortless. It's not done with a lot of pressure or force, it's a very soft, crackly vocal fry in the aryepiglottic folds and vestibular vocal cords (false cords). In fact, she probably stresses her voice more when she does a mode 1 or mixed mode belt. She likely has a heavily compressed mic, with the gains set to her very soft speaking level. So when she actually sings, and it's loud, the compression doesn't allow for a volume change to the audience.

    • @ericpeterson7512
      @ericpeterson7512 Před 6 dny +3

      She probably stresses her voice more when she's TALKING. As I'm sure you know, since your post is very knowledgeable, talking loudly actually hurts the voice much more than harsh vocals done properly. Tatiana is a freak of nature. But this is just another reason I'm not lining up for the meet & greets. I wish she wouldn't talk before or after shows. No interviews either, or very few. I think she's still quit of cigarettes and alcohol. But she doesn't warm up before shows either. She kinda scares me 😂. I want her to keep on doing what she does for decades to come! I seriously wanna hook her up with Melissa Cross.

    Ah bro you are fun to react with! You have excellent ears. This music is not your wheelhouse (yet) but you pick up on shit right away. Your very quick take on the lyrics was spot on once again.
    But this video is the one that really shows up close how she does her craft. Have you ever? She is just so good it's undeniable. Like Whitney Houston at the Grammys. You know you're witnessing greatness.
    Everything about Tatiana is fire. She's easy to fall for bro. Your wife won't mind--she might fall for Tati too! The shows I've been to, Tatiana could've had anyone in that building, man woman or child 😂. The funny thing is though, metal chick that she is, and she does love her makeup and her clothes, but she really doesn't sexualize. Like at all. Even before she was married, she really didn't go there, from what I've seen. She's just smokin without trying.
    There are a lot of things that set Jinjer apart from other bands. One of my favorites is how they mash genres together. You're getting four, five, six genres in one song! And they're not just throwing shit in randomly for novelty. It fits. It makes sense. It fkn grooves hard! Who else does that? I'll wait...
    Yep, you're starting to realize it. Just like I did at about this point in my discovery of Jinjer. This might be the best band you've ever heard. The more you listen, the more sure you'll get. Just wait till you see them live. They're getting ready to go on tour right now bruv. They'll be in America in September and October. In small to medium venues, lots of House of Blues shows. General admission. Cheap. Time to get your lady into Jinjer and get you some tickets. They're on sale right now. Just sayin. This will become your favorite band. Imagine being in the front row, and having Tatiana make eye contact with you as she's doing that. You can make that happen. It's like witnessing Elvis or something bro. You'll want the sweaty handkerchief 😂

    Yo homie pls react to wallflower by jinjer

  • @barefootalien
    @barefootalien Před 21 hodinou

    Alright, lemme give you the low-down on a few things.
    First off, great catch as usual with the meaning. The original song and video's meaning is arguably a little different, but this particular one-take was _specifically_ a 'fuck you' to doubters and haters, with the line "This is what it is. I know your pissed-off, narrow minds cannot believe what they hear..." hitting pretty hard. It was recorded in her boyfriend's home studio in Cali while the boys were in Ukraine in the opening months of the escalation when Russia began directly and openly invading. The boys stayed in Kyiv, doing relief work, building and renovating shelters, donating all proceeds from the band to local businesses and organizations that got destroyed, especially arts-related; for example, they donated a bunch of money to a concert venue that they'd performed at that was hit by strike missiles, to help it rebuild. Finally, President Zelensky _ordered_ them to leave the country, stating that he felt they'd serve Ukraine better as cultural ambassadors than building shelters, and they started touring again. (They actually managed to put out one OMV and a couple of green-screen drum playthroughs _during_ that time, the playthroughs recorded in bunkers... just awesome stuff.)
    "Where are these guys from, what's their background?"
    Jinjer is from Donetsk, Ukraine. In 2014, shortly after the war began there, with Russian separatists taking over the region, they literally fled for their lives, mostly on foot or hitchhiking across the country toward Kyiv, with just the instruments they could carry, _literally_ singing for their supper along the way like bards. Along the way, their at-the-time 'original' (to their current sound; they started off as a punk band) drummer 'fell' out of a second-story window in a building they were squatting in and broke his back, paralyzing himself. They picked up his replacement, a session drummer named Dmitriy Kim, who you'll see in some of their music videos (that original drummer, who recovered some functionality later on, is also in a couple of videos). Dmitriy didn't like the touring life, so after a couple of albums, stepped back to be a session musician again, and the current drummer, Vlad, friend of the band already, who is conservatory-trained in classical piano and self-taught the drums when _his_ old band's drummer quit suddenly, stepped in.
    Dmitriy still does a lot of work with the band, engineering, producing, mixing, etc. He was a fine drummer, very skilled, but also pretty mechanical, kind of _too_ precise. Vlad approaches the drums like they're a piano, and while you can see a clear and dramatic progression in his skill from the early days (Pisces studio-live session you started with was literally his first recording; they re-recorded the song to showcase his ideas, which are _very_ different (and IMO objectively better) than Dmitriy's original take on it) he's also the driving force behind their maturity in composition in their last three releases (Micro, Macro, and Wallflowers). The current lineup is probably also the 'forever' lineup. It's the most stable, longest-lasting, and they all have _amazing_ chemistry with each other. Vlad and Eugene (drummer and bass player) often describe it as feeling like they're one single person playing a single combined instrument, they're so locked-in together.
    Needless to say, they're a band that got their depth and unique personality the hard way, maybe the only way: through real hardship and suffering, and fighting through it to find success anyway. They talk about real stuff, in real ways, and they make the sound they want to make, and they're lucky that Napalm is a pretty hands-off label that really encourages that kind of creativity.
    It's very much a "the band, and the vocalist" sort of band, so influences are complicated. The boys cite bands like Opeth, Pantera, Lamb of God, Gojira... but clearly Vlad also takes inspiration from classical greats, especially Russian ones (there's a video on his channel or Jinjer's of him playing Rachmaninoff's Prelude in G# Minor that's pretty good!). Tatiana cites bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana, The Offspring, and Gwen Stefani, specifically in No Doubt. Though she loves Jinjer and has no plans of leaving it, she has at times expressed some regrets. Her heart is, to some degree, in reggae and jazz, which is probably _why_ they have so many fusion sections (reggae, bossa nova, lounge jazz; they pepper those kinds of influences in all over the place).
    Amusingly, no current member of the band knows why it's called Jinjer, or what it means. They all joined after, with almost no crossover between any current members and any founding members, but the name works, so they kept it.
    "Why aren't people recommending videos?"
    Well... as a community, we Jinjer fans have seen literally _hundreds_ of reactors go through the opening acts of the Jinjer rabbit-hole. Maybe thousands. I'm not saying yours aren't great reactions; they are! But they're also _fairly_ typical. It goes like this:
    1. Everybody starts out with Pisces (Live Studio Session). It's pretty chill at the start, and almost nobody is gonna be offended by the opening arpeggiated sort of dark jazzy pop sound, and then the shock factor of that first growl is like everybody's favorite thing. BUT. It's a _studio_ session. While every sound you hear _was legit recorded on that day in that studio in front of those cameras,_ it's also a fully-produced studio sound, with multi-tracking, effects, mixing, production, etc, which leaves just enough of a window for skepticism that the next track is always, always...
    2. Perennial, Live at Wacken 2019. Arguably there are even better live performances that are more recent, but this was one of the first truly pristine live recordings (Wacken is legendary for their live engineering prowess, and always make bands sound just effing epic) and at this point we're like, half a decade into the trope, so Perennial is second, period. It dispells any remaining skepticism about whether she can really do that live.
    3. This one depends on the reactor. For metalheads who like screaming/growling, it's usually "Who Is Gonna Be The One, Live at Atlas". It's one of their heaviest, most hardcore early tracks, it's a solid recording, it has Vlad as the drummer, the crowd is super into it, and has one of her deepest-ever growls... plus a nice little surprise twist ending that musician-musicians enjoy. For non-metalheads, especially rappers, hip-hop-heads, R&B fans, counter-culture types, and prog metal fans, it's generally Teacher, Teacher (OMV) because it has rap/spoken word elements, is very proggy and intricate, and the surprise heavy recap ending always gets people pumped up. You kinda fit both of those niches, but people leaned toward Teacher, Teacher, probably mostly because you're a rapper yourself. It wouldn't have been where _I_ would've sent you given your love of music videos and production; that'd be Wallflowers or maybe Home Back, but those aren't in the cards for Jinjer Rabbit Hole #3, so Teacher, Teacher it is.
    4. For anyone with some remaining skepticism, vocal coaches and singers, or someone who the community thinks would like a reggae fusion track, Judgement (& Punishment) live one-take is usually next. For someone obsessed with live, often something from Live in Kyiv... I mean, there are a lot more options here, but you pretty well pigeon-holed yourself into this one with the remaining skepticism about her voice. xD
    And now we get to open up to more personalized recommendations, heh. And since Wallflower literally popped up as a card in the ending overlay, and it's also _clearly_ one of the best choices for you as a reactor, you're getting that recommended overwhelmingly (which I wholeheartedly agree with), and I'm guessing that's what's up next. Followed by either Vortex or Home Back.
    Oh, the other thing is... Jinjer kind of has three kinds of videos. _Many_ of their OMVs are just performance videos, like Teacher, Teacher. For those songs, _if_ there's a live recording that's on par or better, we recommend those. For Teacher, Teacher, there isn't. Dunno why; there just isn't. I Speak Astronomy is another one where there just isn't a very good live version available, plus the video is so dope that even though it's a performance video, if a very creative one (green-screen performance, not live performance) it's hard to recommend an iffy live take over the vid. (It's just a _hard_ song to sing live, and if her in-ears aren't perfect and her voice really on that night, it gets pretty bad in terms of being off-pitch, sometimes up to like, a minor third flat.)
    Obviously the second kind are live videos, and I kinda already covered that. Then there are the story-driven videos. I'd say that's something like half of them, and you're definitely gonna start getting those recommended now that you've gone through "the gauntlet". Honestly, the standard intro for new reactors really is pretty well thought out; crowdsourcing does work sometimes, heh. It just doesn't _happen_ to have any full-production OMVs in it, that's all. Just bad luck for you. ;) But you've 'graduated' now, so yeah, definitely check out Wallflower; Home Back; Vortex; I Speak Astronomy; Sit, Stay, Roll Over; Disclosure (the one with the original drummer featured in it as the interrogator)... hell, maybe even Judgement (& Punishment) OMV, which is a _fantastic_ video, it just usually loses out to the "Oh so you're still a skeptic, well here's a one-take for ya" crowd).
    Enjoy the journey! There's nobody else doing what Jinjer does. Nobody. They were forged in war and fire and hardship, and you just can't fake that.
