In this video, Matt tests the hypothesis that the Lotus Evora 400 is exactly the car you want if you wish Acura made a new version of the old NSX. And to even the odds a bit, the NSX we've chosen is one we've seen before, on our show /TUNED. This 1991 NSX features a Comptech Supercharger good for 400 crank horsepower, plus upgraded suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires.
Lotus provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of gas for this and other videos.
Special thanks to Regan Yu for providing the Acura NSX for this video. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Likening the Evora 400 to the old NSX has to be one of the greatest compliments you could've given it
The NSX had no idea it would be compared to a 2018 super car. Bravo Honda.

It's modded
Honda NSX is super car.
@@lexuslfa7003 Acura**NSX is an exotic car.
@@diasporael7563 It was called an Acura for the north american market only

I actually enjoy Matts ads. They have to make money somehow, and a lot of these products are actually good. His signature blend of bee line coffee is pure gold.
thanks! Glad you like the coffee! Version 2.0 just got released and it's super tasty!
TheSmokingTire I do wish they kept the original so I could compare as that was probably my favorite blend of coffee ever. Stoked to get paid so I can pick up the 2.0 though.
Wtf theres a Coffee?? Wheres that @??
As a 2005 NSX owner and former owner of a 2007 Exige S and 1995 NSX, I did think the Evora was a modern version of NSX when it was introduced in model year 2010 as far as driving dynamics. Where the Lotus fell short was in build quality, reliability, dealer network, depreciation., etc. I almost bought a 2011-2012 Evora S several times but something always broke or wasn’t working during the test drive, so I figured I would jump with both feet in and bought an Exige S instead. The Exige S was a blast to drive but every little thing broke and the squeaks and rattles would drive you crazy but I did sell it for a $10k profit which sounded good but my 95 NSX I sold for double what I paid for it. I did drive the Lotus 400 Press car last year and it is so much better than the original Evora. I will buy a slightly used one at some point. Unfortunately most dealers stock cars with automatic transmission, making it hard to find a stick in a good color. Like you, I do love driving the new NSX but it is nothing like the experience of the old car. For what it’s worth, my friend just sold his 95 NSX for a Lotus 400.
Glenns Car Collection I thought Lotus was somewhat reliable? Interesting take
Blake Swan Lotus is reliable drivetrain wise (since it's all from Toyota) but general build quality is lackluster. I heart they improved a lot lately, though.
I’d think the Lotus is like a revived MR2, which as much as I love and appreciate it, it won’t be as pure and authentic as an NSX (that is from ‘91 to ‘05.)
NACHOS RULE yep, thats why i still own the NSX
Agreed, UK build quality has really come on in last few years. These new 400s are very reliable.
Gen 1 NSX in the title = like before Matt can even tell us about his leather promo.
Heh!
I read the end of your post as "leather porno" & did a double take!
Zack, you've bulked up a bit! Great to see the ultimate in Honda engineering still on the road and in use, albeit in a modified form.
Yes, yes, yes. Thank you for mentioning the 40 - 120mph range for performance. IMO, that's a much more interesting speed range for a long drive and understanding how a vehicle will bring enjoyment over time verses the ~4 seconds of glory at the stop light.
Did the highway patrol have the road closed off for this shoot?
I've never really minded the small promotions, they don't bother me. Though I must say I think this is the first time I've been intrigued to check out the company. Ty for the message :D
Come on you telling me you haven't tried the Chassis ball powder yet ;-)
He had some quilted floor mats that people said were awesome too. Good promotions lately
No bullshit i don’t fuck around with leather. It needs to be thick soft and durable with tough stitching and metal YKK’s. This ticks the boxes
Curious if channels get more revenue from CZcams Premium / Google versus those who watch adds.
Jon Doe Who hurt you m8? 😂
Two Takes. I'll take two more please!
rstyrone right
19:40 I agree wholeheartedly - nothing wrong with off the rack switches & radios IMAO. Just makes maintenance cheaper & makes it easier to install a bangin' system when better tech comes along.
That NSX exhaust sound is excellent
SQUAZZ yeah.. sounds like an italian V6
@@koenigsegg1237456789 it really does.
The 400 to me sounds like half an Italian V12 with that exhaust. Great wail to it.
It's my birthday and Matt does a two take with two of my favorite cars. This is a treat
Matt, I would not consider myself a mass consumer of any sorts. I don't buy what isn't necessary "except car stuff lol" but I appreciate your ads. Guys stuff. Keep it up!
That NSX is such a beautiful car.
Awesome video as always man! I am surprised it doesn't get as much views as before
“Two takes” !! Damn Matt this is brilliant.. it’s crazy how you keep coming up with these simple but super effective and enjoyable concepts for videos. So many other people over do it or don’t do enough.
YES!! Please do more two takes comparing old and new cars back to back!
Thanks Matt for doing this One Take/Two Take video, and the 4 track day video and Drive article on the Evora 400. As a newer Evora 400 owner, I am really glad to see the 400 get some love. Such a fun car. I agree with many in the comments below, please mix in a few One Takes/Two Takes easter eggs with the new projects.
Really enjoyed that episode. Great concept. These are two cars on my wish list so it's interesting to consider the Evora as the modern day NSX (new NSX makes me want to cry). Cheers!
We miss you dude. Good to see you back
Lol, wave to the police
nightmanFPV LmAo thats what I was saying. WTH were they doing there. I think Matt called them to keep him safe
It's not a bad spot to chill and eat donuts...@@alphawav3
I have to say Evora seems like a great sports car.
So when are we gonna have a police cruiser One Take? Lol
Great video, Matt 👍
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Both cars would be in my garage. Love love
A two take?! More of these please!
The NSX was the spiritual successor to the Esprit and the 400 is the next generation. I have had an S1 Elise for 18 years and my 400 for 3 weeks. The build quality gap is bigger than the performance gap. As a head turner - it got more attention than the 458 on one side and the DB11 on the other in the parking lot.
I’ve heard from multiple reviewers that the Evora is similar to the driving experience to the NSX! Great Video👍
"aaaaand now the camry motor sounds good" xD
That Evora is so perfect..I wish they'd make a drop-top already.
Liking this new format
Who's this....Where's Zack....WE NEED THE KLAP.....man. :) Thanks Matt. Love the content from both of you cats.
1991! That car is eligible for California historic vehicle plates. 🤣
1st gen NSX is probably the greatest sports car of all time and lotus are one of the few manufacturers keeping that balanced, driver focused, pure recipe going in these days of luxury and tech.
Iceman7 you can say the same for Lotus, as with Lexus.
They're a Lotus first, then a sports car. They're their own thing before they compete with the market. That's what makes Lotus's so great!
The Evora seems like such a great car to own. Completely capable of being a daily, yet can be taken to the canyons/back roads/track with ease. And it's basically just a Toyota engine. So cheap to service.
Iceman7 best of all time nothing is the best of all time tastes vary in all things
Iceman7 1st gen NSX is DEF NOT the greatest sports car of all time .....and this is coming from the previous owner of a 1991 and a 1995. Gearbox, seating position, engine, overall reliability and design are terrific but when driven extremely aggressively (in stock form) it is actually a very soft car that doesn’t have the best steering, and it can def be somewhat twitchy while also suffering from pretty substantial understeer.....basically what I’m saying is that I don’t disagree that it was the greatest sports car of its day but to say it’s the greatest sports car of all time is very far fetched
I own (15 years) another 91 and you are a little confused about understeer, 91 NSX have a clear oversteer, thats why all the next NSX years changed the spring rate, softening rear respect the front. You can check here: www.nsxprime.com/wiki/Suspension#Spring_rates
The steering not assisted is very good, but dont have a faster ratio, it is variable between 18:1 and 20:1. People like faster ratios but they dont understand how slower ratio give you a ultra precise control in corners, without unnecesary load transfers of a nervous faster ratio.
But yes, stock 91 has very soft suspensión, but is very easy change stiffer springs.
You need to send Gordon Murray and Jeremy Clarkson to sleep too:
"The moment I drove the 'little' NSX, all the benchmark cars-Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini-I had been using as references in the development of my car vanished from my mind," said Murray. "Of course the car we would create, the McLaren F1, needed to be faster than the NSX, but the NSX's ride quality and handling would become our new design target." Gordon Murray.
Gordon Murray F1 Story reveal that the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach, BMW M1, Porsche 959, and the Bugatti EB110 among others were benchmarked for the F1. That the NSX stood head and shoulders above the others is high praise for the Honda.
You can check a lot more things about the influence of the NSX in the Mclaren F1 from Murray on the long version of the interview.
"If you want to argue that The Best Car in the World is a supercar, go ahead. But there is only one that makes the grade. Only one that's built properly. Gordon Murray knows. Rowan Atkinson knows. It's the Honda NSX." Jeremy Clarkson.
And let me comment something else that few people know (i have all the proof numbers if you are interested):
-Top 5 car with lower center of gravity of last 50 years.
-Top 1 car visibility 318º of 360º
-Top 1 car at unsprung/sprung mass ratio.
-Top 2 better manual gearbox with the Carrera GT
-Perfect convergence between hip point (CoG driver) and CoG car.
-Top aero ratio: the drag of a prius with close to 0 lift (NSX-R even better)
-Fastest Nurburgring lap below 300hp (NSX-R), same time of a Modenna CS (with same weight +150hp and more downnforce).
-Very low polar moment inertia (midle transverse engine).
-High torsional rigidity (Thank to you Ayrton Senna), 50% higher than 911 of his time.
If we want found another more purist/refined i think its impossible.
Well, F1 was 100% analogic too, but front unsprung mass make steering heavier, the big engine cant be transverse placed, the high torque made a very hard clutch, the lighter sprung mass and heavier unsprung mass make the car with worse sprung/unsprung ratio.
If we add reavility and cheap maintenance its game over.
Im not a fan of the NSX because i own one, i am because i cant find nothing better.
So yes, i too think is the best sport car ever if we talk about enjoyable purist driving.
A week before I saw this video, I decided I wanted a Lotus Evora 400. I already have a 1996 Supercharged NSX-T in the garage. The Evora arrives later this week for all the reasons you mentioned. 🙂
Was lucky enough to very briefly drive the Ever 400 ( a Euro car on tour of Lotus dealers, I happen to be checking out a used car at that dealer who was kind enough to offer me a ride in that demo car). It was by far the most expensive car I've ever driven, and so above the capability of any road you'd ever drive it was hard to recognize it's full potential. But even knowing that, it was a wonderful car. I remember thinking at the time that I could never let go of 90 to 100k for one, but I'm unlikely to ever have that money to spend on a car anyway (like most of us I believe). However I would have to echo Matt's views on it being a wonderful car to drive. It was comfortable, easy clutch, great brakes, just no real downside for what it is. It was hard to get into, but once in you were completely comfortable. Maybe some day one will depreciate to my budget (it has a Camry motor after all). But if not at least I know my taste in cars matches up with Matt's, which means its close to someone who seems to be thought of as having good taste in the community. If nothing else that brings me some satisfaction.
I’ve really liked Zach’s One Takes so far but I forgot just how good Matt is at this
God DAMN THAT NSEX BEAUTIFUL.
Damn those shoes and bag look 🔥🔥🔥👌🏽
Ap1 S2k 🤔 there was something leather inside the evora trunk but he didn’t say what it was..... 🤫
Lotus Evora has been one of my favorite sports cars I want to get but I'll choose the Acura NSX anyday. To each other's own taste.
“An NSX of 14-15 years ago” I think you mean 27 years ago.
love the two tks
I love the Cali hwy patrol sitting there!
i love this bag so cool
Visited LA the past winter/spring. Drove Angeles forest highway. On my way back down from Wilson Observatory saw this NSX with a bag stuck to the front heading up with a modded S2000. I may be wrong, but sure looked like it.
matt is back
im always curious why people say it's a Camry engine. it was never in a Camry. It's a Toyota engine that shares the design of the old Camry engine that's built and tuned for Lotus. small side note it is also fitted in several other cars. the Avalon, Aurion, some old Lexus models, Sienna, Rav4 for a few. not even important to mention now imo
sadubone I LOVE telling people that my Sienna has the engine from the Evora!
sadubone really.... who cares if it is? If it makes the number, then great. If it is efficient and reliable then EXCELLENT. Why caught up in high strung bespoke engines that are inefficient and expensive?
It's probably the same architecture, though, isn't it?
lol Iluv i don't care that it's a Toyota engine. missed the point entirely. Toyota makes reliable amazing engines. the LFA V10 is a great example. has nothing to do with where it's from. same bloody engine. my meaningless pet peeve is that people call it a Camry specific engine. it was never in a Camry. It's a Toyota engine that is used in Camry's etc etc. just call it a Toyota engine. i could give a shit what engine they use, the Evora is about the drive
sadubone gotcha. I was throwing in my two cents as an apology to all the naysayers and haters who would use the engine to ding the car. My comment wasn't necessarily directed at you, as I didn't think you were one of those people.
I have the exact same boots, will say they make a quality boot
I drove a 91 N/a nsx it was fast! Could imagine how that supercharger is.
taking out the analogy instrument panel and putting an eletric S2000 instrument panel.....talking about Chester the Molester on such a beautiful NSX. to each it's own.
Definitely would of bought a pair, those boots look dope, to bad they don't ship to Canada :'(
Great comparison. The supercharger really gives the Nsx the power it needs to compete with modern sports cars
Comparing a 1991 car to a 2018 car just shows how great the old NSX was
I really, really like the Evora. Seems like a super fun/capable car.
Does my F-150 count as an NSX? It's RWD, aluminum, and has a +7K redline DOHC V6.
Mel Laknanurak Yeah pretty sure that’ll pass
Mid mount it and we'll talk.
Bad DFW Drivers Technically, its front mid-engine, in the sense of the Miata, where the entire engine is behind the front axle.
Rev it past 8k, see what happens.
Mel Laknanurak or you could just put a junkyard engine in your truck bed. Boom mid engined, instant supercar
Gotta love the Evora
On the highway either of these cars is more than enough performance. It boils down to comfort and aesthetics. I'd prefer the NSX as I'm an old guy that remembers the NSX when it first came out and it has aged wonderfully. Nice review, Matt.
Love the old gen nsx! NSEX
I am seriously thinking about getting one of these cars.
11:37 Evora clip starts
More 'Two Takes' please
Two Take Idea: Mustang GT vs Lexus LC500
Love the Evora. My goodness
As each year passes the NSX gets more and more respect! Wish id bought a 3.2 gen1 when i had the chance :( Will have to be in another life now lol
How did I miss this episode??
Gen 1 NSXs all sound so damn good.
With all the love this has been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned into another passion buy for matt, like the DeLorean was ( but more usable :P )
WE NEED FOUR TAKES!!
So, I heard the dreaded words " It eliminates the need for a project car." Honestly, the Evora 400 (any Evora?) hits all the highs, and, has almost none of the lows. It's rare, it's exotic, it's quick (dare I say fast?), it makes the right noises in Track mode, it handles like a Lotus and- it's well built (mostly). A little small inside, it looks great at any angle, and- it handles like a Lotus. Now, I just need @ $65k to get one.... Hmmm. Cayman is close, but- it brings a unique sense of occasion that the lil 911 lacks.
Those boots look legit lol.... and I"ve never been in the market for nice boots
I haven't seen your vids in my inbox in weeks. Nice, CZcams.
Matt, how would you compare a Porsche GT3 Touring to Evora 400? Driving experience and comfort?
how did u get away with those ticket masters @ 3:18 is amazing.
How does Cayman stuck up to those two cars though? Another good alternative to the NSX isn't it?
Meatball number is a nice callback!
Spectacular
Great comparison, thanks for making this video! I would love to drive an Evora myself one day. But the NSX does have that "x-factor" the Lotus is missing. Interested to know if the NSX has the stock 5 speed or short gears. The JDM short gears are a nice upgrade.
Alexander Seto short gears on this one. Aka JDM 5spd
I’m actually if the opposite opinion. The NSX is sort of bland to me while the Evora has something intangible that I really love.
Probably the best way to tell the Evora story by comparing it to its ancestors. Really good vid big man
"When you touch them, you feel them."
-Matt Farah, 2018
Want to label your video segments? Thought he was talking evora 400, but wait a second, he's in a 15 year old Honda
It's a testament that a 20 year old car is being compared to a new car. I realize the NSX is modded, but god damn was that an engineering masterpiece. Considering pulling money out of the retirement account to purchase one as an investment.
The question is: how does the Evora fair against the Cayman? What makes it a better option, besides the price (and the sound)?
Matt, what watch are you wearing, it's beautiful
What about doing an Evora 410 vs 911 GT3? Which drives better?
Seeing how both Honda and Lotus have deep roots with Senna....Not surprising his Ethos shines through in this latest masterpiece from Lotus. I plan on picking one up myself!
I
Zygrene I briefly thought this was your video when I saw the title. Seems like a comparison you would make
Haha it totally would be. In fact, I have a similar video planned with some NorCal owners.
Hey Zygrene in the house! Greetings and respect to a great NSX CZcamsr.
I'd take the NSX home. 27 years old and the NSX is still on point. Could you say the same about the Lotus? ( Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious ).
Did any RUSH fans hear the amount of miles he put on the Evora? 2112 miles. Cool cd. But i'm old school, i'd go for the NSX. I never got into the styling of the Lotus.
LOL nice number plate on the Lotus (Garage 419 days?)
What kind of monster replaces the popup headlights on a 90s NSX
Just got home from work. Got my 2 for $4 Sausage McMuffins. And this popped up. 😁
Fidel Mendoza DJ Khaled's spirit is with you. if you seen H3H3 Khaled Documentary, thats his source of power haha XD

Man, I want some crispy, greasy, cheesy, salty Sausage McMuffins now
I love leather s&m gear
is matt back doing one takes again?
Matty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why were there two cops just chillin by your filming site? Lol
The hood seems to flex quite a bit on the evora.
TheSmokingTire, if money was the same, would you rather that S/C NSX or your old R32 + mods
So when are you ordering an Evora 400?
I like your gold G-SHOCK :-)
MAtt, been a huge fan of yours for years. But honestly, One Takes aren't the same without you and I have stopped watching them as regularly as I used to. I mean I'm watching more Dough DeMuro now :/
