    Like Bloodborne, the safest combat in Scarlet Nexus is aggressive. Unlike Bloodborne, using the dodge function is a lot more tedious as you can’t really cancel your attacks for well timed dodges. Once you get Gemma’s SAS it becomes a lot easier and safer to attack nonstop and really get a feel for Nexus’ combat system. I would say up to the underground subway boss fight the game hasn’t properly taught you how to play it.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety +2

      Definitely. Kasane has a similar cooldown in Arashi, that can be used reactively to escape danger. SAS Abilities are the core of defense and offense alike here, playing "raw" is something you never want to be doing unless you're running some kind of challenge-playthrough.

    • @kuroxell

      I took the "Attack" complement so enemy attacks don't stop mine. I really started loving it from that point.

    A fun combo system can sell me on a game pretty damn quick, but I am curious: is the combat comparable to any other action game you’ve played in the past, or is it more it’s own beast once the majority of the gameplay elements start to kick in?
    Regardless, thanks for the info as always Rogue. Big appreciation.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety +6

      It feels pretty unique, I think. The surface comparisons to DMC/Kingdom Hearts are inevitable, but the game leans heavily on its party-system, and getting properly good at it entails a lot of eyeing separate cooldowns for each team-mate.
      The Struggle Arms System has multiple layers to it that only get unlocked when you raise your Bond with the people in your platoon, and a big part of the midgame and lategame involves deciding which of those layers you want to expend each person's gauge on, since Active SAS and Combo Visions both use the same meter on a character.
      I will say that if you enjoy other action games, you have a high chance of liking this one too.
      I've heard that near the end a certain thing happens which feels like a "oh, so I can just equip everything at the same time" moment. It's nowhere near Dante-levels of ridiculous, but you do get the freedom to do a lot of different actions by that point.
      Mind also that this game is very much a JRPG, so expect to level, expect juicy, juicy anime tropes, and expect three or four truly epic setpieces and boss fights.

  • @lamp6909
    @lamp6909 Před rokem

    As somebody who loves hack and slash games, I really enjoyed how easy combos can be. However, the further you go, you get 9 SAS, and it’s really easy to get them lvl3 for combo visions; after that, since you get 2 SAS sets, and just spam CV’s and they’ll usually die really, really fucking quickly.
    Also, kyoka and yuito’s psychokinesis field=5k+ Damage with III plug-ins; Arashi/Luka+Shiden/Hanabi=safe, free, and good Damage; then you can just use Tsugumi, invis guy, and/or Gemma to personal preference to deal with special situations
    Td;lr, combat is fun, sometimes a little too easy

    Thanks for bringing this game to my attention! Almost 20 hours in and really enjoying it. Do you have any recommendation for more "western" rpgs in this vein? ie I wish the side quests were actual side quests, and there was a small amount of content beyond combat and cutscenes. I really love the world and characters and they make me want to experience them more fully.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 2 lety +2

      Hmm... Typically Western RPGs aren't usually made in this style, however, another game made by the same company, Tales of Arise, is more 'international-friendly' and feels more like a traditional RPG. It's still mostly combat and cutscenes but there's also cooking, camping, fishing, the world is a bit more wide and there are many more characters to talk to and things to look at over the course of the journey. In Tales of Arise there's also an emphasis in bonding with your party members, which is present to some extent in Scarlet Nexus, but Tales leans on it much harder and has so many more conversations.

    I have one question though, on a scale of 1 to DMC, how creative do you think someone could get with the combos?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety +1

      In the early to midgame, not terribly creative, but when you get access to every party member in the game you can pull off some crazy stuff, I think. Still nowhere near as free-form as DMC or even Kingdom Hearts, I think.
      I'm doing a lot of playing around and experimenting. It's never going to be DMC-tier, but there are some neat juggles and combos of spells/psi-powers possible when you get them, that make you feel pretty smart.

      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety

      I'll consider a video if I can pry myself from Scarlet Nexus. In the meantime, I main Robin because he's the hardest to play well with and has the lowest win-rate of any character. I find that challenge, as well as the rush of being _freaking Robin Hood_ really cool. I also really like Marianne before I maxed out all of her progression and visuals, and I still like her, but I play Robin more now because I still have stuff to unlock on him.

  • @PraneethChittimilla2002

    Hello!
    I need some advice on which monitor to buy.
    A 24" 1080p monitor or a 27" 1440p monitor?
    My "soon-to--be-built" pc is decent but may not be able to handle the newer games at 1440p but it will probably do a good job in running the games I plan on playing at 1440p (the older classics).
    I'll probably use tbe pc just for playing games and I need to know if the pretty looking open world games look good enough on a 1080p monitor. The comparison videos on youtube are weird and are definitely not to be relied on except for the benchmarks. So, I've been wondering if the difference is huge irl. I also binge a lot, so, I'm also curious if 1080p's the best option since most of the content is in 1080p but I'm not sure if the content will look just as good on a 1440p monitor and I'm better off choosing that over a 1080p one.
    I'm not sure if my english is intelligible. I'm not a native speaker. I hope you understand what I was trying to convey.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety

      Hiya. I don't have that much experience with this kind of thing but I do think given your situation a 1080p monitor would suit you just fine, especially if you sit pretty close to it. I use a 1080p screen and I've been really happy with it, but it doesn't take many pixels to please me, so I'd be the wrong person to ask. :P Get opinions from other, smarter people too, I think.

    This guide is very helpful but I just realized something about futuristic animes.
    Swords and throwing knives are cool and all but why don’t the main characters just use a gun? Would be way simpler and the amount of hitstun a gun would probably provide would basically just mean that you can unload an entire magazine, reload and then shoot again before the enemy recovers.
    This would totally not take away the fun part of using combos to defeat enemies efficiently and I totally cannot tolerate that games take realism away to create a fun experience for players.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 3 lety +2

      No, actually. There are narrative reasons for why many of the characters in this game use the weapons they do.
      In short; Others (the alien lifeforms) cannot be practically damaged by small-arms fire, they can only be majorly harmed by powers of the mind, channeled through weapons or used on their own. The various weapons that psi-users wield basically just 'fit' with their particular power. So for example, Tsugumi *DOES* use a gun, and that's because her power is Clairvoyance, the ability to Perceive and see the unseeable, like weak spots. Makes sense when you need to aim a lot, right? :D

      I don't think I was doing anything too special when I made this video, but if it only works from a launcher in your case, try briefly double-jumping first right before the PK throw. Let me know if you figure this out, since I'm curious about how to fix this too. For me it comes out pretty reliably if I slam an object into an enemy, then just mash attack until I get the dash-in.

    I’m just having trouble dodging bigger/boss enemy attacks and getting clean combos off. I’ve never played a game where you can’t interrupt your own attacks with a dodge, makes it so you have to be way more careful and hope you can read future attacks. Any ideas?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Před 2 lety +1

      As Kasane this is going to be way harder since she doesn't get Gemma until way later, but as Yuito you can literally just quickly SAS Gemma's Shielding onto yourself as a pseudo-dodge when you see an attack coming.
      Gemma's shielding completely absorbs all damage and hitstun that comes your way as long as you have enough of his SAS Gauge remaining to tank it, so to get the most out of him, this reactive toggle on his SAS state is the way to go. A popular game out nowadays is Genshin Impact and I like to compare Gemma's Shielding to Zhongli's shield from that. While it's up, you just don't care about incoming damage and can combo away, just be mindful of the remaining gauge.
      SAS states can be triggered at any time, even in the middle of your own attacks, so it's perfect for that.
      As Kasane you're going to have to use some more foresight, but since most of her melee attacks are also 'ranged,' that should help you space yourself out properly and play each of the hits in your combo calmly.
      Note also that slamming a PK Object into an enemy tends to shove them out of whatever they were about to do, which is why thrown objects are such a great way to both engage on, and disengage from an enemy.
