As a pad player that recently went from medium TC to no TC, I instantly gained up to a second on most tracks. I noticed the majority of this time was through high speed corners, where the traction control slows you down more than you need. In chains of these corners such as in Qatar, Austin, Silverstone etc the gained lap time is absolutely massive as medium TC will prevent you from going flat/being on the limit in these corners as it effectively performs a manual lift.

How can you drive on pad without TC? It's extremely hard to get the throttle control right so that the car doesn't oversteer on exit. With wheel and pedals it's easy because you have better control of the car but with pad it doesn't feel accurate enough

Alex, it would be interesting to assess the use of ABS with a change of break bias when compared with running no ABS at the usual 56-57%.

This is the one assist I really wish didn't exist. There are already TWO assists that serve the purpose to help slow down before the pit-limiter line. Removing the entire possibility to receive a penalty compared to other players with it off is just ridiculous. Unlike other assists it removes all aspects of skill from pitting and takes away from the game because of it. I'd rather them force me to have it on honestly because I'm stubborn and a believer that in ranked races it should be forced off. ABS and brake assist are there to help with it already.
Edit: Actually I'll say 3 assists because the racing line also shows you when to start braking. Like.. how much help does one need at that point. At least disable it in ranked.

  • @danmiller8152

Crazy how similar they are. Imo using TC or ABS should be made so that it is considerably slower than using no assists. They requires far less skill and you hardly get punished and a lot of players are even faster with them on. Would ensure more people raced without assists.

@@dhevarshhe problem with this statement is that it infers that simply having pedals means no practice is required. ABS is not the same as steering inputs. If you can't play without ABS on a pad it is most probable you would also need practice to play without it on pedals too. The input method is not the issue, providing you have triggers with analogue inputs and enough throw. E.g xbox pad.

Just bought this game, and was doing pretty well after playing for two hours (or so I thought), then I found this video, checked my settings, and realised I had traction control and ABS set to maximum. I turned them off, and lo and behold, I am spinning out at so many corners in Saudi Arabia in the Red Bull. If I could make a video request as a follow up to this, it would be how to go from driving with assists on to driving with assists off. I suppose it has to do with how I am going on and off the throttle and brake, but some pointers would be really helpful. Great job on these videos by the way! Subscribed.

Hey Alex, hope you see this since the video was posted quite a while ago.
Something to mention when you're doing the cornering test for TC and ABS ( 7:14 - 10:55 ) is that when you were using the assists, your inputs were still those of a player not using assists i.e you were bleeding off the brake and getting on the throttle slowly.
I think a better comparison on whether TC and/or ABS is actually faster or not, would be to drive the assists as most people drive who use them i.e full brake pressure until you hit the apex (no trail braking) and slam the throttle as soon as you start accelerating.
Otherwise, really enjoyed the video and the insights.

They need to nerf ABS assist. I say this because although I understand it is a casual game, when you’re racing wheel to wheel with someone who has ABS ON I find myself getting turned into too often because they’re allowed to brake while turning and they assume I can do the same when in reality my braking path has to be much straighter (this is not the case for every corner of course). I think this is unfair for quicker drivers or even people who are trying to learn without the assist. The only solution I can think for the ABS assist is, firstly increase the braking distance slightly as a first nerf but more importantly make it so that the car will still try to naturally stay straight when braking hard without locking up. I feel like this would actually help people learn trail braking quicker too as they’ll have a better idea of how to avoid having their steering restricted under braking and slowly start to learn correct braking/turning technique.

Edit: yes i’ve also tried changing the brake pressure in the game but it only slightly solves the issue and still locks my brakes.

I'm a pad player, I've been using no TC since f1 2019, only assists I use are ABS and racing line corners only, not for the line itself but for the braking point, I struggle to find my braking points on tracks where the meter boards are on the wall, baku, jeddah, canada in some corners etc, I wonder how people do it, anyway I can beat the AI level 100 on every track

Nah, braking assist on low or medium is the way to go for the majority of drivers. If you think I'm wrong then go back into time trial mode, load up your setup for your current fastest time, turn on brake assist to low and see what time you now set. Faster right? On some tracks medium brake assist is better than low.

I'd say also, try to stop using flashbacks as soon as you start feeling comfortable on everything, car, tracks, etc. It changes your driving mentality when you know you can't just flashback, and if you ever want to race online, or in full sims like iracing, obviously you won't have that option. So start to train your brain now to not use them.

I’m on controller and the only assist I have on is gears, just feels unnatural for my hands to be that busy, just wish I could afford a wheel cause I’m one of those people who thinks with enough practice I’ll be world champion 😂
Saving up for a decent elite controller with the extra triggers and maybe I’ll use those as gears.
