- Installing a Bolt Locking Tailgate Handle on a 2007 Chevy / Chevrolet Silverado. My original tailgate handle did not have a lock. This is a cheap and easy install to add security to your tailgate.

Excellent Video. manufacturer did not have good instructions, and calls to Strattec Tech Support could not verify that the locking tailgate handle is a direct, no modification replacement for the non-locking factory latch release handle assembly.
An EXCELLENT video, as it clearly shows the sequence of replacement, start to finish.
When buying one of these replacements from your professional locksmith, they will make sure you get the right keyway. GM makes variants, and this is not compatible to all. KEy type must be the "B106" style.
While at it, you can ALSO get a 5/8" Receiver lock/Pin set to match same key... and it is FAR stronger than the Fulton/Reese or CCP locking pins. Most on the market can be unlocked without any skill. BOLT also makes cable locks for securing odd shaped items into the truck bed, and a whole line of products for various pickup truck key compatibilities.

Can ypu use any key anytime? Or does it set the pins inside the lock for the first key?
You can only use the first key. No other keys will work once the pins set up for the first key
First gen avalanche come with factory locking tailgate.
Hell even 10th F-150 had locking tailgate
Why something so convenient will not come with newer trucks

Bolt GM Tailgate Handle
BOLT brand Tailgate Lock OEM to GM, and sold via Locksmiths. If bought on Amazon, may or may not be warranted, and may get substituted with a different key type than your vehicle. GM has 3 different 2 sided keys, and a new "lazercut" style. Your nearest locksmith is the best source, since he/she will be sure of getting the right version, and cutting a FRESH code-cut key to match the lock to, rather than a worn down key
