Even glover knew it wasn’t a tap that’s why he elbowed him lol
The amount of subtle disrespect shown to Jiri in the MMA media is wild to me. Jiri put on the performance of a lifetime & the fact that anyone let alone an MMA expert would actually believe Jiri was tapping when in zero danger from any angle is mind blowing. Jiri is an amazing martial artist & lives life in a special & unique way & instead of being embraced these ppl just attach words like weird, strange & awkward & focus on any negative they can find instead of showing love for an amazing performance. What a weird world we live in. Let’s Go Jiri
Very well said 🙏
True, but he probably shouldn't do a tapping motion just in case. He seems a lot more normal and in-touch with reality than the people who think him weird.
Tapping is for one single reason. Without that reason, don't fucking do it. It's not the referees job to figure out your reasons for doing it. They are expected to respond in one way only to a tap. Also, what people seem to be forgetting is that by tapping another fighter, you are telliung that fighter that you quit. That could potentially alter the trajectory of the fight. It's only a weird world, if you don't understand what you're seeing.
@@backabeyond yea like imagine not understanding what a a tap looks like VS whatever that was. If a person is in zero danger & does a tapping motion w there hand, No referee on the planet will stop the fight. It’s situational & really doesn’t matter what a person does w their hands unless they are in a submission & in trouble. Neat story though
Not the point. Point is a tap is a tap. Doesn't matter, there have been fights where people tap I'm weird situations
Jiri explained in an interview for Czech media that he was communicating with the referee all the time and that referee was aware that this was little provocation towards Glover. Jiri often talks to his opponents provocatively as he can expect to attract after that and perform a counterattack. Jiri also mentioned that he was provoking Glover just before Glover opened his face by the elbow.
Still that is confusing, if he really gets caught the referee maybe doesn't stop right away and he can end with a broken arm.
its still a bad habit that he hopefully ends
Ye right.. tapping someone's back as a provocation. If you're tapping, we know what it means. Stop covering bullshits.
@@ianramos5923 Really? You think he was actually tapping even though he was the one that finished the fight? You know a lot about spewing bullshit obviously.
@@ianramos5923 he wasn't even in a hold lmfao why would he be actually tapping? surely there's a brain SOMEWHERE between your ears, try using it
Joe “you cant do that” Rogan. Well you obviously can. Goddard is the one to decide. And he’ve heard Jiri talking sht to Glover while tapping so he knew what tf was going on.
Joe is 100% right, there are rules in this game, and tapping means I give up, I want to stop! Is it the first time Jiri fights in MMA that he doesn't know that ?! He could tell him "good job" without tapping!
In a sanctioned fist fight, rules exist for a reason and need to be followed. I get what you're saying, but he needs to know better.
@@rim3178 Nope, the set rules are defined by the ref. The ref is the one who decides what is and isn't a tap, and whether it's a reason to call the fight. Goddard was in there and heard Jiri talking to Glover. He understood what Jiri was doing. Not all taps are equal. If they were, Chael tapping Silva on the ears hoping to discombobulate him would've lost him the fight in the second round rather than the fifth already.
@@rim3178 there's also rules saying no eye pokes, fence grabs and humping fighters while they're down but...
@@rim3178 nah if the ref knows what they're looking at they'll know it's not a tap. He wasn't in pain, he wasn't unconscious, he wasn't compromised, he was calm and composed.
Seems like joes really going at jiri and Goddard here. If both fighters and the ref had full contextual awareness of the situation & it didn’t disrupt the fight, I don’t see the problem. I’d get what Joe’s saying more if jiri would’ve tried the “tapping” when he was in that deep arm triangle. Plus, I feel like glover would’ve already called out the ufc by now if he really felt it was unfair.
honestly joe is annoying asf in this clip
it doesnt matter the tapping on an opponents body is a form of submission which by the ufc rules is supposed to end the fight same as if he is yelling stop stop stop i quit as a verbal tap. tbh if it were to go to a comission instead of being left as fairplay ruled by ref marc goddard, i wouldnt be surprised at all if comission oveturned the fight as a submission victory for glover, however i would never think glover would b the 1 to do such a thing, always had class in defeat and came back to be champion.
nah, he is not, he just doesn't like the tapping because it is dangerous, because Glover could've mistaken in for a tap, same as referee and the fight could've ended right there. Luckily, Goddard is experienced and proffesional dude who knows his work.
@@xxslears2xx literally the only reason you'd hold this ridiculous opinion is if you for some reason have an axe to grind against Jiri. It's almost certainly racial- heal your racism, bro.
@@mistersparkles1842 thats not even opinionated, thats just what the rules and procedures are in MMA i could not give a flying shit what race whoever holds a championship is, the only thing i care about is if they cheated to get there, and thats not the case is it. cry some more though mister sparkles the clown
“You cant do that” as we can see u can lmao
He's not wrong you can't but luckily jiri was talking with the ref so he knew jiri wasn't tapping
This was the craziest fight with so much back and forth! Epic fight!
I love Jiri,he is what the UFC needs right now.there are so many unexciting fighters coming up so...
I agree, but keeping that head out there for the world to punch, isn't going to do much for his staying power.
One of the best fights I've ever seen🙌
John anik voice *
Yes it is. Great fight!
This one dethroned Robbie vs Rory 2 for me. Best fight ever in my opinion, was it technical? No but this fight shows what it’s all about, back and forth, resiliency, toughness, heart and pure violence.
Oh shut up, nobody thought that was a tap, there was zero pressure
It's not something that should even have to be questioned, because you don't fucking tap unless you're in trouble.
Good job Joe isn't a referee then
This just shows that Joe could never be a ref
Lol Rogan needs to chill Glover heard him say that lolol
if ur takeaway from that fight was that jiri tapped. you have some serious confirmation bias...
Rogan don't like Jiří,je almost never taking about him ... He will talk instead how great and how special is Nate Diaz for example :d
I disagree, he just talks about american fighters more, because they are closer to home for him. I think he is giving him plenty of praise by saying how unusual, entertaining and good he is. If Jiří works on his english a bit more I can definitely see him being the first Czech guest on the podcast talking with Joe about the Book of Seven Rings and Bushido life style :)
@@Mieqo yeah i know ,you 're right but its' not about...he just don't like him ....
@@Mieqo well it would take jiri years before this can happen but it would be cool
@@primosek1 yeah :D his czenglish is still quite prevalent. That would be a painful episode, not gonna lie.
Jiri that you? 🤣
Randy couture did the exact same tap on Tito Ortiz and no one didn’t really say anything about that one?
That was a spank
@@SK-ix8jb so spankings not worth getting upset about but good sportsmanship during a fight should be?
I'm happy that refs are kind to Jiri and they gave him bit freedom , considering tapping with Glover or that upkick from Reyes
i can see how other fighters would be stopped by refs if they done that , but i guess they want to be sure he's out or he tapped for real
when he has nice winning streak and he can withstand a lot
Referees are not nice , they just understand their job and they see the game right in the cage . Unlike the wannabe smart asses of the internet
Goddard thought it was funny and understood what he was doing because he was in there and also heard Jiri talking to Glover. He said he himself has zero issues with it, but that Jiri should be careful as other refs might misunderstand. Jiri has also already addressed it, saying he understands the criticism and will fool around some other way.
Well Goddard is no nonsense and pays as much attention as possible.
He was just "lucky" with upkick from Reyes, because he fell in good position and started working immediately.
@@steamacc4872 You can't call "...started working immediately." as lucky. That's Jiří man. Very few fighters recover as quickly as Jiří. Check out his Risin fights. He is like a fucking Wolverine.
Probably the best day at the office for Marc Goddard.
Every other referee would have stopped it right there.
Go Jiri !!
The problem isn't whether Goddard understood it, it's that Glover could have mistaken it, or even acted naive and stopped because of that "tap". Imagine if AlJo was in his position, he would use that to his advantage in no time. It's just unnecessarily risky.
Is that why glover through a big ass elbow immediately after, you weren’t in the ring bozo you don’t know what was said and what was going on. Glover knew 100% that wasn’t no tap.
Maybe it was a Morse code and maybe if you're dumb you should watch synchronised swimming. Maybe...
_"If Glover thought that was a tap..."_
...and if Glover was also a referee in that fight
I think he meant more along the lines of that giving you an unfair competitive advantage. A-la jiri does the tap taunt thing and glover lets go of the hold even a little bit, it’s not an even contest anymore if the ref doesn’t warn or anything. But then again, if glover hasn’t complained who am I to
Many respectful fighters stop fighting when they feel a tap, they don't all wait to be pulled off by the ref so the point still stands
That’s how good of a referee Mark Goddard is he knew what was happening.
0:07 That was great! No ridiculous animosity just pure sport and competition.
Even if Glover didn't hear Jiri talking shit and thought he was legitimately tapping out, you don't stop fighting until the referee stops you. Everyone knows that.
Not necessarily. If I got someone in a DEEP guillotine choke, and I feel them tap, I’m probably gonna let go if I really feel it and it’s a deep choke. But some fighters are in the heat of the moment. Look at Amanda lemos vs waterson. Lemos had her in a guillotine and she felt her tap, so she let go, and the referee couldn’t even see the tap. So it depends.
@@markschwartzman18 It doesn't depend when you could lose tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Lemos is lucky that Waterson has some integrity, although maybe she felt confident she could still win even if the fight continued.
First of all, Jiri wasn't caught in anything or even being threatened by anything. Glover was, at that moment, just laying on him. Not even throwing strikes.
Second, even if you have someone in a deep choke and they're about to go to sleep, can't you just loosen the choke slightly instead of letting go entirely?
@@TheRedHaze3 That situation happened last year with Fabricio Werdum vs Renan Problema. Werdum had Renan in a triangle and it looked like Renan tapped, seconds later Werdum got knocked out still in the triangle position. Werdum said in later intereviews that he loosened the triangle a bit because of the supposed tap. Renan denied tapping. Most brazilian fans believe he did indeed tap and is dishonest about it.

@@TheRedHaze3 Jiri could've tapped for a number of reasons. The appearence isn't the all important factor. Dude could tap because his appendix ruptured. Gonna ignore it, because he's not in a chokehold? Also, even slightly loosening a choke could be enough to turn the tide. I don't know why people are arguing. Just don't fucking tap. Break glass only in cases of emergency is what the prevailing sentiment should be.
@@backabeyond Ah yes, his appendix ruptured from all that... nothing.
Yes, if I were in a fight that decided whether or not I continued being the UFC Lightheavyweight champion, I would ignore someone slapping me on the side a few times while I'm in full mount doing nothing, and they're trash talking me.
I would ignore someone tapping while I had them in a legit chokehold and they were about to go to sleep.
*The fight isn't fucking over until the referee stops you.*
You only respect the tap in sparring.
What a great fight.
I hope we see a rematch.
Bruh, jiri has 1 submission loss and he went unconscious on that one
Best fight I`ve seen .
Finally someone did the captions right I'm subscribing
Jiri didn’t give up or tap for all the other shit glover did to him on the ground, and people really think he was gonna tap out to a mount.
I still do not understand how Glover didn't appeal this fight.
You see a tap, I see 4 consecutive vicious open palm strikes to the rib/shoulder of Glover.
There was no submission at this moment. And glover and referee understood. He was no on danger at all. But it's dangerous to do that. Now we know glover is honnest. Because he didn't say anything. Big respect. But don't retry this jiri !!!
Dude received the wrong signal
Joe rogan is actually brain dead making fun of Jiris "Antenna" doing a silly impression of him thinking hes serious not realising Jiri was making a wifi joke. 1:11
Jiri definitely "tapped" multiple times. It wasn’t his intention to give up, but he clearly tapped. Lucky for him he had a good ref.
@@nickybobby8753 Yeah, by tapping.
@@8thaccount535no, tapping in this context is conceding defeat, he’s patting Glover’s body. Not tapping because he didn’t give up obviously.
@@mattj4362 "Patting" Glover's body, aka tapping Glover's body.
As long as the referee and Glover knew that it wasn't a quitting tap it's okay but Jiri has to definitely stop doing that and look for a different way of provoking his opponents, either way, it wa a great fight
Cool so it was very clear to the ref what was happening. Thank you, Joe. God this guy sucks.
Yeah I noticed that too. In this instance it was fine because Goddard knew what was going on and texeira didn’t give up position. But if glover thought it was a tap and got off of him I think the fight would have to end. Jiri has to be careful going forward for sure, what a stupid way to lose a fight
He`s unpredictable but he got caught many times with his jumping knee.
It is a risky thing to do and I hope in future, any praise he wishes to convey to his opponent is purely verbal. You can not call it fake quitting though, Glover knew Jiri wasn't quitting and most importantly so did Mark Goddard. Just be thankful for an amazing fight and a worthy champion whom I believe will defend his belt many times.
He is our strange Czech mortal kombat character
Jiri moves like he wouldn't be good. But hes really good. 🌠👊🏻👑
Joe "You can't do that" Rogan
Nevermind, 10 minutes 36 seconds into the episode.
I love Jiri, and the performance from both men in this fight was absolutely masterful.
With that being said c'mon bro, you can't be tapping on a motherfucker like that in the middle of a UFC fight. His heart was in a good place and it's blatantly obvious that he was not tapping out, but bullshit calls definitely do occasionally happen.
It would be heartbreaking to see Jiri lose an absolute barn burner because he was trying to compliment his opponent.
Alex perriera is a elite kickboxer prozchaka will get knocked out
Jiri the real Paul Phoenix!
Rogan needs to stop gassing people up XD Jiri had his moments and ultimately won the fight. But at best for him it was 2-2 going into the 5th round. Jiri got stunned, Glover jumped on the neck, and that was the wrong decision. Rogan making it seem like Jiri is this alien, spaceman creature that no one can figure out lmao And the "I don't think he's gonna tap.... unless he gets caught in something" Well no shit Joe XD
The guy is a beast but If you watch Jiri vs King Moe you can see just how bad Jiri is, he's always leaning in with his chin, you can't fkn do that against top fighters they will knock you out just like Moe did and Teixeira also caught him... Jiri lives by the sword and he's gonna die by it unless he learns not to lead with his chin!
@@yash_ar It's basically true, but remember that first fight with Mo was part of a pyramid, 3rd fight in 2 days. He had been already broken from fight with Volkov and he lost his focus with Mo.
@@HistoryWolfCZ
True but when he lean in with his chin like that, I don't care how much focus he has, it's only a matter of time before a world class fighter times his chin up... And believe me if I noticed it then you can be sure anyone he fights from now on to defend that belt knows it and is gonna train for it.
As a boxing fan who dips into MMA my immediate thought was he was tapping out, but even as a layman to the sport I also immediately thought, well why would he? So an experienced ref is going to pick up what is going on. He shouldn't do it though
amazing
Jiri has a style ND he likes to confuse people.
He was vary into samurai as a kid
That fight was sloppy as hell and it’s like both their fight IQ went right out the window, especially Jiri. So many tactical mistakes an poor decision. Honestly I found the fight to be very frustrating to watch.
jiri is frustrating to watch on a good day. Dude is playing with fire, keeping that head shoved forward like he's advertising a punching bag.
Jiri just trying to be like the GOAT Uncle Chael.
Jiri better quit that. It will ruin his night one of these times. Too clear on the rules, a tap is a tap. Pat him on the back after the fight.
If it’s that big of a deal run it back
Jiri should have been striking the body hard with his open hands instead of patting Glover
I grew up in America with czech family. Head pats/ light taps are a more common form of encouragement/ praise/ or even incitement in that culture than in USA. He is not a BJJ practitioner. I understand what it may look like to a BJJ practitioner but he is not used to that and Goddard clearly recognized it.
@@MrClaysta I did not say that he tapped....I only said he should have been giving hard open hand strikes to the body or should have been punching the body instead of lightly patting
