I watched it in slow motion 1/4 playback speed several times, and given where he eyes appeared to be pointed, it looks accidental to me. But as far as "remorse/disregard" goes,,, since when do coaches teach their players (in any sport) this? From what I've seen, especially with MMA for example, people are taught domination & total destruction tactics. THIS,,, seems like commonality to me. An accident happened and someone's feelings got hurt.

You could argue either...she did not fully swing the elbow, but then again it could have been purposely to hit but not so it looks malicious so not sure...the fact she did not apologize for it I get as well, you are in the heat of the moment and possibly if it was not purposeful she might have thought the girl got hurt her own fault for being too close, or possibly it was purposeful but she felt she deserved it for a perceived or actual cheap-shot prior...I play contact sports so though I like to watch basketball I always felt the people playing were not as tough as those who play my sport (rugby) so if someone feels I am a bit unsympathetic towards the girl who got hit or am excusing the girl who did the elbow, realize I have a different mindset in terms of how to play a sport because of the sports I play...

As a player it is dirty to throw your elbows around like that which is why she got a technical, but honestly getting hit in basketball is literally bound to happen because it’s a physical sport. The guard got up in the forwards space doing what she should do playing physical then the forward was dirty and threw her elbows around and hit her in the face during a game. It’s not the same as going up to a random stranger on the street then proceeding to beat them with an elbow one is more serious than the other hence why one is assault. Things like this elbowing, getting hit are very common in physical contact sports. You probs just never played or aren’t very physical or good when you have played. You literally will get hit at some point throughout ur sports career.

No. The defender was overly aggressive and fouling her prior to that. The player with the ball swung her elbow but didnt' follow through on it. It looked like more of a reaction to the defender being on her back than anything else. You aren't allowed to just drape on another player body-to-body. Ref should have called the foul on the player in black before it got to that. Player in black was on her like she was playing post defense. People who do this on a rebound are extremely annoying.

Players are allowed personal space to stand vertically. I hate when defenders stick their face in another players personal space and think they have the right to occupy that space. You defend with your hands, not your face.
I can't stand players who want to "play defense" after a rebound by trying to "get physical." It's annoying. All her teammates were back down the court and she's trying to do a full-court press.

If you are getting fouled, there is plenty of reason to. Dumb players love to swipe at the ball on a rebound. Often they hit nothing but arms and the refs don't call it. It gets annoying. I think the red meant to elbow her in the chest, not the face. But again, the defender was overly aggressive and sticking her face in the player's pivot zone.
