SHOP DAY: Fixing a BUSTED Brake line and Exhaust Leak

- We spend all day at the shop working on the GMC replacing the rear brake line and exhaust manifold gaskets. I also go into my office and talk a little about my collection, we make a trip to the trash dump, and swing by a job were working on.

That Aerokroil is great stuff - we use it in a gulf coast refinery all the time. I recommend the Nickle/copper brake lines, they are very reasonable and will not rust!!
I definitely need to do that, I replace these every few years

Just had to do the same thing to my Cadillac,guy told me he had everything and was super easy fix!!Well after a trip to autozone 4 times all new brake lines and union fittings,plus exact same flare tool you bought cause his was missing pieces and it took literally 25 hrs straight instead of running all new lines he had to use the lines and union fittings not compression fittings,let’s say it was a job and frustrating so I know how you feel!!!
Never fun doing brake lines.
Rick, them manifolds are probably warped. I have had the same issue. Replaced the manifolds and haven’t had an issue

I was wondering if the 8.1 uses oil? I own a 2001 dark green 2500hd Chevy 8.1, I bought it in St.Louis. The guy failed to mention it would need a quart or two of oil every 1000-1500 miles. It's a beast it'll pass everything but a gas station. I've had to replace a couple brake lines. As a soon-to-be retired Auto tech instructor that is currently teaching brakes, I teach my students to NEVER ever fix metal brake lines with compression fittings, double flare fittings only,😊.I live in Columbia Mo. We got the same ice storm.
Luckily, it doesn't use any oil, but it does love gas 😁🤘

Take the manifolds off over to a machine shop and have them planned down flush so that seat flush
Man it was hard telling how aggressive you were with that file, and how long you’ve had that truck but if you’ve had anywhere close to 10 sets of manifold gaskets on that chances are you need a new set of manifolds and probably have the gasket surface of the head re decked at a machine shop if you’ve been filling on it. Shouldn’t have to touch the head surface hardly at all
It’s super easy to get those surfaces fucked up with anything other than maybe sand paper or a flap disk. If they’re not flat they’ll leak
