    Band BIO:
Sabaton was formed in December 1999. After the first songs were recorded in Peter Tägtgren's studio, The Abyss, Sabaton was contacted by a couple of record labels. The band sang with the Italian label Underground Symphony, which then released, internationally, the promo CD Fist for Fight.
    FUN FACTS about band:
-Sabaton discovered a Russian CZcams channel doing Russian-language covers of their songs, and helped them do one of "The Attack of the Dead Men". And then brought him on-stage to sing his cover in Moscow.
-The band has said they've tried to write a song about Pearl Harbor many times but can't manage to put together one that sounds right. Similarly, some topics such as the Harlem Hellfighters ended up being dropped from The Great War due to songwriting difficulty.
-The Sabaton History video for "Talvisota" got a copyright strike from Finland's National Audiovisual Institute (KAVI). It turned out it was collateral damage from a copyright dispute between the agency and the Reuters archive from which Sabaton History had licensed some footage, and the strike was withdrawn a couple of weeks later (after a nasty Internet Counterattack from angry fans).

As a Swede I love Sabaton, especially their Swedish songs hit harder for me. This song is from their album Carolus Rex which is about Sweden's "The great power of era" between about 1611-1718. This particular song is about the "30 year war" from a Swedish soldier's perspective. The whole Carolus Rex album has the "same" song's in both Swedish and English version's, but the lyrics differ from the respective versions. And yeah no shame to feel emotional during this one, I feel the same when listening to it.

The change in the lyrics between the English and Swedish versions is honestly what makes the deluxe version of Carolus Rex their best album, imo. There's just something special about it.
Instead if it being a case of "well let's translate it as closely as we can" between the English and the Swedish tracks, they use the opportunity to add something magical to the storytelling. It lets them approach the same songs from a different direction and lets both versions supplement one another, and it's something I've never run into with any other band out there. Love these guys.

This is a strong strong reaction!!! The language is Swedish. and the band, Sabaton. is from the city of Falun in Sweden. One of Sabatons most legendary liveshows is actually from 2012 at the Woodstock festival (in Poland) - The last band and the last show of the festival with over 600 000 in the crowd! The whole show was broadcasted LIVE in Polish TV ...and is absolutely amazing!!!...When Sabaton start singing their songs about Polish "Uprising" and "40:1" - The temperature goes sky high!!!! According to me though, their very best number is .... their first song "Ghost Division" ...THAT ONE sets the pace for the whole concert!!!!

40:1 from the same concert, they are playing in Poland, the song is about the last stand of the Polish army during the German invasion of September 1939. The amount of pride in the crowd loving this song is amazing to see. Ghost Division is a great live song and there's a reason they always open their live performances with that song, but 40:1 is a nice contrast to that song I feel, since Ghost Division is a about a panzer division crucial for the amount of success the Nazi war machine had in the invasion of other countries, like Poland, although it didn't participate in that invasion.

  • @argantyr5154
    @argantyr5154 Před 3 lety +37

They are Swedish, and they are big in Sweden, but HUGE in Poland (if you react to 40:1 or Uprising live from Woodstock you'll see what I mean).
The Song is about the 30 year War in Europe (1618-1648) The Thirty Years' War was a conflict primarily fought in Central Europe from 1618 to 1648. Estimates of total military and civilian deaths range from 4.5 to 8 million, mostly from disease or starvation. In some areas of Germany, it has been suggested that up to 60% of the population died.
Starting as a battle among the Catholic and Protestant states that formed the Holy Roman Empire. However, as the Thirty Years’ War evolved, it became less about religion and more about which group would ultimately govern Europe. In the end, the conflict changed the geopolitical face of Europe and the role of religion and nation-states in society.
At some point more or less, every major European power (at the Time) joined the War on one side or the Other. But just try and imagine 30 years of War, specially at the time where people didn't get as old at we do today.
And you guys are right, albums and studio music are good, but its live you'll see who is great, the chemistry, crowd interaction, the lack of "studio magic" etc. I usually compare it go going to a sports event, I mean its good to watch football in front of your TV, but being at Stadium that is on another level.

The amazing thing with Sabaton is that they sing about war and battle but often from the perspective of underdogs, the few survivors, the one that sacrificed his/her life.. the person behind the history lessons.. that makes everyone loving their music. No matter if it is about your iwn countey or not. This is a son about a swedish soldier in the 30 years war.. but it is loved everywhere as so many can identify the feelings if that soldier no matter nationality. Thats why for example in Woodstock Poland the crowd goes wild when sabaton sings 40:1 about 1000 polish soldier that stood up against 40000 german soldiers for three days.. and the next song is about the german panzer division.. their old enemies.. and the crowd loves it and sings along just as much. So why not look at 40:1 live at Woodstock with a crowd of around 500 000 people :)

So glad you found the subtitles, many people overlook that there is sub for this Sabaton's non English videos.
And Sabaton is a super chill group and allows people to freely do reactions on their music, because the stories they tell, in many cases need to be heard.
Life time of war and En lifstid I krig tell two different stories.
Lifetime of War tells the story of the 30 years war through the eyes of the European powers of the time.
And you know of course what En lifstid I krig is about.
All their music, apart from a few, are about history, that is their soul focus.

Officials music videos have amazing production value. From Sabaton filming from inside a Tank for Primo Victoria, the Battle of the Bulge reenactors for Screaming Eagles, on a boat at sea for Bismarck, in the Sahara Desert for Seven Pillars of Wisdom, or Peter Stormare dressed as an SS soldier in Poland for Uprising.
Their lyric videos are equally great because they include bits of historical context for the stories while also being visually interesting to watch, especially The Final Solution which is just heartwrenching.
Sabaton's live shows are just as good, particularly the Great Tour because it's recorded from stage looking out into the crowd, and you see the band genuinely enjoying interacting with the crowd and each other during their performance.
Then you have their growing animated music videos with Yarnhub that combine storytelling and music and the building blocks Future of Warfare which is just a blast to watch.
There's no wrong answer for "which type of video should I watch for Sabaton's music?" Because they're all awesome.

And you're right, by the way, Sabaton should be viewed live, especially considering the entertainment value of their stage show, props and so on. It was in a small club (about 250 capacity) with the 1st row of fans about 12 inches away from the stage and band. The ladies played about 20 songs (2 hour concert) and pretty much blew the roof off the entie time. Even with the language barrier the interaction with the crowd was pure comedic gold. If you want to get a feel I recommend checking out the fan-cam courtesy of my friend Vladimir Chupin here on YT. The wall of sound sometimes shakes the mobile cam, but you will get an excellent idea what it felt like being there on that glorious summer night. They are a Folk Metal band from Spain. Very popular! They did switch singers along some time, don't know if they are back to the OG. They made an 'updated' version of Finistera with the new singer. Their most popular video is Mago de Oz - Fiesta Pagana Diabulus in Opera if you want to check out a live. All their songs are bomb though. The epic thing is this song was performed in their home country of Sweden which has mandatory conscription (Every able modied adult, men since 1901, has to serve at least a year in a branch of the military)
This song is in the audience's native language, and it's highly likely most have been or are being called to service right at that moment. This song is just as about the modern Swede soldier as it is a soldier of the Thirty Years War.

They were singing in Swedish, not Dutch... but it's probably have been said already, but if so I'll just say it again. This song is about the 30 years war, about a young boy, most likely a farmer's son... because at the time Sweden had way more farms (not seldom small farms) than they had big cities and towns, who had to leave his family to get drafted and fight in the war... and he's wondering if anyone is going to miss him and if he falls in battle, who will remember him.
This song always brings a tear to my eye. And this performance by Sabaton is hands down one of the best I've seen in a Very very long time...
And to answer your question, what was the last concert I went to?
Well, I'm a Swede (No, not the turnip 😄😄) living in Romania, the last gig I went to was a band called Bucovina, (folk Metal with black metal influences) they were playing at a place called Arenele Romane. If you're interested I'll give you some tips on songs you could react to... But, they do sing in Romanian, just so you know... but that gig was f**king amazing. 🤘🤘👏👏👍👍🇸🇪🇷🇴🇸🇪🇷🇴🍺🍺
