- Phantom Canyon Road is located southeast of Cripple Creek and Northeast of Cañon City and considered an easy trail. An easy trail means you should be able to complete the trail in a stock vehicle depending on driver capabilities and good weather conditions. Keep in mind that trail ratings are approximate, an easy trail can be difficult or even impassible if the weather conditions are not favorable. This trial is usually busy in the summer since there are several historical attractions in the area and is part of the BLM Gold Belt tour.

I want to do this road more than any other in Colorado. I was in a sedan last time I was there, and I was told I needed a 4x4. Now that I see this though, I absolutely could and should have done it

Last time I was there, there were so many people camped at the very south side near the river. I would almost say they weren't even camped but living there. They had tarps up, garbage everywhere and looked like encampments instead of couple days of camping. As you go further north into the winding mountains it was a lot nicer.

@@pamala305 That's sad and pathetic they allow this. Even in some of these cities, it's full of tent encampments, garbage, disease, drugs and crime. Why they allow it I will never know.
