  • In the following video, I walk the audience through the procedure of removing the transfer case and transmission on a 2007 BMW X3 3.0SI. This process is nearly identical for all E83 models and is similar for the E90 3series and as well as some X5 models.

Nice job showing how it's done. Good lighting. I have same symptoms and need to replace on my '09 X3.

The GM transmission was used on various N52, N51 transmissions. I think it is called the GA 6L45 made in France for high end GM products in 2006+ Cadillacs. ZF wasn't able to provide enough transmissions to meet BMW requirements so BMW only used the ZF in high output applications. The GM transmission is actually my favorite because it's easier to maintain and doesn't have issues with the sleeve like the ZF, has a regular filter and pan and takes Dex4. It even shifts better than anything made by GM because BMW has their own in-house software. I've rarely seen them go bad on N52 when the fluid level is maintained and replaced every 100k

My GM trans is mated to M54 engine. I have cold start issues (Reverse, D slippage). A partial drain and refill (above fill plug engine running) with Dex6 and Lucas additive has restored normal shifts when warm (cold start issues remain in lower Fall winter temps). @@brarautorepairsCurious what might be causing cold start issues torque converter, valve body, solenoid, worn internal clutches, pump? I am considering a reman or good used GM trans.

    Hi
    I have a problem in my x3 e83 2009
    Transmission
Fault code 5658 gearbox position sensor malfunction.
I purchased one and after installing the same fault code.
Is there a method to test the sensor before installing.
And if I want to install a new valve body with sensor, does it need to be programmed or it can be installed directly?

Did you swap this out with another transmission if so did you have to program the egs / tcm to match the vin ?

With the bmw x5 e70 style 2007 to 2013 you need to reset to ceros the ISN numbers, but if you dont want problems remove your original internal valve body and install on the used transmission, i had a problem with isn two times with bmw x5 both not running because of that only in parking gears will not work

I wonder if the car will be faster if a new longer driveshaft is installed and if it will get better gas mileage.. I’m thinking about removing it .. I already took out the front prop shaft because the shaft coupling was destroyed so my 2007 3.0 x5 is rwd only ..
I wonder if the gearing will be the same if the transfer case is removed and a longer drive shaft is installed from the rear diff to the transmission..

Hi Enduro. The transmission was slipping during gear change. The revs would climb while the speed remained constant.

@@Rurik_JustCruzn thats exactly what my transmission is doing on my 07. Did you try changing oil/filter on it first? I am going to try that before replacing the transmission

If just removing transfer case, is it necessary to remove exhaust?

    • @Rurik_JustCruzn
      @Rurik_JustCruzn  Před 17 dny

It would be near impossible to access the mounting bolts and drive shaft bolts without taking the exhaust off.
