This is a true story. It happened during the first world War. The allies & Germans had part of a day of peace, played soccer, sang Christmas carols, shared food and drinks.
Their song Bismark is great too about the great naval battles in ww2.
Ending is sung by Floor Jansen of Nightwish - you should check them out.

This was absolutely Great! You picked probably the best two videos to react to. The Christmas Truce really did happen. Sabaton planned for years to do this video. On Christmas Eve of 1914, the Germans started singing Silent Night and the English and French responded by singing it in their language. Then, the soldiers started shouting out Merry Christmas to the other side. It was at that point, I believe was the German soldiers started to get out of the trenches with a white flag, and then the British and French did the same and they met in no-mans land. They exchanged gifts and food and, yes, they had a football game too. The officers were furious that the men had done this but what could they do. However, the officers said they had to be back at their posts by the end of Christmas day or face charges.
En Livstid I Krig is about the 30 years war in the 1600s. Sweden played a big part in this war. An 18-year-old man could literally spend his entire life fighting in this war. Every person in that audience had an ancestor who fought in that war so this song is very close to them that's why they could sing the lyrics to this song, to them it is the alternative Swedish national anthem. Thank you so much for doing this.

Thank you for your empathic reaction! You really know what it is to have family on deployment. Not knowing if they will return alive. It tears your heart out! Sabaton have met a lot of veterans of WWII and they always take time to talk to them. One story remained with me. Once they invited a veteran in his 90s on stage and introduced him to the audience. When they were going to start playing they said to him it would be better if he would find a quite place as the music etc would be loud. The veteran answered that he had survived a world war and certainly would survive the concert and so he stayed and truly enjoyed it. Amazing isn't it? Did you know that a sabaton is an iron shoe worn by medieval Knights as part of their armor?
You said you like the outro music of Christmas Truce. This part was made by the Finnish composer Antti Martikainen who makes beautiful epic soundtracks. The soprano you heard is Floor Jansen, Dutch, and leadsinger of the Finnish symfonic metal band Nightwish. She is married to Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of Sabaton. She has an amazing voice, she can sing anything. If you like to react to them I sugguest "Ghost Love Score" Live at Wacken 2013, which is a sort of introduction of her singing capability. Enjoy! Everything Sabaton sings about is an historical true event. Here the soldiers took upon themselves to have a Truce and play soccer exchange gifts and bury the dead in No Man's land. Tha generals were furious and made sure it never happened again. The common soldiers got to see each other as fellow human beings while the leaders say on their a$$es safely behind the lines. It makes it harder to kill if you have more in common with your enemy than you do with your leaders. A lifetime of war is about the war in Europe that last from 1618 to 1648 and destroyed most of the continent. It lasted so long father's and later their sons went off to fight and never came home. The fear and agony of anyone we hi ever has been in war is the theme here. Great reactions as always, Sabaton is a band that should teach history in every school. They bring the experienced of those caught in war to life for you to experience.

I've learned more about war history from Sabaton than I ever learned in skool (yes I did that on purpose) Songs like Night Witches, Bismark, No Bullets Fly taught me so much. I love the way Sabaton don't take sides in their songs, they simply pass on the story to you and allow you to decide upon the heroics and morality of it all. Christmas Truce is an incredible tribute to an amazing event that really happened. To think that men who moments before had been killing each other decided to come together for one moment of peace and treat each other as real humans instead of targets. This didn't happen on just one day but over several all along the front lines. And you're right about the Generals, they threatened firing squads for anyone that tried it again and had to move those troops who took part to other fronts as they refused to fight the enemy soldiers they had just made friends with. Sometimes I think the wars that are started should only be fought by those politicians and generals that started them and leave the rest of us out of it. I'm sure there would be fewer wars if those that want the fight are the same ones that have to fight it.

Hey Cheesy! First, I would like to thank you for your heartfelt reaction to these videos. The fact that these songs got to you says a lot about what kind of man you are. I'm a 72 year old veteran of the Vietnam War. These days, most people don't want to think about the military and/or veterans and what they've been through. I have tremendous respect for Sabaton. They and Five Finger Death Punch are about the only two bands who tell our stories on a regular basis. A wise man once said that there are no unwounded veterans of war. Some wounds can be seen, but many more cannot be seen. We all have our scars! Someone else said that once you've seen war, you see if forever. Also, very true! Again, thanks for reacting to these videos, and stay safe.

Great reaction. Sabaton has the unique ability to reach down into your soul, making you feel proud, ashamed, and humble all at the same time. This was perfectly shown by "En Livstig i Krig" (pretty much pronounced like it is spelled) which is the story of a single soldier during the Thirty Years War, from his enlistment as a youth through the trials and battles until his death. Sabaton music video are epic, with great production and attention to detail. For example, they hired an actual movie production crew for "Christmas Truce" resulting in a movie quality video. Their live shows are awesome, lots of crowd interaction and energy. They always bring it big, and you can tell they are having an absolute ball performing. I was fortunate enough to see them in October in Nashville and it was the best concert I have ever been to. Thank you for sharing your reaction and keep rocking Sabaton.

Nice to see you returning to Sweden's pride 😀 All their songs are about war, often the almost forgotten "small" stories about heroic or fantastic deeds, as well as major battles. They also have their own channel, Sabaton History, that accompanies their songs, telling the story behind the songs. If they used this in history class more people would know the history.
This particular song is about the 30-year war, that was fought in Europe in the late 1600s, where a large portion of Europe's population died from war, as well as disease and poverty in its wake. In Swedish it tells the story of one young man going to war, fearing he'll never return.
Their songs don't take sides but tell a story about certain events. They got a lot of flack in the media here in Sweden in their early years, being mistaken for a white power group and things like that which they fought hard against. They simply tell stories about war so that we may not have to repeat the events... It's a great band.

  • @LianteakaLia
    @LianteakaLia Před rokem +2

I've been listening to the last song, "En livstid i krig", since it came out in 2012 and man, that song still gives me goosebumps. No matter how many times i hear it, it's such a striking song with lyrics that cuts so deep I don't think you can listen to it without feeling the full hit of the emotions behind it.
The song is about the 30 years war in Europe in the 1600's from the perspective of a drafted Swedish soldier. They also did a version of the song in English, and it's not a translation but a completely different story. The English version is told from the perspective of the common people in continental Europe as war ravages their land.
The album the song is from tells the story of the Swedish empire in 1600-1700, and comes in two versions. One in Swedish and one in English. While most of the songs are the same in both languages, some of them differ between the two, and the difference is in perspective, like in the song you just heard. In Swedish, the song is from a Swedish perspective, and in English, it's from the perspective of the country the Swedes where fighting at the time, or have a more general perspective. Someting I have never seen before, or after, in an album.
This alone is only a part of what makes Sabaton as a band so freaking special. They don't take sides, instead they teach us about history as it happened from an historical standpoint. Some songs are written from certain perspectives and will reflect that in the lyrics and sometimes, they have several songs depicting the same event but written from different point of views. In a way, they are history teachers through metal.
In your first video, you asked what the genre was and the thing is, there is no easy way to answer that. They take influences from classic 80's rock and metal, but what they really make is History Metal. A unique sub-genre of it's own, and that's what makes them such an incredible band in my oppinion.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Sabaton. There is over 20 years of amazing music for you to discover for the first time. And if you decide to go down the rabbit hole I can only wish you a joyful journey because as a fan who's been listening to them for almost as long as they've been around, I know I've had an amazing time so far.
P.S. Put on subtitles for every Sabatong song, even if it's in English, because the lyrics along with the music is what make this band truly great. Trust me, you don't want to miss a word.

En Livstid I Krig is about the 30 Years War, which started in Prague in modern day Czechia, in 1618 and ended in Prague in 1648. The war would involve most of the major European Powers of the day and would ultimately claim the lives of 8,000,000 people. By ratio related to the European population, that is 3 times deadlier than WWI. In parts of northern Germany, as many as 60% of the population was wiped out from war, starvation, and disease. In Sweden, nobles would send soldiers to the war by buying them a horse and essentially consripting them and sending them to the war. To get an idea of the war, imagine you are from Northern Germany, and at 18, you are conscripted to serve. You had just married and had your first child on its way. You go off to war. By the time the war ends, you could return to find that your parents, your wife, and your sister had died and the 29 year old soldier returning with you is in fact, the son you never met. That gives you the best perspective of the sheer scale of the conflict.

En livstid i krig tells about the Thirty Years War that indeed lasted that long and devastated the Europe, killing large portion of the population.
The audience here was Swedish, and the war took a heavy toll on Sweden.
The soldiers were not volunteers but drafted, and many women lost first their husbands and then their sons to the same war.
And the audience knows it could have been them.

Utterly true story, and its meant to show you the futility of war. We're all humans......and its all BS.... And the Swedish version is wonderful of course, but the English is pretty bloody good too. ;)

First of all that were 2 very emotional songs… and very hard as you said… you are sooo right ‼️ Great job… but! As I had a look to your other reaction vids I recognized you didn’t have a video from Nightwish ‼️ Why? By the way, the drummer of Sabaton is married with the lead singer of Nightwish - Floor Jansen. So give them a trial with Ghost Love Score - you will like it…. czcams.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/video.html

You should listen o A lifetime of war by yourself, the reason why i recommended the Swedish version is becuse the lyrics isn't the same, but maybe you feel the song even more in English because it's your native language, both versions are great.
