    It's very easy to make.
    I was able to bend a Φ4 mm stainless wire.

    Important warning as a material engineer: Don't use the wires bended with bolts in applications where it will be under load since it might create cracks, scratches etc on surface which might lead to failure. Other than that, that is very cool and a very cheap method for bending for aesthetic purposes, nice one. A good and a future proof improvement would be adding small bearings to those bolts :)

      As an M.E. use common sense on what you define as a load... putting any bent wire under load might lead it to failure in the end, everything breaks eventually with the right force. bearings are a solid idea!

    Does anyone know what those are called in english? On the Amazon page that his link goes to, Google translates the product as a "feather plate bolt", but when I searched for that phrase on the US Amazon site it comes up with badminton sets. 🙄

    • @papalevies
      @papalevies Před 3 lety

      It looks like it's a Japanese product for joining wooden beams of wooden houses. I doubt you will find it ouside of Japan. Maybe use a blowtorch at the end of a steel rod and whack it with a hammer a few times. Or weld steel plate on a steel rod.
      The badminton set probably came up because they kind of look like mini rackets. I guess their Japanese name is something similar to that.

    • @kleckerklotz9620
      @kleckerklotz9620 Před 3 lety +2

      I guess that's lost in translation. I tried to find something similar on the German market. But no results. Also tried it with flat leaf bolt and turnbuckle bracing. But also a negative here. I'd say you don't need that exact product. Get yourself a thick strip of metal. Drill three holes in it, tap them, grind the other end of your strip to get some round edges and wrap some leather oder cloth around it. :)

    • @Ace-zb5xr
      @Ace-zb5xr Před 3 lety +3

      You can use any decent steel flat bar. The longer, the more leverage you'll have. It's better to use a flat bar because you'll have a larger flat surface for bending rods and keeping it all in the same plane.

      My guess is "no".
      I've seen plumbers use a similar tool to bend copper pipes. They stuff a special spring down the pipe first to stop it from kinking. I've also seen someone filling a pipe with sand before bending. In both cases they are making the pipe solid before bending it.

    • @peterneumann7145
      @peterneumann7145 Před 3 lety +2

      Bending tubing is complicated as the walls tend to collapse especially at the bend leaving either total collapse or a severe restriction. To maintain constant diameter requires special techniques and can involve complicated machines, mandrills,etc. Some common get outs are filling the tube with molten lead- care needed. Or sand which is not quite as good. The plumbers spring works ok for small diameter copper tube but not seen other diameter of spring. You are stretching the material a long way on the outside of the bend and compressing it on the inside. Good luck
