The Lowrance Eagle fish finders were intended to replace the Lowrance Hook Reveal, but is the Eagle worth buying, or should you purchase a different fish finder altogether?
I tested the Lowrance Eagle to find out who it works for and who should avoid it!
Pros
Bright screen, easy to see in the sun or with polarized sunglasses
Reasonably priced
Multiple sonar options
Upgraded sonar from the Hook Reveal
Easy to setup/install
Cons
Not ideal for mounting to the trolling motor
Need to be sure of which transducer you're purchasing
Maps were less detailed than the basic Hook Reveal maps
The 7-inch screen is a bit small for standing and fishing when mounted to the boat deck. (Better for kayaks and Jon boats.
Who's it for?
Beginners, kayak anglers, and jon boat anglers. The larger model would be better to mount on the dash for the average angler, but tournament anglers will need more features out of a fish finder.

I used the Hook TS for 3 yrs which was plagued with problems and was finally replaced with the Eagle and can definitely say that the 2D sonar is heads and tails better on the Eagle over the Hook. Both DI and Side Scan is 10x clearer with much better resolution and this was straight out of the box with no changes to settings.
Please can you do Raymarine Element 7 HV with the Lowrance Engle 7 tripleshot, at some point over the next 9-10 months? I'd really appreciate this as I should be getting a new Stealth kayak & want something to go with it. I note the graphics on a Raymarine Dragonfly (on one of my kayaks) are better than anything else I've tried up to now.
I'll see what I can do! I've never used Raymarine, so that'll be a new experience for me!
Hey buddy, i am interested in your opinion on how much better of a unit the Eagle is vs. the Hook2. You can purchase a Hook2 9" for $499 or the new Eagle 9" for $699. Do you think its worth the extra $200 for the eagle? They both have the down and side scan features.
Hey man! The Eagle will have a clearer screen and better sonar capabilities. I’ve never used the Hook2, only the Hook Reveal, which I really liked.
I would go with the Eagle simply because you’re getting a newer model with slightly advanced features, plus idk how much longer Lowrance will warranty the older units now that the Eagle is out.
Do the C-Maps need to be updated before using them? Some of them you need to select the map area to download onto the card
Maybe 🤔 but since this is a brand new product/ unit I would they they should be up to date…
C-maps Inland vs C-maps Tidal Rivers: My Eagle 9 was preloaded with C-map Inland version which has no information on nearby rivers (ugh). I returned it and purchased locally the upgraded model w/C-maps Rivers (+$50) rather than buying the C-map River chip separately at $150. So, get the upgraded model unless you want inland lakes only. Confusing, vague, unreasonable. Lucky for me, a local dealer explained everything and set me up with the right model. So, get the upgraded model unless you want inland lakes only. And support your local businesses--they actually answer questions!!
How easy it s to take the screen with? I don't want to keep the device on my boat while I am not driving with it.
Super easy! Just unplug the power cord and transducer cable, then loosen the two knobs and slip it out of the bracket.
You need to turn on high-res bathymetry after inserting the discover card. Night and day difference.

Can it be used for offroad GPS?
No, I’d definitely use a GPS designed for off-roading instead of this fish finder
If anybody has side scan settings dialed in for this unit I'd like to have a conversation.
I also will never by Lowrance again. Horrible customer service all support from India. Do not buy a ghost trolling motor has been in shop 3 time for warranty work.

why? I was using hook reveal 9 for 2,5 year, transducer started to break (showing 0,8m depth from time to time but at the same time correct on sidescan) and I've got eagle 9 for free since hook reveal is currently out of stock here.
