@@thutty5666 Ehhhh....Elwes does a great Errol Flynn impression in this movie, so it is questionable if the modern viewers would have been ready for a serious swashbuckler style movie.
Can we give credit to how unbelievably awesome the stuntmen were in this? I’ll bet money those dummies had reinforcement, but only a bit to allow impact. Those stuntmen perfectly made it look like they got knocked over without disturbing the dummies WHILE riding on horses! Amazing!
I was just about to say the same thing. Those are highly dangerous stunts, even for trained stuntmen. Remember, actor Christopher Reeve accidentally fell off a horse and was paralyzed due to the injury. These guys know exactly how to fall and where to hit the ground. Stuntwork really is an underappreciated specialty
My absolute favorite part aside from the 4th wall look in 0:45, is the fact Blinkin is just looking the opposite way and actually tracks the entirely wrong way as Will is riding, even though he SHOULD hear the horse galloping past him.
Mel Brooks worked with both Pryor as a writer on Blazing Saddles and Chapelle in Men in Tights (who came up with a fair amount of his own comedy bits that Mel kept in the film).
This movie I think has gotten more popular over the years especially with the newer generation. Which im glad because Mel Brooks movies are like a fine wine and get better with age.
They're hopeless, but not more hopeless than the Teen Titans Go team. You really got to feel bad for Robin, for what he has to put up with from the other titans.
The first time I saw this, I thought that the dummy line was a setup for something later. Robin was actually going to rig the dummies up in some kind of puppet thing and use them to fight, or trick the sheriff's men.
I like how the dummy helmets are family sized V8, Campbell's, and fruit cocktail cans. And the labels are right side up, which means someone opened the bottom of the can.
To be fair, back quivers are anachronistic and difficult to use even on a good day. In a battle you'd definitely have one at your side or your arrows arrayed out point down in the ground.
Fun fact: Will is the same actor who played Doctor Darling in Control! I remember when I first played it seeing him I was like he seems so damn familiar, only later did I realize he was in robin hood men in tights lol
Agreed, the USA work their butts off to train the afghan army and help them build up courage. And when the time comes to defend themselves and their home, they run away like frightened chickens and pile up on air planes just to save their skins. Unbelievable😞
best part for me is when Dave said maybe we should take the dummies in to battle and Robin really thinks about
It's not a bad idea. Dummies are used in the Ukraine war to bind military forces.
Considering the Sheriff's men weren't much better, it probably would have been at least an even fight between the two sides
The dummies that fell? Or the dummies that stood?...
@@Out2theIndoors....yes
You mean Achoo?
I never noticed Robin giving Will a treat before. That's hilarious
When I was a kid, I 💀 when I saw that! Will gets a Scooby snack!
If I remember correctly, in at least one version of Robin Hood, Will Scarlett is Robin's nephew, which adds another layer.
Cary Elwes was actually a fantastic robin hood.
"Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent!"
Agreed, he would have been great playing the role in a 'serious' film!
He's one of my favorite actors.

This movie was a gem!
Most Mel Brooks movies are.
Was?.. Is!
Some of Brooks' worst jokes, and some of his best. I love it all the same!
Still is and always will be.
Classic movie

I was thinking that myself. Same with the bow sequence: they screwed up without anyone getting hurt.
That's a brilliant shot - absolutely hats off to the stuntmen

I like how Dave is wearing backwards snapback style cap.
The 90's were a magical time
Very accurate to the medieval period too!
Its those slight jokes in Mel Brooks movies that make him such a National Treasure. I dont think he's appreciated as much as he should be.
I love the 4th wall breaking with the cans lmao
Me too hahaha
Robin Hood looking at us (in the camera) is also wall breaking. But I think they never had any 4th wall to begin with in this movie :)
Agreed haha
Achoo: man, we should take the dummies into battle
I looked up this scene just so I could watch that part
The way the arrow fires backwards was one of my favorite things as a child and it’s still hilarious to me to this day.
"Alright gentlemen, grab your feathered caps, jodkins, boldkens, boots, swords, quivers and pantyhose" 🤣
I love that they just had that stuff handy! 😆
Mel Brooks a comedian legend.
YES.
My absolute favorite part aside from the 4th wall look in 0:45, is the fact Blinkin is just looking the opposite way and actually tracks the entirely wrong way as Will is riding, even though he SHOULD hear the horse galloping past him.
I never noticed that before 🤣
That's amazing, hadn't noticed that
0:55 - I crack up every time I hear that offscreen yell.
Mel Brooks worked with both Pryor as a writer on Blazing Saddles and Chapelle in Men in Tights (who came up with a fair amount of his own comedy bits that Mel kept in the film).
I feel like Robin would have to be at least a little bit impressed by the guy that somehow managed to shoot his arrow backwards.
" keep your eye on Will" * Blinkin looks the opposite way 😂😂
0:45 low key the funniest part of the movie.
My fiance always makes fun of me because i make that face and gesture when i see something I either contemplate and criticise lol
🫤 Hmph.
"Good boy!" 🤣🤣🤣
Historically credible events.
0:58 give that man an actual longbow, with that kind of pull power he should be able to nail a french knight in armor at 500 yards
I’ll never get over Blinkin “watching” Will’s charge
He heard him coming a mile away.

Training with a long bow did take years of practice.
The last guy that bends the bow and looks confused about it afterwards I have a feeling that it would be me doing that
The first time I saw this, I thought that the dummy line was a setup for something later. Robin was actually going to rig the dummies up in some kind of puppet thing and use them to fight, or trick the sheriff's men.
I love how Dave Chappelle has a backwards hat in his cap
1:00 It's funny because that would actually cause arrows to have more damage. It's called a reflex bow, and Mongols used that bery well.
Funniest Robin Hood movie ever

Probably Blinkin.

He doesn’t looked phased at how bad they were at archery 😂 his look was like well that’s to be expected.
The way he looks at the camera, then back at the men. And that "hm!"😂

Love how blinkin's head turns the wrong way
This is basically training local villagesr against a bandit attack in Mount & Blade

Somehow I can heard audio just from read this lol
