    10:10 Old Honda steering pumps love to hum on super cold starts. Ive noticed this with my 04 CR-V when it's below 10-15 degrees F.

    I've seen multiple cold start videos of Volts and they all clunk loudly when they spin the engine over for the first time.
    Weird request, but I would love to see a hybrid car-specific cold start compilation.

      Surely will try to gather some, although I've already used up many good hybrid cold start videos in older mixed compilations. Toyota Prius Hybrid holds 2nd place for the coldest cold start in my videos at -50*C. First one is another old Toyota (thought it was a JZX90, but it was probably a lesser model like a 90s Corolla...) at -52*C :D

    If you don't get oil pressure in 10 seconds then there is something seriously wrong, even if it is a bad oil pressure sending unit.

    The idiot at 6:00 wondering why he doesn't have pressure when he's said he's running 10w30 + Lucas stabilizer and It's -35 out. Of course it's not gonna have any oil pressure. The oil is thicker than molasses. People just have no common sense and he's just running it when it's clearly telling him it has no pressure.

    10w-30, you are way past your pour point. You have a brick of frozen honey in your oil pan. The sender is mid engine in the oil flow, it your light is on which it was you were not getting oil pressure, period. PAN HEATER is a MUST!!!!!! You just mega stressed your bearings. 0w-xx and you would be having border line issues.

    At 10:55 when the civic starts is that the power steering pump making that sound? I also hear the belt squeaking. Just curious because my cars makes a similar sound when I cold start it around -30 (canada)

  • @squangan
    @squangan Před 7 měsíci +1

    Cars will sometimes start in these temperatures but it’s hard on them and shortens the engine life. Where I lived with temps regularly down in the -40’s most people ‘plugged their vehicles in’ overnight as we used a combination of electric block heaters, electric battery heater, electric oil pan heater known as the Alaska Hot Patch, and some even had a similar electric heater on the transmission pan. With all those heaters you go out in the extreme cold mornings and the vehicle starts right up and the oil flows instantly, however the tires freeze flat on the bottom and have to thump, thump, thump down the road a ways before rounding out again!

      Lmfaoo shortens the engine life... what you still using conventional oil? Thats why there are 0w oils to begine with. It doesnt freeze. Our old nissan pathfinder had 250k km and it sat outside not plugged for years every winter untill my dad sold it because of Cvt and yes it didn't burn any oil.

    • @squangan
      @squangan Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@commentmancommentman1658 You obviously loitering somewhere where it doesn’t get extremely cold. Synthetic oil or not it flows like molasses after sitting overnight in -40 or colder no matter the weight. Turn your key if the engine isn’t plugged in and hear it slowly groan over and clatter until the molasses eventually gets to the heads.

    • @commentmancommentman1658
      @commentmancommentman1658 Před 6 měsíci

      @squangan lmfaoo it would still flow. It wont do any harm to the engine as also synthetic oils cling to the moving parts so there are still lubrication. Look at these videos they are over 180k km's and they still running ok. Modern engines and modern oil are very strong to very hot and very cold temps. I would worry about the battery more.

    • @squangan
      @squangan Před 6 měsíci

      @@commentmancommentman1658 Unlike CZcams armchair experts I don’t have to watch videos. I lived and experienced these conditions and know first hand what happens to engines regularly started up unaided in extreme cold. They don’t last long before they are rattling pieces of garbage that also leak fluids from their seals that are also ruined by the cold.

      I live in canada and we get super cold here. Cars here reach almost 200k-250k km. Explain that,
