Hey Zach. I took my tailgate off today to cold to work outside to fix the lock that won't work. Its a 2011 Silverado followed your video and worked like a charm. The inside workings was all rusted just greased and re-installed the lock works like a new one. Thank you again for taking the time to do the step by step on how to fix this. Your video is 3 years old I do hope you get this thank you. Ottawa Ontario Canada.
Looked at a few other videos before I found this one. I wanted to figure out what I was getting into before I started disassembling but didn't find much detail elsewhere. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Both of my pivot pins were stuck like glue. Looked like the previous owner sprayed grease everywhere and hoped for the best. The lock would not work and latch just barely. Took a long time free up the pivot pins. Once I realized that it was the pins themselves that have to move, all went well. After that I used fluid film to lube everything up and all is working great now! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing this Zach. I’m dealing with this problem now (won’t unlock, and have a cover on - so can’t disassemble). Seeing the layout and pivot pins helps a lot - I know where to focus.
I had been scouring CZcams trying to figure out why my lock wouldn't work. When I took it apart the lock turned but it wasn't obvious that the pivot pins needed to move. I saw rust on them and they looked like they were supposed to move but I didn't want to crank on it. When I saw this video it made everything clear. Thanks for saving me some bucks from having some jamoke at the Chevy dealer spend 10 minutes and sell me a new lock.
Off all my Chevy's over the years, I had many I never had trouble with tailgate. I lived 57 years in Illinois and now 8 years in south Florida. I've been to Minnesota many times, I will trade you, only if you didn't have neighbors...lol! You and your Dad on other channel, I sure like his Tent videos. Reminds me of Ely, Lake Vermilon, Snowbank lake. Beautiful part of the state!
Thanks for this Zach. I have this very same issue right now on my 2011 Silverado I am going to take it apart over the weekend and follow what you said to check. Very informative video. Ottawa Ontario Canada.
I just fixed mine by lifting the handle sprayed 1/8 can of pb blaster on the face waited 5 minutes and worked it with the key for 2 minutes and it freed.
Brilliant, I knew that lock “hoop” was supposed to move somehow. Seems like I just need to keep at it since mine still won’t budge after 20 minutes of WD-40 treatment on the bench. At least I’m sure I won’t break it now. Pretty sure.
You might have a problem when it gets below zero grease hardens up you might need to use clear dielectric Greece it won't freeze I know this from snowmobiling
Had someone steal a gas can and some tools from the back of my truck yesterday. Fixed the lock today. Thank you!

This video also applies to Chev Silverado in the same age range...I just cured my 2010 of the same problem..thanks for the video.
This did the trick Zach - thanks for making this vid and saving me a few bucks!
Thanks for the video, just had the same issue on my 2012 Sierra
Thanks Zach for the help. :)
Thanks, this video helped me out!
Thanks for the video, Zach. I've got a much better idea now how to fix the locking latch on my 2008 GMC Sierra 3500HD.

Mine is stuck closed wont unlock, and I have a cover on it should I pry off the plastic trim

Thank you.
I wonder if the grease or pb blaster would deteriorate the integrity of the plastic clips. just a thought
Thank You
Thanks Zach. I have a better idea of what to do now.

Great lighting. Wtf?
Just a little more grease should do it!
nice job dude.
😂 “an honest thief”...
Now look at the new Chevy, GMC , no handle, which should be good. I have the 2018 Chevy when door locks are locked so is tail gate
You cannot even start this way on a chevy truck
Lol, great effort but maybe film in the day time.
Kruell I will totally do that for u !
Wtf are you filming this at night???!
I work nights, it's when I'm up
