This is the video to watch, very helpful, short and to the point. I just fixed my truck that was having this problem. Works like new, thank you.
We had this on several of our work trucks and the locksmith we used says its in part due to the end of the key getting worn. So we keep a master key to cut new ones from. Great video!
Good day Yes the key should be cut, but now it is a old key, so cutting is the same not?
My locksmith made a minor adjustment using a manual key cutting machine to compensate for the key wear. He cut a blank first to make sure that it turned in the cylinder and then cut the chip key from the blank. I didn't need to replace the cylinder tumblers.
haha yep, keep the factory key in a safe place as a "master" to make copies from, always use copies to drive the vehicles.
I broke my key in half and I stuffed one half in there to be able to drive the truck and you sir just saved me a lot of time on trying to pick the piece out that is stuck in there lol
I do love the NNBS content. Now I will know what to do if mine does that. Great video Travis!
did this similar thing on my obs and it was the same way getting the key tumbler out of the column took couple tries for she let go, definitely nice to see gm is still the same even after so many years later.
Short videos are good Travis. Easier to squeeze in watching a short video as apposed to finding the time for long videos. Keep up the good work. I've been a fan for quite a while now.
Great work and another great video, I feel a cluster swap coming the one with 6 circles. 😊

Was looking forward to this video have same problem with my 07 Tahoe
Great job/video Travis. Mine isn’t broken but now i know how to address if it does.
twa finally building a nnbs when i get one, hope to see a lot of tutorials that way i can follow through 😂
On my dad's 09 you got to have it just pulled out slightly and it works good.
Thank you
Usually it's the key that goes out before the cylinder. I always recommend a new key from dealer, cheapest rhing to first.
Im curious - how did you get the driver info center to work? or was it already equipped, want to know about retrofit ability for a WT model.
Great video on ignition issue.
But I have a question of subject though. I have a stock 4.3 V6 should I or not install an h pipe or x pipe dual exhaust ?? Just wanted to somewhat upgrade my exhaust system. What are your thoughts ??
Not a huge fan of sound of the v6 with aftermarket exhaust but that is just my opinion
Good video for replacing the cylinder. But ---- if the key truly won't turn, you can't replace the lock cylinder this way.
I'm trying to replace the whole ignition assembly can't get locking washer off the steering column how do I do that
How do you find the numbers on original lock tumblers when you cant remove them?
the three row it looked like the first two on the right side were potentially put upside down. but maybe you caught it or i missed something. just before 12 minutes in the video if that helps.
How did you get the ket to turn. Mine key wont turn and is broke in half.
i put in a new ignition lock cylinder with keys for a 1998 chevy silverado 1500 key will go forward truck will turn over but wont start, also returning key back wont lock in place
Can a bad ignition lock cylinder cause a key relearn process not to work?
@@TWAMotorsports it turns like it supposed to but gets jammed up sometimes. Just makes me wonder if it’s possible something isn’t reading it right. The security light also doesn’t come on like it should either
I have a 2001 chevy silverado and the key goes in and you can turn it but doesn't crank all the way over. Now I already replaced the lock cylinder a few weeks earlier and been working but had hard time taking key out after turning off every time we used it then tried to start wouldn't any ideas on what could be the problem now. The cylinder has warranty so got another one but don't want this to happen again. Thank you for the help
But your key turns....video says what to do if key wont turn...i cant turn to run
For anyone else in my same spot - there's a small hole at about 7 or 8 o'clock around the ignition cylinder that you can shove something in to get it release and allow the key to turn
I did this exact same thing. But only I paid a locksmith to do it. Replace the original then bought one through the dealer. Have the locksmith hook me up this is about 2 or 3 years ago. And it's already shot hard time turning. I will buy a aftermarket doorman brand. And just have two keys want to unlock my door and one to start my truck. I won't buy no more AC Delco original ones.
at 4:28 your key was in the off position and then the video fades to black, then when then video fades back in at 4:29, your key is in the on position so the pin is easy to push down and the ignition can slide out... I thought this video was showing what to do if the key key won't turn... how did you get the key to turn? it looks like you just edited your other video in..
Stupid click bait. Key wont turn my ass! Screw you guys for wasting my time when i need a fix now
Its great but seems like ur turning the key to get it out of the ingition if your key doesnt turn u shouldnt be able to get the cylinder out
You're supposed to have the key turn to the on position then you hit that little pin hole on the Tumblr and then the Tumblr will come out
What if you can't get it to the on position? My key got ripped out of my truck while it was running and now I can't get it to turn to that position. Might of damaged the inside of the cylinder is what I'm thinking since I can still open my doors with the key.
Question. What if they key DOESN'T turn. 99% of the videos are "well, we can get it turn after 20 minutes." our is broke broke. Any ideas?
@@TWAMotorsports Just got it. Had to disconnect the little black cable under it. Seems like something to do with an interlock? I was able to turn it using jiggle method after that and remove it. Thank God. Lol
Can’t see what you are doing! Looks like this would have been a good video. Dang it now I have to go search for a different video. 😢
This video was supposed to be how to get it out if the key “won’t turn” waste of my time
Just keep wiggling 😅
That doesn't always work. Thanks for wasting my time. Very misleading
