    I can attest to this completely. I drive a 2000 Honda Civic Coupe and the only comment people have ever made is that they’re impressed I can fit a ladder in the trunk (it’s a little giant 22’) which actually creates a great opportunity for jokes and those warm fuzzy feelings people buy. I always get comments on my professionalism, knowledge, and customer service. I almost never get comments on my 2door civic.

    I started out roofing in a 2000 Lexus GS300.
    I bought a $350 Yakima roof and used Irwin wood clamps to hold the ladder on the roof rack.
    Once I sold my first roof within the first couple weeks I was hooked. Frugal me kept selling with the Lexus for a couple years then I finally got an F150.
    If you allow what you drive and how you look to totally determine your outcome then don’t get into roofing sales let alone sales in general.
    To further comment on your statement about dont finance and have a $600 payment. Very true. Invest in an index fund or a rental property.
    I have many friends in the roofing business and they are broke making $150k a year. Spending $150 on dinner 4 nights a week, buying multiple vehicles and watches and shoes etc.
    Sell, save, invest and keeeeep on selling.

      Love it man! Everyone has such a fun story about the vehicle they started selling in. It goes to show - that success comes from INSIDE, not what people see outside. Can you do a video on what sort of marketing to put on your vehicle? I’ve been told magnet signs make you look like a storm chaser. Invest in a full vehicle wrap? Glass wrap only? I worked my way up in this business starting in a beat up town and country and now drive a black late model pick up truck with no mods. I feel like its classier to drive it without the cheesy magnets on the door but I get it I might be missing out. I have still sold $1M this year so far without any marketing on my truck. But is it a mistake?

    • @TheRoofStrategist
      @TheRoofStrategist  Před 5 lety

      Hey Robert, The marketing on your vehicle is the least significant thing in this entire industry. All you need to worry about is keeping a clean, professional presence. I always ran with a plain vehicle OR very simple vinyl graphics with the company name and phone number on my doors and tailgate. I wouldn't put too much thought into it. I also would NOT invest the $3-5k into a vehicle wrap. Be realistic - are you going to earn business because someone saw your truck? No. It's simply there to make you look professional. That being said, as an owner growing to $8MM + and are running lots of trucks, then building a presence with consistent vehicles may be important - but that's a different story.

      GREAT question! Frankly, I don't believe so. I see more and more sales people coming into this industry driving sedans and SUVs. My best advice is to run what you have and rake in as much income as possible. Then, decide what kind of vehicle will suit your overall lifestyle and get that next :) The ONE exception is if you are in charge of managing production and you will be running material. In that case, a truck/van is a necessity.

    @PatriotPlus179 Před 4 lety +3

    I have been doing this since since May. I have my ladder and other equipment in a 2011 Fusion I bought in 2012, lol. I'm not having any success at all. I'm finding out that my company is on the higher end of the estimating spectrum. I had my first referral last week, and it should have been a sale. I've been bidding lower to initiate some sales, and I was underbid by $3,000! How does another company underbid by so much? This was on a smaller roof (24 sq. takeoff I think). I guess they're much smaller with little overhead. Myself, If I were getting multiple estimates, I would be more comfortable with a guy not showing up in a $70,000 truck with $20,000 in tires and suspension. Some of them make it clear they make a lot of money off of people. I still think the vehicle is irrelevant. I'm slowly figuring out that with most people, it comes to down the lowest bidder. It seems people just waste your time, or they're procrastinators. I have a friend with severe wind and hail damage on a very big house. It's been nearly three weeks since I inspected his roof and gave him an estimate, and he hasn't contacted his insurance company yet. I have two others that have a very good chance of being awarded a claim, and they too haven't contacted their insurance companies yet. It's a frustrating business. One more example. I have a customer that was a house lead. I arrive, he already has check form the insurance company. He just needs estimates. My estimate is lower than the insurance check. We're both Army vets, football fans, and we own German Shepherds, so I was obviously able to relate to them. It's been three weeks, and I even drove an hour back to his house to dry fit a severely damaged ridge end where the decking was exposed and rotting. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse.

    I would agree in about 98% of every scenario. The time I wouldnT is if your working an area that has been hit with several storm in last couple years and H.O. Are familiar with the gig. So if you pull up to a 5mill $ home in a 99’ yota
    Vs someone pulling up in a brand new limited the homeowner may believe (and not all them) that if something were to go wrong the guy in the 75-80k limited can “afford” to pay or take the loss. The guy in the toyo couldn’t and why would they trust a claim on a 5mill value home to a guy who is not in their sociA economic class! #Facts

      Also would want to add sometimes I will talk some of my reps into a new truck because they will be unccortabke and it will make most men sell harder!

      Agree with everything you said. Plus, how you FEEL in your vehicle does impact your confidence. The purpose of this video wasn't to be cheap - rather it's to "run whatchya brung" until you earn enough to get a newer track. And that it should never hold you back! Appreciate the comment.

    I made a killing last year working out of a 2012 Honda Civic with missing hubcaps. My ladder was from xtendandclimb.com
