Rebekah's Zoo I’ll make a video on their diet very soon! I have one on a homemade staple mix though. As for sand baths, children’s play sand is safe, you don’t want dust or anything with added nutrients.
Also, for sand you just wanna make sure it says sand and not dust bath, and that it has no added dyes or calcium in it. The sand I use is reptisand in the desert white color, but I know other people use chinchilla sand or children's play sand (which if not heat treated, you have to bake in the oven to sanitize.) A lot of things that apply to hamsters also apply to gerbils (I've owned hamsters before) so if you can't find specific info for gerbils you can look up the rules for hamsters too and it will probably be the same! Sorry to ramble, I know you didn't ask for all this but I just don't wanna leave you hanging!

Gerbil ppl from other countries, do yall have any other ideas? Also, is cat sand safe? Here is the standart for gerbils, but gerbils only started to be kept as pets here in 2004, and only started do be popular a VERY FEW years ago, so our gerbil care instructions haven't had time to be built in a solid and trustable way...

Hey one of my gerbils got really sick and we kind of had to force feed him applesauce. Thankfully he has made a nearly complete recovery but I spilled lots of applesauce all over him. After three days it is dry, still really uncomfortable, and not gone at all. Does anyone have any advice on how to clean him sand baths don’t work and I know you aren’t supposed to get them that wet so I don’t know what to do)?
Ik it’s like 2 years later but I hope you can correct me if I’m wrong, I usually use compost and sand so my gerbils can dig I also let them chew up some cardboard rolls for bedding, I give them a few treats and toys! x

20 gallons is the bare minimum for two gerbils, so it should be fine. You don't have to get a tank topper, but you should have a cardboard divider to separate the tunneling area, and the wheel, water, and sand bath area.

Exchange bedding from time to time, take some of each of their bedding and put it in the other’s so they get used to each other’s scent. You can also move the gerbils to the other side a few times a day so they get used to each other’s scent and territory the same way. Make sure they can see each other but not have physical contact. If they sleep next to the divider and near each other it’s a good sign. The more time you do this the better. Then you can introduce them to each other, but if any heavy chasing or fighting happens, separate again and start from the beginning. There are other videos and tips online, I don’t think it’s completely fair of me to answer since I haven’t had the experience myself, but I’m here for any more questions. Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply. Would a raised platform in a 30 gallon tank be okay? Instead of a tank topper. The raised platform can fit all of the needed items and the gerbils would also be able to burrow under it. Haha, sorry for asking allot of questions😅

I thought platforms would be enough but honestly they are determined to cover everything in bedding 😅 I used a cardboard divider or you could use a safe divider with a way to go in and out. I’ll be making another cage tour soon as a lot has changed. Usually a cage topper would be better though
Definitely observe their behavior with the divided areas, sometimes they can declan with divided space so if they are acting territorial you might have to remove the divider

Try brushing him with a toothbrush and a bit of sand in the toothbrush, if it’s really bad you may need to see a vet

Is it bad that my gerbils go into the sand bath and instead of using it they just kick all of the sand out?
This is why I gave up on using a container for their sand and made the whole floor sand 😂
