I've been playing with the RP3+ for about 3 months now and I've been having a blast with it. I play android games, PSP, GBA, and PS1. I've even been playing a modded version of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas with it. Best 150 bucks I've spent in a while. I bought the grip for it and it makes for more comfortable game play.
PlayStation remote play also works well. 👍🏾
PSP is an absolute blast on the RP3.
Does this come pre loaded with a good amount of ps1 games? Also. Does this have an option to select cheats for games?
@@lain4231 no games at all. Retroarch can do cheats, but you must know how to place it in the right folder. Get a miyoo mini plus if you want to play ps1 games.
Doesn’t have rooms that’s illegal to preload you have to do it yourself
Great vid! Love my RP3+ take it everywhere. I've got a Steam Deck for the more demanding emulation but find myself picking up the RP3+ more often. Hoping for analogue triggers on the next iteration. Maybe slightly larger display.
Great review, been looking around for my first retro handheld device and this covers everything!
Glad you liked it!
Waiting on mine to come in! I love how this is strong enough to actually upscale older games to 720p
It's amazing!!! Play it more than my deck
Great video. Very informative and well made.
This was a very well done video for such a small channel, good job bud.
Thanks!
You're the only one I've seen that compared RP3+ with a RG351P.-
I really appreciate it because the last handheld I bought was an RG351P and I plan to upgrade. It's a shame that the D-Pad is a step down and the wider screen makes it a bit bigger, but everything else looks amazing!
Great video man! Ive had mine little over a month now, and absolutely love it. Go great with all my Miyoos lol
5:37 if you buy retroid's rubber ergonomic grip, it's basically impossible to press the home button on accident. It also makes holding the thing actually comfortable if you need to use the joysticks
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your efforts to put out the review
My pleasure!
Thank you for detailed video
Well done, man. Keep going! Would love more reviews by you of these handhelds. PS Can tell RGC has been a big influence. And why not? He's great, and popular. And you will be too, if you keep going like this.
Thanks!
Awesome video! Love the content
Good video! I think it’s be great if you did a quick setup guide! :)
This is one of the best handheld ever. I finally got the Mame and neo geo games to run. I've been having a blast playing all my favorite games and some
Have you seen retro game corp?
@PSUNATION yes I've watched alot of his videos. His videos helped me make the decision to get the retroid pocket 3+
How long did it take for you to get it, from the time you ordered it ?
@davebloomfield8468 1 week I believe with the express shipping
Glad to hear you’re Enjoying the Retroid Pocket 3+ so far!
I’ve already have the Pocket Flip & 2S which both are really good so Far. I’ve made both Videos Showcasing them and their Accessories.
I’ll soon do a Pocket 3+ Video soon and Showcase the Accessories I use such as Custom Grips and Screen Protectors.
I really want the 2S, love the look of it.
@@8bitbongo yeah the Retroid 2S is a Major Improvement from the 2+. Both the START & SELECT Buttons are at the Front and you get 1 Mappable Button.
It also has Analogue Triggers and Hall-Effect Joysticks. Although it still has a 4:3 Display but the Hardware is slightly improved. PS2 Games kinda works if you mess with the Settings.
Thanks you a lot, i just bought the metal version yesterday. :3
Happy gaming!
11:35 If you want the touchscreen to work you simply need to set it to "Bottom Only". Never use "Top Only" it's kinda bugged.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video!!! I was wondering though which DS emulator you were using through retroarch melonDS or DeSmuME?
Great video thanks
I went though so many handhelds like I've had hot dinners and this was by far the most comfortable one I've ever used and feels great in the hands. I generally buy and sell but have just got another one of these for a great price of £100. Only downside is a few PS2 games i play wouldn't work on it .
Gba emulation also feels so good this the d pad is top notch.
I want the rp4 pro but it's not quite worth the current price I'd say.
Great video
I've been using this to play mainly Saturn and PSX games and it's great. I've noticed two issues though. I used to get a pink bar at the top of the screen when some white backgrounds were displayed such as the launcher. This seems to have gone away over time. I'm not convinced it was a pixel issue as this didn't happen on all white backgrounds. Maybe it was patched out after the last update I installed.
The last issue is that when you close a game and return to the loader it still leaves it running in the background so you have to exit the launcher and then close the emulator. Not sure if this is a setting I might have missed or a bug.
Thanks for the vid. Please take a look at your volume levels (music, voice, etc) Thanks!
Noted!
Awesome video, nice to see a full review. I held off on the RP3 and 3+ since I figured they would release a RP4 - which I just pre ordered. I plan to play a lot of PS2, would love to hear your thoughts on the 4.
Thanks! I ordered the 4 as well, Watermelon, so I will be releasing a video on that.
@@8bitbongo Sweet! Subbed, I'll look forward to your RP4 vid.
Very nice video! Something I've been looking for. How has been the general comfort when playing for a longer while without any grips? I assume you've played without them.
Very comfortable!
@@8bitbongo That's great to hear! Thanks.
Its on sale for $130 right now. Ordered one for DC games. I'm sure I'll use it for other things but access to the DC library was the main motivation.
I finished dragon quest 8 on citra using this device!
I love my rp3 plus. It removed a huge load on my gaming phones.
I have this one and it hasn't been powered on in months. I over estimated its ability to play PS2 games. I am thinking of getting a Odin 2 Pro or Max. The 12g of ram and Snapdragon 8 gen 2 is so powerful and yes I fully realize the difference in price.
Just get the regular odin 2 it's the same chip with 8 gigs of RAM which is plenty for all emulation currently available including switch the extra RAM doesn't do anything it's just a waste of money
Were you able to save in game for Pokémon ? Or did you have to use save states?
RP3+ and even the RP3 with 3 gb ram might be able to handle most gamecube, wii, and PS2 tittles, (the hardware) is capable to do it, the problem here are the emulators that are not fully optimized yet and do not perform well on demanding games yet, and the PS2 emulators for android are developing at a very slow pace.
Question: for retroid pocket 2s, multiple Bluetooth controllers connection is also good, right?
Hii I was wondering if you're going to have plans to make a review for the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and /or RG35XX Plus, I'm considering to get one of the two but idk which one is the best
My retroid pocket 4 plus just arrived a few days ago actually, I also plan on purchasing the rg35xx plus to review and compare with the Miyoo mini plus. Keep any eye out for those reviews!
@@8bitbongo that's amazing news, I'll stay tuned!!!!! Can't wait!!
Got this device yesterday bro
First i didnt like bcz of long setup
But now i m liking it 😂
It's a really great device, harder to set up but it's worth it.
I’ve got a steam deck which can play just about anything, only thing is kind of heavy to play dream cast or some small emulation games. I want something with a big screen and light weight device to play. It’s between this or the powkitty.
The retroit pocket 3 plus is good, the only problem is that screen could be bigger, 6 or 7 inches, that would be perfect, as i like this portables to streaming with moonlight and sunshine
The screen is perfect. Unless you just need that bigger screen for whatever reason
Managed to get a G Cloud for $200 and it is night and day compared to my RP3, especially for PC streaming.
@@itsmaistrohe just said it. For moonlight streaming. Playing monster hunter rise and dead Rising on it, reading text is pretty hard
I want a 4 inch screen and start/select in a place that isn't weird.
@@cyn1stre exactly
Maaaan I got so excited when I first saw the 3DS Pokémon running relatively well and then the sound started cracking and the framerate dropping. One day we’ll have 3DS emulated flawlessly!
Yea I wish it was perfect too. But in my opinion, its not that bad of an experience even with the sound cracking and I'm a stickler for that kind of stuff.
I played Pokemon y, Omega Ruby, and sun and moon with no major issues. Some frame drops here and there. Mainly with ultra sun
Pocket 4 pro enters the stage!
Great video. Any chance of a Vita 3K Retroid Pocket 3 Plus compatibility video?
Thanks! Hmm, I haven't thought about that. If enough people want it, then possibly.
This is not the system for Vita 3K. That emulator on any Android is still too new, and the 3+ isn't designed to handle it.
@@BurnLikeAFlame There are games that work on it. It is a case of settings that enable a game to work. The fact that an emulator is getting better with every version provides hope for more games to be compatible on any hardware. Even if it was a few indie games rather than AAA retail games.
Awesome video. I have some questions about the 3ds citra. Is there anyway i can send you a message? Im lost woth that damn emulator..
Is there any sort of video playback? can you get youtube on there?
So can I transfer Pokémon to another device so I can evolve the Pokémon that only evolve through trading?
TBH I'm not sure if you can do this on an emulation device since back in the day you would need a link cable. But I've seen people do some crazy stuff so it's possible there is a way, just not sure how.
I have the regular 3, the plus is better but I have a billion games on it that play great for the most part, but the coolest thing for me is android stuff, playing Asphalt 8 on TV and mapping buttons to touch screen games, I'm terrible at touch screen controls but there's really fun games that don't support controllers Great video and I say yes it's pocketable
Another RP3 base owner, it definitely fits my needs. And for the more demanding stuff, I would probably want to play on a home console/PC for those anyway.
I have a PS4 I never turn on
If you want anything stronger than dreamcast, it's well worth the upgrade to rp3+! I have both and rp3 is a drag compared to rp3+!
How does this thing handle PS2, and Sega Saturn? Would it be out of the question to get 3DO running smoothly?
PS2 plays great depending on the game, some games not so great. There's a compatibility list for RP3+ on Reddit that tells you which games are playable on the system. As for Sega Saturn and 3DO, I haven't tested those but I bet they'll play fine!
3DO works perfectly, no noticeable fps drops in the games I tested, can get 90fps in fast forward mode (normally 60fps) so in normal speed it's playing below what the system is capable of.
Waiting for 100% gamecube and ps2 - hopefully the retroid 4 is it!
You'll get a fairly large number of PS2 games functioning, but never 100%. Aethersx2 is the only reliable Android PS2 emulator, and it doesn't have 100% compatibility... and it's no longer being maintained.
How do you trade/complete Pokédex in games with only one device?
Does it have the GBA, NDS and 3ds pokemon games preinstalled
Ordered mine today coming tomorrow, are the retro games easy to put on SD card?
A little more complicated than other handhelds but not too bad. When it arrives, I recommend checking out Retro Game Corps RP3 set up video, walked me through the process and it was easy. Happy gaming!
i got the same sd card issue as well, thought i was gonna have to break smth to get it out
Good review kid. I agree, I love my RP3+ metal iteration. Bloody brilliant. In future, might I suggest that you simply go with a simple "USB C Charging" rather than your interesting interpretation of a USB interface. 😉👍.
Great presentation young lad. As far as a suggestion, often, first time users simply want a 5 minute setup guide for platform specific optimal gameplay rather than the 45 minute in-depth setup guides that Russ does to perfection but take time to consume.
Great suggestion!
Do you have video to set up?
Hello. I like your videos on retro gaming and the handheld reviews. I don't know what to buy, the retroid pocket 3 plus, or with the same specs 2ghz, 4gb ram, Lenovo tab M8 or M9. As I have a small 8bitdo Lite2. It just because a tablet will enlarge the screen without the black side lines. Thanks in advance 👍🏻
I think it's hard to compare because the Lenovo tablet would almost be like playing on a monitor with a controller making it less portable. It depends on how you game. If you want to pick something up and chill in bed or on the couch without having to place the tablet somewhere and connect a controller, then the RP3+ is the way to go. But if it's about the better screen and the handheld part doesn't matter to you, then you probably want to go with the tablet. Also I know nothing about emulating on a lenovo tablet, at the moment, so I might not be the best person to ask about this!
@@8bitbongo Okay, thanks for your info
They do a lot of updates 👍🏼
Best handheld right now (imo) that is around $200 is the Odin Lite hands down.
Came to say this, the RP3+ is incredibly cool, but once you use the Odin there just isn't anything in the same league currently, even after it is over a year old.
@@JustinShapley Yep. At one point I was deciding between the Odin Lite and the RP3+ and I'm sooo glad I went with the Odin.
Absolutely. 50 bucks more for three times the power, bigger screen and far better ergonomics.
@clausjahnel5379 3x stronger really? How is it stronger? Jw
And for another $99 you can get the Odin 2 which blows the lite out of the water. Problem is the Odin is nowhere near as pocketable. For under $150 RP3 + is boss
Great review! I've got some comment on reddit about this device regarding bluetooth controllers.
I've been told you would have to remap each controller's buttons once you pair them. This for each emulator...
Is this true?
You have dust on right hand side of screen that appears throughout this video. Also, nice chest!
Can Pocket 3 do all of this too?
I wanted to say what i didnt like about the video, but instead ill say good video and keep it up
This comment is pointless
I hated that there’s often music while he’s talking. That’s never a good idea.
@@Coryw133Lol 😂 exactly
I wish RP3+ had the size of Powkiddy X28 5.5inch is pocketable and same size as Switch lite.
And i also wish it had hall magnetic sensor thumbstick oh well maybe Retroid Pocket will add them in RP4/4+ bit more powerful processor and "Gamma OS" improves battery life when gaming and my launcher and everything looks better.
RP3+ isnt perfect but it's close enough since my dream of playing PS2, GameCube games on handheld is complete.
But inconsistent frame rate in most games while other games have muxh better fps is annoying. Atleast Wii is playable but i wish they could give us 1 more update patch and give us further performance improvements!
maybe they improved this with the retroid pocket 4 or 4+, I really want this device cause of the ps2 ports but I'm holding on waiting if the next retroid is better
@@Carcosahead RP4 isn't out yet but they have plans to release in late 2024.
So by then I'm already gonna buy Switch 2 and I'll be on the look out if Anbernic 405m and 505 gets newer better successors. And Powkiddy X28 which uses same chip and specs as Rp3+ ill be look out for these 3 consoles and their successors.
Whichever one gets more bang and better specs for low price is the one I'm gonna go with I have plans to play PS2 and GameCube and even Wii games on full speed on their next consoles. And hopefully they are powerful enough to run PS3 at 30fps!
@@nepaliprayasgurung2594 I also planning on buying the next switch, I hope there's the persona 3 remake
@@Carcosahead Damn that's nice I'll stick with RP4+ because their console has better design than Anbernic and Powkiddy the worst. And better d-pad and pricing is fair and they support software updates and their console is straight forward emulators come with console ready to play.
But if we get 5.5inch console that from Powkiddy their next console is powerful and uses hall sensors and better d-pad than I'll buy that over RP4/4+!
@Carcosahead I'm getting this or the flip for the back Friday sale. Figure if I get the switch next year then by the time I get tired of that, a much more decent for PS2 iteration should come out.
Does this come pre loaded with a good amount of ps1 games? Also. Does this have an option to select cheats for games?
It does not come preloaded with any games. As for cheats, yes you can use cheats through the emulator.
@@8bitbongo dang. A y services rate would load these up for someone?
I bought a RG351P about a month ago for my first handheld and honestly its been a massive disappointment. My save files have been deleted like 4 times now and yesterday when I woke it from sleep the controller wouldn't connect for about an hour. I turned it off fully yesterday instead of putting it to sleep and when I booted it up today same issue. I'm going to try and return it and pick up a Retroid Pocket 2S or a 3+. Really disappointing as I bought it specifically for the screen as I mainly wanted to play GBA games. The 2S/3+ is a bit more appealing at this point as the fact that it runs on android makes it seem more reliable.
Hi , how to download games to this console and is it legal?
3:38 ah yes. Blue thooth
HOLY INTRO AUDIO IMBALANCE BATMAN! lol
Can it play Pokémon black and white or 3ds game like Luigis mansion
It can play black and white. Most 3ds games work fine, I haven't tested luigis mansion in particular.
Super Mario RPG is notorious for not running well on emulation....How is it on this system?
Haven't tested this one out yet but I'll make sure to soon
Really? Assuming you mean the original on SNES, I don't remember which emulator core I used but I finished that game on my RG351P with no issue, it should work even better on this system.
Can you check the ps2 emulator capabilities on that?
With minimal tinkering, I get great results playing Resident evil 4, Metal gear solid 2, King of Fighters 11, Persona 4, Final Fantasy X and XII. Tekken tag tournament is laggy, but I am not an expert on working the settings, so maybe someone can get it to run better
Personally I don't like the idea of these bigger handhelds, great video though.
Thanks! To each their own, no handheld is for everyone.
Does it come with preloaded games
No, it doesn't. You'll need to purchase a microSD and load your own games.
@@8bitbongo No microSD card required.
If the odin didn't exist, this is what id buy.
You have had the handheld for 120 hours and haven't tried the battery life for mower powerful emulated consoles? More powerful consoles is where the RP3+ shines. Just use an RG35XX or something comparable at that point if you're not going to let it stretch its legs.
Living in my shitty country, even when I do have the money to buy a console like this one, the price would be almost double with all of the Import and Customs fees. And that's the good scenario in which those Customs bastards don't steal my package (So far they stole the C64 mini, a couple of Vinyl Records and some CDs). 😁
Que pais eres?
Some PS2 emulation is great too.
I dont like the dome switch dpad and the long travel tiny buttons. Dpad feels like my xbox controller which i also dont like. I'm not a big phone person, in fact i use an old phone with prepaid cards. So android setup is making things difficult for me. I own a Miyoo mini plus and upgraded to onion os, built my own rom collection, so i have some technical knowledge, but just not android. I did watch a youtube video about changing the dpad to membrane but i dont think its available to order anymore. I might just sell this device and keep my miyoo.
Best budget handheld in 2022 and 2023 🏆
This or the Retroid Flip?
Tough to say since I haven’t tested the flip, but my gut tells me the RP3+ because I heard the hinge on the flip is not the best quality.
Cool video but you don't need the music. It's kinda annoying. Good luck with your channel.
Thanks, I'm torn on the music. Part of me doesn't want to put it in but then it feels incomplete to me. Good to hear feedback though
"It can play up to Gamecube and Wii almost completely fine" Yes with 75% resolution, 3-5 frameskip, 80% FPS :"D No, it can not.
dolphin doesn't even have frame skipping
I should make a video named 120 hours of make it run proper. But maybe it will need 1200 hours.
Anyone knows if i can play winning eleven in it??
Dude why didn't you even try ps2 games? Alot run great like final fantasy x is damn near perfect Did u just not think it could run that system or did I miss it?
Plus he ONLY played pokemon which doesn't show me any confidence in it handling more demanding games.
@@chriscolbert2188 yea not really an in depth review
Waiting on the retroid pocket 4 since this model is about to be replaced sooner than later.
Yea it's nuts how often they are releasing these devices.
I dont accept that releasing one product and then releasing another product is shady marketing. If RP3 was enough for you why care. If it wasn't why'd you buy it. Buyers' remorse isnt the seller's problem
When your saying WiFi do you mean mobile internet because like it links up to WiFi just fine at my house and work etc
No I mean like your home Wifi and yes it connects great!
Devices like these should not have buttons on the side it's so stupid. Don't know why they do that.
Agreed haha
Sonic heroes?
steamdeck still best
Anyone got TMNT working with this
Yes
Nah RG405m is better
I need to buy and test it out.
The colors look poor, another "washed out" IPS screen from these consoles. Looks like they put inferior IPS screens in their consoles after a while to save money. The RP3+ screen looks better on older videos, so it's random to get an inferior screen.... who knows. I have an Anbernic console and the colors are bad compared to my friend's same console. So it is disturbing to buy those now for me.
Rp2s is better. More compact, analog triggers , hall effect joysticks, better face buttons and the most important part, an aspect ratio that is much better for 98% of the systems that you would be playing on this thing
My RP3 is completely destroyed with screen burn in. Absurd.
Will never buy anything from retro if again. Terrible
Every reviewer reads the same script about release dates. You are not entitled to a business releasing on your schedule. The end. And since they are still in business its further proof nobody cares except a few loud liars.
Retroid pulled that shady douche move on purpose. It's like dishing out the switch Gen 1 and everybody spending hundreds of $ for it, then only few weeks later they secretly drop the switch oled for only $20 more 🤦🏿♂️ so now you tell us how perfect it makes everyone feel. Just because you didn't pay for both, and others such as myself did because I trusted them. But it's all good, I sold my rp3 for 2x the price to cover up the rp3+ sale fail.
@@suhtangwong so retroid is responsible for c19?!?! Does Joe Biden know about this?!?!?!
stop with this grab a cupa coffee bs
adults regularly playing games is pathetic
Ok boomer
I lost my dog two days ago and the company I work for is going through a bankruptcy. I'll play games if I want.
Boo
Daddy wasnt around that much huh
I bet your fun at parties 😂
I sold mine. The charm wore off fast. The buttons are too small and the triggers are a no go. It honestly feels like nothing more than an eight year old overpriced android phone with a controller attachment.
