I really dig this channel. It's cool to have someone chill just explain the pros and cons of these devices. You helped me a lot when I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed with all these different choices.
I love what Anbernic is doing. But I really wanted HDMI; something they seemed to be drifting away from with their horizontal devices, unfortunately. So I ended up ordering the Retroid Pocket 3+. I'm stoked to start playing it. Thank you, man!
I'm glad the channel has been helpful to you! Enjoy gaming with the Retroid Pocket 3+!
@@BoKnowsGaming dude it arrived 4 days ago and it was the funnest thing I’ve ever had. Day 2 it was dead. Won’t charge, won’t boot-up. Disconnected the battery. That did nothing. I wanted to surprise my wife with something similar. Something she could play on her lunch breaks. Ordered her the RG35XX+. It arrived the same day as my Retroid Pocket 3+ and it is DOA. Doesn’t boot-up at all. It’s just insane. 😂 But it was a really cool device.
Really nice review
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching! 🙂
I got this before the steam deck and miyoo mini plus, and this is still my favorite handheld emulator ever! Wish I had the ayn odin 2 but maybe once I have more $...
Very cool. It’s a pretty slick device. I agree it’s better than the Miyoo mini plus. I haven’t played a steam deck, but the RP3+ is DEFINITELY more portable. I’m working on a RG353V review right now, and I’ve ordered a Powkiddy RGB30 to review after that! 😊
I have a ROG ally and I'm torn between this and the ayn Odin 2 for a more portable option for lower end emulaton
RP3+ is pretty unbeatable for lower end emulation (PS1 and below) and portability. I'm also looking at Ayn Odin 2 - its bulkier than the RP3+ and to my view, you should only get that if emulating PS2/Switch titles (pretty much higher end emulation stuff). That or also look at Anbernic RG405m - but my money's pretty much on RP3+
@@chrisz.2362 my only issue is when is the RP4 coming? Loll. My luck, I buy the RP3+ and the 4 gets announced
I can't make the psplay work on my RP3+
When I register my console, it says the connection to the server timed out.
Even registering it manually using the account ID number didn't worked. I was having a blast on it with my 2 gaming phones. But for some reason, I can't make it work on the retroid handheld.
Do you mean PlayStation Remote Play? That’s weird. I didn’t actually test that specifically. I tried Xbox and it worked. I feel like there’s gotta be a fix for that, but I don’t know what it is. Let me know if you get it figured out though. I’d be interested in knowing the solution! ✅
@@BoKnowsGamingI'm using a third party app called PsPlay which is significantly better than Remote play.
I tried remote play but it made the buttons of my rp3 useless. It forces you to use your controller which makes the portability and convenience of the handheld useless.
Ok. I see what you’re saying now. Wish I was more help. Maybe someone else will reply with a fix!
@@BoKnowsGamingWell I actually did fixed it.
I read the console's browser had issues forwarding your psn info to the ps play. I was adviced to use a private window tab using Microsoft edge.
From there, I used alternative log in option on ps play. (Which requires you to log in directly via browser)
I used the private window to log in, copied the link and then paste it to psplay.
It finally worked. The screen color saturation mod made the experience soooooo good. I love streaming on it now.
Awesome! I’m really glad you found a solution. Happy gaming, friend!
I really appreciate the device even more now with the release of ps portal lol
Unlike that useless device, I can natively game on it, stream/play videos, play music, browse the web, play multiple emulators and with the added rubber grips, the streaming experience is so good.
I played dragon quest 11 and witcher 3 here via ps play. My only gripe is I really wished it the form factor is bigger, with bigger battery and speakers.
I don't mind the start and select button. But that can also be fixed.
Oh and my other wish is I hope I can enjoy it longer. Cause retroid been teasing retroid pocket 4.😂😂
Yeah. It looks like they could announce the RP4 any day now! I agree the PS Portal is a little ridiculous. This is great for all the stuff you listed!
im about to buy this beast. but the start and select buttons' placement is a no no. 😭
It got SO MUCH right, but then there are a couple of head scratchers 🤔 like the start/select button placement. But overall it’s a great device.
Feel free to use my affiliate link in the description and help a brother out. 😊 #ShamelessPlug 😂
@@BoKnowsGamingTaki made a video on it. He created the rp3 from scratch and built it from ground up by himself lol
I saw that. That’s crazy. 😂
Rp4+ will have ayn odin 2 processor and can play All ps2 and switch games... But... the dpad will be behind the device and select and start will be implemented into the touch screen 🤦🏿♂️
😂😂 I’m rollin’! Gosh, I hope they fix the button placement.
He doesn’t. It was a joke. 🙂
Does it come with a preloaded SD card full of games?
No, but even if it did, I still wouldn't trust it. Always get a branded SD card so it doesn't get corrupted.
No. It doesn’t come with anything reinstalled except Android. You have to add your own games and if you’ve never done something like that it can be a frustrating at first. But once it’s done it’s a pretty cool handheld.
@@BoKnowsGaming this is probably a silly question but I'm a bit new to the handheld emulator scene.
What do I need to add games to an SD card?
Do the roms/games cost?
Other then trying to turn an old tablet into an emulator many years ago I have no experience in this
There's no shame in asking questions! You can make your own ROMs if you have the original disc/cartridge and the right hardware to rip it to a computer. Or you can use various websites to download ROMs that other people have ripped. They do not cost money. But you will need a computer, internet connection, and an sd card reader.
Retroid is the only company I noticed that does not include games. Which is shows moral ig?
👍

Any word on upgrade? That poor battery life is a strong skip-this-one.
Not that I’ve seen. They just released a budget handheld a couple of months ago, but this one came out almost a year ago. I would expect a new model sometime between fall ‘23 and spring ‘24.
Myself I have the metal version and must admit not experienced any issues with battery life, was surprised to hear this. I've not done any battery testing but know I've left it alone for a couple of days ( Hard to do!) , come back to it, seen no noticeable drop in battery life and played it several hours until I'm exhausted... I've never been limited by battery life, always limited by how much gaming I can do in one session. I do think its an amazing bit of kit, best buy of the year for me.
@@fatherdamo2 Oh wow. I am legitimately happy that your experience is so different from mine! The metal version is newer. I wonder if it has a bigger or higher quality battery? Or maybe I just had a defective one and didn't know it. Glad you're loving yours! I do think it's a sweet device overall!
I have a black RP3+. Never had a battery issue.
@@GuyVLouis That's great! I'm glad others are having a better experience in the battery department than I did. 🙂👍
good review. i dont agree with some of your subjective views on button placement or size but its good infos and another viewpoint to make an informed buying decision.
also hate is a very strong word. i would suggest using like and dislike in the future cause your final verdict is still that this thing is great.
also start with negatives or sprinkle them in the review lightly on a positive review of a product. the last thing you hear stays in the mind the strongest. ending on all the negatives leaves a general more negative Picture of the device
Thanks for the feedback.
I agree with you about not doing all the negatives last. I thought the same thing as I was editing. But I was too far in to start over. I did correct this for my Nacon MG-X review though, and alternated between positive and negative, and ended on some positives.
And I also agree that hate is a strong word. I think I even stated that in this video… 🤔… or maybe it was a different video. Regardless, I agree.
The button placement though… especially Start, Select, and Home… it’s just bad. Haha.
Thanks for watching! Have a great day! 🙂
@@BoKnowsGaming keep making stuff!
I liked what I saw
Thanks! I’m trying. Fitting it in where I can. #Life ☺️
Those Cons are really minor……
The battery life, maybe. But that button placement was a real deal breaker for me. They need to fix that before the RP4.
How is the controls minor that’s the most important thing
