Who's going to sing your name when you're about to leave this earth? This is the message of Helvegen written by Einar Selvik. We love this song, and we wanted to make our own interpretation. This is a homage to a song and a band whom has inspired us tremendously over the years.
Again, like every time, we always work with very talented and creative people.
Shoutout to Thomas Bottolfsen for filming and editing. Check out more of his work at www.thomasbottolfsen.com/ and Endre Lohne on light design. đ

Understood nothing, felt everything...
Who will sing me
Into the death-sleep sling me
When I walk the road to Hel
And the tracks I tread
Are cold, so cold
I sought the songs
I sent the songs
When the deepest well
Offered drops so mighty
Of Valfatherâs pledge
I know it all, Odin
Where you hid your eye
Early or in fading day
Still the raven knows if I fall
When you stand by the gate of Hel
And when you must tear loose
Follow you I shall
Across the bridge of GjoÌll
With my song
You will be free from the bonds that bind you
You are free from the bonds that bound you
This band, for a none native speaker, is pure emotion. I love it.

Well put.
When i first time heard Helvegen i instantly fell in love with it. Then i found version with Aurora and i was looking for covers, sounding similiar, sadly, there was none, 2 days ago i typed Helvegen cover... And here i am, speechless, lying at bed, in dark room at night, listening to this masterpiece.
We were doing the same thing. So we made one together. x
We're with you, brother. Right here with you lol
It's the best way to listen to this music. In the darkness alone in your thoughts letting the music flow through your very soul.
Amen SeverPL! This cover is beautiful! Ive been hearing it on Repeat for the last hour đ Greetings from Denmark đ©đ°
I had no idea who Wardruna is until my buddy invited me to go see them last year. The first song I listened to was Helvegen with Aurora and am very into both artists. This is such a beautiful cover.
I'm a Scottish guy that's been lurking on this song for years. Tonight I'm drunk and feel the need for a comment. Even the beginning of this song makes the hairs on my arm stand up. I don't understand the language but I feel the power of the message. I haven't dared looked up the translation because I enjoy it misunderstood. The tone alone carries the song.
I know the words and I'm not going to spoil them for you cause you already got it. You got it brother, already.
Cheers from Canada.
You should try Heilung 'Anoana', has the same energy.

Yeah, man, I'm sorry for saying this, but this is better than the original version or the one with Aurora.
I totally agree with you. every time I listen to it I have goosebumps, and that ending ?? absolutely breathtaking...
No seriously
now im waiting for Wardruna and Kalandra to meet somwhere in between both realizations and sing it together :o
I almost skipped listening to this, I mean how could anyone else measure up to the vocals of Einar, Aurora and EivĂžr? I was wrong, Katrine not only sings the words perfectly, what gets me I think is the haunting softness in her voice, clear, mixed with power. This was beautiful art work by the Kalandra. Congrats.
I love them all. They all bring something beautifully different to the song and to how I feel it.
How beautiful... This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard.... I'm from old Norse...

Grown ass, english speaking man, sitting here in tears.
this is quite the powerful performance. grown ass woman here, appreicating your brutal honesty. I still cry at this, and i've heard it at least a hundred times.
Some of us are feeling strange connection and passion for being part of something great. We are not happy in this modern materialistic world where we only fight to survive from paycheck to paycheck. And why ? This is all madness and we will never be truly happy and free in this world. We are missing the old ways when we were connected to nature. We should get true friends and people who share same dream together to build new world. There we would be truly free to create our own destiny as equals.
We should stop wasting our life we wont be here forever!
Fun fact: You can still connect to nature in the modern age. I think people over-romanticize historical eras based almost entirely on movies and books. But you have *no idea* what life was like back then. Would you really trade the safety, comfort, convenience, knowledge, and opportunity of the modern world for a time of war, plague, rape, ignorance, & starvation? Would you trade living in a climate-controlled home with 10 grocery stores nearby for being genuinely afraid of starving and freezing to death every winter? Would you trade all the knowledge you have of the world for not knowing anything outside of your village, and never being exposed to even a single book? Would you trade living to 90 for most likely dying in your thirties?
It's fun to fantasize about the "old ways," but it's another to be so delusional that you honestly think that a time of almost no options and no knowledge would be better than a time of infinite options and infinite knowledge.
totally m with yu on this
You hit it on the head Simo.
@@scottk1525 i dont think its about going back to the caves but getting the best of both worlds instead. Modern life has brought great confort but theres a lot of detachtment in our lives. So in this regard we can learn many things about ancient cultures. Doesnt mean we should copy everything as it was done before but rather take back what is missing and needed right now.
@@scottk1525 I think you have the wrong idea.. If you feel and think this way you are enslaved the whole meaning behind this is the human race is enslaved by the wage.. We never needed money and our ancestors lived through bater and opportunity.. When civilization exterminated the lives of my ancestors and brought a new era of slavery..we have to pay for food and water when they used to grow it and receive the water from the streams.. I don't think you understand. This apparent new age of knowledge has only brought suffering to nations.. The dominance of superpowers and the destruction of our planet. I still think you don't see this.. And the most painful thing is that I get laughed at for worshipping the aseir and the old gods are forgotten as myths in history books. I don't think you would never understand.. You stand by the annihilation of humanity and our ways . You stand by the collapse of everything we knew and replaced it with synthetic slavery and the cancer of this world. It's disgusting to live in this age with no purpose at all.. When my ancestors where free to write their own destiny and to survive with purpose.. Take a step back and realise what hell we are in before you start saying we romanticise it.. We crave it we train for it and ragnarok hasn't even happened yet so there is time left to embrace your modern ideals

I first heard Helvegen two weeks before my uncle passed away. I drowned my sorrows in this song for days before I even knew what the words meant. When I found out what they meant you can assume how fast my body engulfed in chills. I was singing my uncle into his death sleep. And I had no idea. Its almost been a year, but today I woke up with him heavy on my heart and mind. I just wanted to tell you thank you for this, for this is the first time Iâm hearing this aw striking, beyond beautiful cover to Wardunas Helvegen.
I did the same thing with my father
I lost my son one year ago and discovered this song last week. I'm listening to it and crying all my sorrow since then. I'm feeling calmer than ever since my lost. When he died he was 37 years old and since he was a child we called him a Viking. We are Italians descendents and live in Brazil. I first found this song performed on the side of a mountain in Norway by Wardruna, Aurora and Oslo. It gave us the funeral we couldn't give him cause we were so choked. Thanks for all involved!!!

The only song that makes me cry for no reason, no matter who interprets it, it's always the same sensation

I'm right there with you. I heard this song for the first time (original version) on my way home from making my mom's funeral arrangements in 2022, and although I was holding together through everything, as soon as I heard this, I was falling to pieces racing 120 down the interstate, no sound but the engine screaming almost in sync with the song. Every single time, no matter whose version, makes every single hair stand on end and makes my heart race like my engine that afternoon

This is the most heartbreaking version of this song I've heard. The version with Aurora brings out more of an ethereal, tribal, experience that goes back to the days of Viking conquests of over 1,000 years ago when Odin was an all powerful god to the Norsemen, whereas this version feels more modern, from 500 years ago and reflects more the sadness of loss of loved ones.

I came here without any significant expectations, as many others having heard the perfection of Wardruna + Aurora and just being curious about covers. I left here after listening through the cover three times in a row, and being really curious about your band and other music. I rarely am amazed by something, but this song vibrate with me in a very deep way i cannot describe with words.
Hat down. đ©
Her voice is incredible. She should be world-famous. Also the band is great.
Give it time.
Man I love European culture.
Slavs and vikings is bests
Slavs and vikings are bests
I agree completely.. That culture.. History dang man wish it ran in my blood.
@@bboyg1 what runs in your blood doesn't matter. Anyone can appreciate our culture and partake in it, just as we do with others!
@@carlh9120 your words are appreciated and I am moved by them. When I visit Viking homelands, and explore all that I can, I'll drink to your kind words.
Any version of this song brings tears to my eyes, great cover
I can't stop listening to this track I really love it.
As soon as she started singing: chills ran down me spine. Absolutely stunning voice! Love the organ music too! Epic!!
Me pasa igual
Katrine Stenbekk has such a beautiful voice and far much better then Aurora.
Wardruna's version: Preparing for battle
Kalandra's cover: Mourning the dead
Wardruna's version also sounds as mourning dead
@@josea.3458 The songs purpose is about mourning the the dead. 'Til helvegen gÄr' - 'kalde fÞtter' tells you that deaths is upon us and we are moving into Hel.
@@larsvbundli1740 hel, is helheim correct?
@@ghostofsparta1045 Yes I think so
@@ghostofsparta1045 yup
They took a masterpiece and made it better. The piece at the end is beyond amazing!
I've never heard a voice like hers. It's so beautiful. The whole song is absolutely amazing. Well done, friends. đ€đŒđ€đŒđ
She has a beautiful voice and the language is perfect. Calms my soul
I did not think this song could possibly be made any more beautiful than the original. I was wrong, oh so very wrong. My insides are weeping and smiling at the same time. Impressive and inspiring!
" Don't fear death. If it comes embrace it as if you are lying down next to a beautiful woman." __ Ragnar Lothbrok
Death smiles to us all, all we can do is smile back (Marcus Aurelius)
Not afraid-eminem
Wow......deep, amazing thought!
@bob harley Culture of the times
tears on my eyes , thank you
I've been listening to this constantly over the last few days. This song evokes such a spiritual connection within me like none other...I feel a longing to have the music be a part of myself and somehow be immersed deeper within it, but sorrow knowing the impossibility of that. If there ever were a song to overcome the fear of death, this would be it. The Wardruna original has been a favorite of mine as well as the performance with Aurora but this one I can't get out of my mind.
I was very skeptical when I saw the video title, but I have to say I'm very impressed! This is a fantastic cover, easily as good as the original!
This is shockingly great, covers usually aren't but this is actually truly great.
Just found out im Norse. Explains my Viking temper and my death wish and depression
@@katehardwick4283 Vikings were well tempered.. was not depressive!!. and saw it as the highest honor to die in battle , and go to valhal... not a death wish...

This is a cover?
@@katehardwick4283 wtf :D
@@diogoeskate3075 cover of Wardruna. Recommend giving them a listen, it's a gorgeous song. This one definitely had my heart though
Muslim arabian girl in love with vikings songs and stories and culture â€â€â€ bless you all
Salaam Aleikum, sister
This band is awesome and I love this women's voice and talent, passion, etc. Brings a whole different feeling and dynamic to an old song. â€ïž it.
You know a song is good when it fits its landscape. You're one of the reasons I fell in love with Norway
That glance to her right as she says "Deyja frĂŠndr" (kinsmen die)... Absolutely pure and beautiful just as the song and her voice.
I need to hear this version on a regular basis! I love the fact that Katrine Stenbekk sings the final section rather than just reciting it. This is a simply stunning performance by the entire band. I also recommend "With You and Ensom from this amazing band.
This song doesn't end, it leaves you longing to hear it again.
